All seven of us agree the best part of our trip this year was a side trip to Blue Spring State Park to see the Manatees. It was an easy hour trip just north of Sanford and the Manatees are only in the warm spring during the winter months, so plan accordingly and get there early. On the weekends the park's small parking lot fills quickly. We were hoping to see one or two Manatees, but we counted more than 40!
While there we also enjoyed a wildlife tour on St John River Cruises. At $22 per adult we though the price was a bit steep, but it was worth every penny. This is not the typical cruise down the river with narration, but an exploration of local wildlife with an interesting guide who didn't hesitate to stop the boat, or back up, or nose you into the weeds to get the best views. If you appreciate nature and wildlife the tour is awesome! you won't need binoculars, but do bring your cameras.
One last note: after touring we stopped at the local seafood house, Pier something, where the food and service were excellent.

Thanks for posting this!
We've been to Blue Spring and enjoyed the manatees but haven't tried the river cruise. My wife and I had just discussed, yesterday, going back for another visit and now will add the river cruise to our trip as your description and the info at the website sound really good!
