Have you had or do you have braces on your teeth? I am about to hit 15 months of metalmouth (and yes, I am in my late 20's) so I just wanted to see what other DIS-ers had them!

Nope. I did haev one front tooth that came in a little off, but the dentist had me sit with a popsicle stick "pushing" it forward into place, and it worked.

No, although I need them desperately due to a major crossbite. Not going there though! My dentist says I could fund the ortho's yacht. Ha!

Yup, had them for 4 years in high school and I'll need them again after I have my jaw surgery.

Wow! I did this too, and when I tell people, they look at me like I am crazy! The sad thing is, when I get my braces off, my teeth won't look much different. I am correcting my bite. I have really bad TMJ, and this was my last option. After this, I will do veneers to get nicer teeth. The bonding I have needs replacing anyway.

Yes, I had them for an overbite. It takes a VERY long time to correct an overbite.

I got them on at 10, and off at late 16. My orthodontist left the same bands on my teeth for six years, when all my friends were getting theirs off. The end result was six root canals and a tooth self destructing the first day the bands were off. I ate an ice cream sandwich that got awful crunchy.

My jaw is very small, and I had twelve teeth yanked for all the adult teeth to fit, so the braces were a neccessity. My poor boys appear to have the same mouth.

don't have them yet, and I don't think I'm getting them.

I thank God everyday that I was blessed with nice teeth and I never had to have braces. Unfortunatly, my DD won't be able to say the same thing.

I've had mine on for 4 years now - I'm almost 27. Worth every dime! My top ones came off last spring but the bottoms have a few more months.

Yes, as an adult. Took a few years and jaw surgery, but completely worth it!

Yep! I am an adult and currently been wearing braces for two and a half years, with no end in sight, but my smile is so much better! Before braces, I had 8 perfectly healthy teeth removed before I could even start the process to correct my horrible-looking vampire teeth. I had many complications along the way (nerve damage, root reabsorption, bone loss) but it was worth all the pain and $$$$$ spent. This may sound dramatic, but when I had crooked teeth, I was never treated well. I always felt like a second-class citizen no matter how "confident" I tried to be, and I was always the "ugly duckling" in my family. And try going on professional job interviews nowadays with a mouthful of crooked teeth and a poor smile!

But recently (with my new improved braced smile :teeth: ), I got a good job and I can clearly see I am treated much better than before. Everything in my life is better now that I got rid of my crooked teeth. :sunny:

Sadly, all this taught me is that appearances are ALL that matter. If you look good, people treat you better and better things happen to you. That's the way the world works!

Yes, I had braces and it was for about a year. I wish I had never gotten them since I didn't really need braces.

Never did, although I really need them, but now I'm paying for my kids braces, so don't think I'll ever get mine! :sunny:

I had them for a year as a teenager. But, the ortho really messed up, and I wound up getting them back on as an adult. I had them on for 2 1/2 years, and just got them off this past February. What a difference!!! :teeth:

ETA: I had them in 9th grade the first time. I was 30 when I had them put on the second time, and almost 33 when I got them off.
