Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

Does anyone know how long you are supposed to wait to get another vaccine after your COVID vaccine? DD17 leaves for college on 5/14 and she needs her last HPV vaccine. She had her 2nd Pfizer yesterday.

At least 2 weeks...I'd probably give it as much time as you have...Maybe May 7, so you have enough time for side effects and then getting set for college?

Actually, I do know this!
I work for a staffing agency and some of our clients require health screenings. We've been advised for our consultants to wait 14 days after getting the COVID vaccine before receiving any other vaccines.

Did they say why they canceled the appointment? I got my first Pfizer dose at Walgreens last week and have my second dose schedule for 4 weeks out and I am now freaking out that my second dose is going to be canceled!
Same. Mine is next week.

Nope. This is the email:

Hi _______,

Your appointment on April 16, 2021 at 4 pm has been canceled.

Thank your for your patience. We value the opportunity to serve and your community and we're working hard to improve the experience to make the COVID-19 vaccine available to everyone nationwide.

And there was a link you could click on to reschedule, but no appointments available. I found some news stories from a couple of weeks ago where people who scheduled both online at Walgreens have been running into problems with this kind of of thing because they may not have that vaccine in stock when the time comes. It probably doesn't happen to everyone, but looks like it's more than just him. I guess some retailers just didn't plan accordingly when they allowed you to schedule both at the same time online. Frustrating to say the least. I'm just hoping he doesn't run into problems getting his second dose at Kroger. He definitely has the vaccine card, etc. with the Pfizer info.

My son did not go to Walgreens but was vaccinated through the San Diego Dept. of Health. Two days before his second Pfizer shot, he got a similar email telling him that his vaccine was cancelled and that they had to move it to another time. They already had the next appointment lined up for him in that same email. I believe it was just supply issues.

My tax preparer was set to get his second Moderna shot this past Monday at a mass vaccination site. He showed up there for his 8:30 am appointment and they told him that they didn't get the Moderna vaccines in and that he was cancelled, but they were nice enough to arrange for him to get his vaccine at another mass vaccination clinic on the same day.

I think it's unacceptable to cancel like this with no idea when you'll go back.

So at 45 hours post first Pfizer the arm soreness is all but gone. Honestly, the Tdap vaccine was worse. My arm was sore for about 3 - 4 after that one.
My oldest just got her first Pfizer today. She felt pressured to do it because her sister and I did. So far only mild sore arm. She said the same thing about tetanus being worse.

Agreed. I was scheduled for my second dose at a mass drive through event sponsored by a major local hospital system. The day before, horrible storms were predicted for the day of. So I got an email, a message through the app, and a text that it was being rescheduled for the next day. About an hour after that I got my new confirmation: exactly the same time, just 24 hours later. Totally understandable and no big deal.

I can't imagine just being cancelled like that.

Yes, I was reading online too that in the Chicago area that some people’s second dose appointments were getting canceled end of March because they booked their first dose at one Walgreens location and the second dose at a different location. I guess each Walgreens either has Pfizer or Moderna.

I agree. Walgreens should go out of their way to make it right.

I'm here to vent about Walgreens again. So, DS got his first vaccine over 3 weeks ago, Pfizer. When he set it up online, it made him schedule the first and second dose and automatically put the second at 4 weeks out (even though Pfizer only needs 3 weeks -- I guess they figured it would be easier just in case you wound up getting Moderna). Y'all may remember that I complained here that they also charged him a $2.59 administrative fee instead of passing it onto insurance.

Anyhow, he was scheduled to get the 2nd dose this Friday (4 weeks out) and got an email this morning that it's been canceled! No explanation, just "click here" to reschedule. Of course, NOTHING available there or any other Walgreens in a 30 mile radius in the next week.

I found one for this Saturday at our Kroger that specifically asked if it was a first or second dose and what you previously received. So, it appears he is scheduled the day after he was supposed to get it at Walgreens, but now at Kroger with Pfizer per the confirmation email. He will bring both his vaccination card and the printout from Walgreens which is like a prescription sheet showing that he received Pfizer on that day. I'm hoping they'll accept it and not make him attempt to reschedule at a Walgreens for who knows when.

The two doses of Pfizer are exactly the same. They don't have to bring in any special second dose. They simply have to have some Pfizer on hand that isn't ear marked for someone else. So there is no reason vaccine wise why they should not take him. Same holds true of Moderna for people reading if they get in a similar situation BTW. The only thing is if they run out of Pfizer or something. In any case it's darn well worth a shot at it Saturday imo. The absolute worst that can happen is he doesn't get it and you're right back to where you are now. Good luck.

My oldest DS (40) drove down to Detroit because his company was doing a big vaccination site for their employees so he got his first Moderna. Ironically they still have to work from home until October according to the governor but that's fine; he likes working from home. :)
