My teen daughter and husband both were violently ill after eating at Chef de France at Epcot. We thankfully live here so we were able to head home and be sick there, but they have had food poisoning before and they said it was silmilar. After reading a few posts on the boards, I have seen so many who had a bug or food poisoning recently in Disney World. Curious who else got sick in Disney in the past couple of weeks?

We were there a few weeks ago and neither of us got food poisoning. We have never gotten food poisoning at WDW.

Check one here.

DH was in for IV he got so dehydrated from it. Impossible to isolate where he picked it up...we ate the day before at the fast food center at GF, San angel inn, and tutta italian restaurant.

He thinks it was from GF...but again, impossible to know.

I got violently sick about two summers ago and slept on the bathroom floor for a night at WDW...I was very close to going to the hospital because I wasn't sure how much more I could take before getting too dehydrated. This was after I ate at Earl of Sandwich (still a favorite of mine!) and ice cream from Ghirardelli. My husband was with me the entire vacation and didn't get sick, so either I had food poisoning or he was just lucky. I was down for an entire day and most of the next day from pure exhaustion.

Have they been to the doctor yet? If not, there is no real way to be sure if it was a bug or food related. There are some stomach bugs going around.

Chances are more likely it's gastroenteritis (N /V and diarrhea) and not food poisoning.
Here, back home where I"m from is it running rampant from kids to elders and everyone in-between.
Being in an enviroment such as malls, schools and theme parks, it doesn't take much to spread the pain.

My sister and her friends got food poisoning at All-Star Movies, but that was a loooong time ago. The front desk found out about it, and sent several stuffed animals to their room.

And that's the story of how "Food Poisoning Eeyore" came to live with our family.

On our last 4 trips to WDW, my poor DH has gotten sick on 3 of them :guilty: ... The first time was after we ate at Tutto Italia for dinner ... The second time was after we ate at Cape May Cafe for breakfast ... And the third time was after we ate at Crystal Palace for dinner and the Tomorrowland Terrace Fireworks Dessert Party (same night) ... Don't know 100% whether it was food poisoning or a stomach bug on any or all of the 3x's ... I just know I felt really bad for him :sad1: ... However, I am happy to report that on our last trip to WDW, which was a few weeks ago, he didn't get sick at all :) - but he was very careful with everything he ate (as was I because it totally sucks to get sick on vacation that's for sure) ... :santa:

My son and his wife are there now on their honeymoon. They ate at Disney's Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show this past Thursday night and pizza for lunch on Friday. They both were so sick Friday night(lasted about 12 hours). Not sure where the illness came from....

I have gotten sick on 3 of our last 4 Disney trips. I'm guessing they were stomach bugs and not the food poisoning, but can't be sure of that either way. We usually spend a day a half in the hotel/around the resort because of my weak stomach...

:guilty:

It's a toss up if you got food poisoning at Disney or had a virus that you picked up there. I can tell you, several years ago I was vacationing there and my parents drove up that day from Stuart Fl. to meet us. We visited the MK that day and had dinner at Cinderella table in the castle. My mother ordered a shrimp dish and when it came to the table she tasted one bite and wouldn't eat eat(it tasted funny to her) my Dad and I thought she was crazy and ate a lot if it. They left to go back to Stuart that night and I went back to my hotel(the GF). The next day after I was violently ill, I found out my Dad was also violently ill. No one else had had the Shrimp except my Dad and me, Coincidence?? I think not. I never made a big deal of it at the time, but will never eat in the Castle again. Every one else traveling with me was perfectly healthy for the entire trip.

It is REALLY hard to tell (without tests) if GI symptoms are food borne or not. Food borne illness is just one of the many things that can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps.

In the event that it IS food borne illness, it can be pretty tough to tell where it came from. There are lots of different pathogens that contribute to food borne illness, and some of them can take 12 hours for symptoms to present themselves, and others (hepatitis A, for example) can take several weeks.

People tend to mistake food borne illness. It certainly happens, but without appropriate testing, it is pretty impossible to tell what is causing the yucky symptoms.

To avoid getting sick from food the best thing that we, as consumers can do is wash our hands really well, and keep food at proper temperatures. Don't put your hamburger in a to go box and eat stuff it in your stroller, and eat it later. Cold food needs to stay cold, and hot food needs to stay hot (or cool propery and be kept cold)

My husband and I got food poisoning once with a group of 12 or more people. We ate at San Angel inn. After we came out we were feeling really bad, 30 minutes later I was int he bushes at Epcot puking. A cast member called for assistance and we they took me to the infirmary. While I was there my husband got sick too and there was more people arriving with the same symptoms that ate at the same restaurant. An ambulance took us to the hospital and it was food poisoning. Disney paid the bill for the hospital and reimburse us what we paid for the dining plan. We had never ate there again. We know it was a one time thing but after that experience we wont risk it again.

I have no way of knowing if it was food poisoning or just a stomach bug but it has happened to us twice.

One time it was me, the other time it was DS. Both cases were similar in which it involved throwing up essentially every hour for probably at least 8 hours or so. Of course you are completely wiped out for a good 24 hour period.

Both times it was hard to exactly pinpoint it to food poising because they were situations where essentially everyone had eaten the same thing but only one person in the group got sick.

I don't think so - knock on wood I never do.

I usually have an issue or two during each trip but that's most likely because of too much rich or greasy food that I'm not used to having on a daily basis.

I've had a normal stomach bug virus twice while there and I usually feel better a day or two later.

food poisoning - no

stomach virus - yes

how do i know? The day we left our home my preschooler had a kid in her class that was sent home from school right before we came to pick her up to leave.

then we each got it ... her - day 2, ds & me day 4, dh & baby - day 6...lots of fun I tell ya especially while on the deluxe dining plan.

I hear the stomach bug is going around just about everywhere...I have friends in tex, nc, sc, nv, ca, or, IA and ny all who have it now and they say it is a doozy- 2-3 days of solid vomiting unlike the one that came through here 2 months ago that lasted 6-12 hours....

No and the chances are neither did you. You were sick...that I believe but food poisoning takes a a while to show up. Almost never immediately. The chances are you got that virus or food poisoning someplace else it just happened to show up when you were there.

If you ate at a restaurant and you were the only ones sick then it probably wasn't from the restaurant. If it is in the same family then it could be from someplace else easily.

I hate these types of threads because they blatantly point a finger at specific places that may or may not deserve that type of injected fear factor. If you really believe it was from there then you need to report it to a Doctor or Disney or both, so if an actual situation happened that caused it...someone can identify the problem quickly before others get sick.

Actually according to this website, you can start experiencing symptoms within 30 minutes...

I usually hate these threads too, but it is possible to get sick pretty quickly after eating something with bacteria in it.
