Have you put a DVC vacation on hold?

With the stock market tanking, I was wondering if I was the only one who cancelled a reservation for a DVC stay to save money and because of the economy's effect on my finances.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? :sad2:

Yep sounds very familar. This is the first time our family group has not gone in many, many years. :sad1:

Depending on airfare, we have two vacations planned in 2009 to visit our DD who is hoping to be in the WDW college program. If her plans change, we have talked about only doing one trip, but I'm thinking if the airfare is good, we'll do both.

We're in the "we bought so we will take vacations" camp. My DH will only go to WDW or Hawaii. And right now, it cost less to fly to Orlando.

We are NOT cancelling our Jan trip (50 days and counting WOO HOO!), and I still need to get my kids passes and pay for the DP, but we are going! Flights are bought and paid for, DH has most days left on his 10 non expire pass, and my AP is good through April.

I also have three nights booked in mid March, but if I can't get a good airfare rate, I may wind up renting some points and banking the rest.

We do plan to make ressies for Christmas next year!!! So, we'll look at that end of January at the 11th month mark. I think if gas prices stay low, we'll drive to save money on flights for all of us, but that's about as much financial curving I plan to do as far as DVC goes! Hopefully, things with the economy will get better so no one has to start cancelling the good things in life!

We are going in January since so much of the trip is already paid for. After that, we'll just wait and see.

We're going in January on the Inaugural Weekend/MLK days. DH works by the White House and his building is closed both days, and DD is out of school for MLK and possibly Inauguration Day so given the craziness expected in DC and the fact that we haven't been to WDW since May 2006 (for a variety of reasons), we're going.

I was able to snag FF tix out of BWI, we rented 100 points to cover the AP, so all we need to cover is food -- which we would have to do anyway. We're budgeting our Christmas presents to account for shopping at the World, and we're planning to give DD a Disney Cash Card as part of her Christmas present.

We are trying to be smart while also taking care of ourselves. The world is a crazy place at a moment so we won't be as extravagant as we have in the past but we'll be practicing moderation.:grouphug:

We're making more trips by using our points wisely and finding ways to cut costs. APs are already paid for, so is room, gas hopefully stays down for a bit longer, and we'll have to eat in more. We're cutting spending on luxuries at home, but we're still going on vacation for a minimal price.

We're still going, just not doing as much as we usually do. It will be good to get out of the cold and just relax, even if we don't go to the parks every day.

We're booked to go in Dec, March, August (Disneyland) and tomorrow I"m calling to make a reservation for next October. The only trip I'm hesitating on is a 1 week Disney cruise for Dec 09. I"m more than 50% sure we will still go, but we'll see.

My next trip.

Free airfare. (Frequent flyer miles)
Free rental car (Another perk from my business travel)
DVC Accomdations....

I do have to renew the AP, but.....

No change for us for 2009. We have already paid for everything but food for the Jan and May trips. I get one vacation a year as a perk in my job so that will be used for the Sep Costa Rica trip.

DH and I have discussed that starting in 2010, we may change how we vacation and go 2 weeks straight to WDW instead of two separate weeks in order to reduce the need for double cross-country airfare each year. But we will still go.

Nope. We are ready to go on trip #3 for this year and have 2 planned and booked already for next year. :thumbsup2

We cut down because of DD starting HS (Expense of that was over twice what we were paying for MiddleSchool) but I will not give up on our Main trip . I really need the escape Disney gives me from my Streesful job. The Family time is harder to come by and DVC helps with that as well.

What we did do is Extend our One trip instead of doing a Main and a Smaller one like other years. I just booked our Summer trip with 3 nights at VWL followed by 7 Nights at BCV . I have a free flight coming so I will let DD invite a freind for this one as well.

Nope. We have our DVC, free air with more frequent flyer than we can use, we rarely buy souvenirs, and we LOVE to eat in the room as we like to cook and actually have more time for it on vacation.

That leaves car rental and park passes that have to be purchased. One of the trips is to HHI which won't have passes involved. Our lives are so busy that our idea of a vacation is to hang out with each other and maybe a good book, so passes are not mandatory.

That being said, one trip is for F&W. If things get really tight we would skip that trip (obviously money would be spent grazing the World).

WE DID.... DH had a job eliminated 2 weeks after taking it.... begged previous employer to take him back... they did... lost $10K in the process... we cancelled our Dec. trip..... BUT.... selling BWV points to buy BLT points and due to your guys posting about your "developer points" which were not offered to me initially the first of Oct., I called back and they honored the dev. points and I got 160 free points.... we have premium AP so me and 3 kids are coming for 4 nights Dec. 19-22... free room, free passes.. just gas and food... I was the bummed one about cancelling our 7 night trip, but I am excited DH is letting the kids and me come for 4 nights spur of the moment... have great appreciation for jobs and the fact that I bought DVC 14 years ago.... for this very reason! Now that gas is $1.81 her in Chattanooga, very feasible to come... see you guys down there!:santa:

We are trying to cut back, but we still plan on going. Instead of taking a 5 or 6 day trip once a year, we will take a 12 day trip this year in June. And do something non Disney the following year :scared1: That way we can save on gas or airfare. And if we buy a 10 day ticket it's not much more than buying a 7 day ticket. We normally purchase the DDP, but to save money we might cook in our room. I'm not sure about coking in our room, is it really ok to coook on vacation :confused3 Oh well as long as we get to go on vacation :cool1: :cool1:

I too have cut back at home, well where I am when not in the World...
Don't go out for lunch, instead bring something from home. Can now stretch a tank of gas over 2 weeks, my drive to work is 2 miles each way. Just little things but they add up over time.:thumbsup2

Nope - still doing Winter Break in Feb. We are cutting back on Christmas gifts this year as an example to our DS who always got whatever he wanted.

DVC Reps told me that when people cancel, they cancel right before they come. So while I wanted BCV, our home resort, but could only get BWV which is also fine, hopefully someone will cancel to allow us to move.

But they also said DVC members are packing the parks & resorts, expecially since we have already paid for the yearly membership. So ity may still be crowded.

Nope:

Leaving on Friday (11/28) for 7 nights at SSR with extended family.
April we are cruising on DCL.

In the process of taking advantage of the cruise bounceback offer--looking to cruise in Feb. and then do WDW and cruise in August.

We haven't cancelled either nor do we plan to alter an future plans. And based on my waitlists, no one else is cancelling either :)
