Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

Just over 24 hours from my second dose of Pfizer. First time, only had a sore arm from the injection. This time: a major headache, feel like I am burning up (no high temp), and my arm is now starting to get sore. I will take it though.

Did they tell you to take Tylenol?

We have the same one and find it also reads slightly higher than a standard thermometer. I think it's important to know how our individual ones run and then we can make accurate judgments.

Yup. Pretty much the case with any measuring tool in life, whether it be weight, pressure, temperature, volume, color, sound, etc. It’s like cooking with an offset temperature setting of the oven.
Fortunately, some things can calibrate itself. But, most cannot, and it’s a good idea to compare and know the differences.
In some situations, accuracy doesn’t matter as long as it’s precise.

Alright I mentioned this above, but now I'm worrying. I am 8 hours post #2 Pfizer. I don't even have a sore arm. I've never met a vaccine that I did NOT get a side effect from. I did get a pretty sore arm from the #1 Pfizer dose as well as some mild fatigue. Nothing yet with this one--I know it's still early.

I had a brand new vaccinator this morning and I was her first patient. There was a supervisor there. The supervisor told her to bunch up my deltoid area because I have a very small muscle. I've just been reading that this is a HUGE no-no for intramuscular vaccines and there's a whole effort to #DoNotSqueezeMyArm or something like that. Apparently doctors have been watching all the TV shots of people getting vaccinated and arms getting squeezed. Bad technique. I think they were concerned my deltoid was so small they'd go too deep or something.

Now I'm just beside myself that the vaccine went under the skin and not the muscle and I won't get my vaccine protection. My god, I feel like I have the worst luck. How the heck did *I* have to get an inexperienced person with all the dread and anxiety I have over this. Not to mentione it was a bear for me getting there as I've been non-weightbearing for 6 weeks now. I'm a mess!! Sorry but I'm probably overreacting and I hope I am. I've got too much time on my hands right now trying to recover from my surgery. I just didn't need this. If I get zero side effects I just don't know what I'll do. :crazy2:

Breathe. I’m sure you got it. The supervisor is experienced and if you have a small arm it makes sense. Several people here in this thread have said they had zero side effects after the second does. People are making too much of what they’re supposed to mean. Just because you don’t feel like you got hit by a Mac truck doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

If it makes you feel better, the person who administered DH & my 2nd Pfizer vaccine yesterday didn't squeeze our arm & we also haven't had any side effects. With my first shot, I had a pulsing sound in one ear & bruising & a knot at the vaccine site. DH had a sore arm, then had nausea & light headedness on day 2 & 3. This time.... nothing so far. I do understand your concern though. I've been concerned that our immune system may not have provided a robust response.

My son's arm didn't hurt until this morning. He got his shot at 11am yesterday. My arm soreness was only really noticeable the next day as well. Don't worry. Unless you have over an inch of fat on your shoulder, the shot went into the muscle. I saw how long the needle was yesterday when I watched my son get his...it's long!

Talk to your doctor about it, I think they can do an anitbody test to make sure you developed the antibodies.

Believe me, I have terrible medical anxiety, so I am not at all trying to minimize how you feel. But I honestly do believe you got the vaccine. My dad had some mild side effects from his first dose and ZERO from his second. I have tiny arms too, and they squeezed my arm on the first one and not on the second--I had side effects both times. You hear about the side effects for two reasons: Either people want to complain because they're miserable, or they want to let others know what *could* happen so they can prepare. But in the clinical trials, only a little over half of people had any side effects, yet all of them developed robust protection. Among my own friend group, I know people who felt nothing either time, people who were flattened by the first shot and fine for the second and vice versa, and people who were down for three days both times...some squeezed, some not squeezed. Some very large arms and some very tiny arms. Some with prior Covid, some without. It's just completely individual. Besides, your vaccinator was new to being a Covid vaccinator, but not new to being a nurse. Nurses give all kinds of shots, and there's no fundamental difference with how these are administered. Plus the supervisor was right there. Again, I totally understand why you're scared, but try to take a few deep breaths and think it through. I honestly believe everything is just fine.

I didn’t really feel anything for 24 hours after my shot. See how you feel tomorrow.

First shot tomorrow. It will be Moderna or Pfizer. Not AstraZeneca, as it will not be given under 55 years old in my province.

Second shot will be the 4th of August, due to the decision made - final say by each province and territory - to stretch out vaccines to closer to four months to vaccinate more of the population. If vaccines start to fly in at a faster pace I am sure that they will revisit that decision.

Thank you, this helps.

During my first shot, the vaccinator used the correct "Z" approach and flattened my skin (she didn't think my deltoid was too small :-)). I felt the needle go in and it felt really weird as she injected the vaccine (not unlike when I get other vaccines). Arm started to hurt a few hours later and was really sore in the middle of the night. I may have had some mild achiness with the first shot but it's really hard to tell if it was from that. I had surgery in early March and I've been non-weight bearing for 6 weeks now. EVERYTHING on my body hurts.

Yesterday when she bunched up/pinched my arm to give the shot I really felt nothing, nor nothing going in and I thought "wow, maybe this is the secret to any easy shot" never knowing that squeezing the arm is not the desired way to give a vaccine.

I keep telling myself that if it didn't go into the muscle and was give subcutaneously, I'd likely be having skin irritaiton from that injection or redness. But I've got nothing.

I'm coming up on 24 hours post injection and nothing. I guess it doesn't really matter anymore. There's nothing to be done about it and if in the worst case my scenario is correct, I'll have to be happy with 80% protection versus 94% or whatever it is.

I know it doesn't sound like it but, really, your post did make me feel like in all likelihood it did go in and I'm just going to have my very first side-effect free vaccination.

I had Covid at the beginning of February. I received my second Pfizer vaccination yesterday afternoon and started feeling achy last night. I woke this morning with a low-grade fever and achiness. This is the same reaction I had to the first vaccine. I don't really mind the aches and pains because I am so happy to be fully vaccinated.

DD22 had her second Pfizer shot yesterday at 10:15am. She went to work and started feeling really sleepy around 2:00pm despite having a large coffee. She was also having off and on "tummy ache pangs" as she called it. After work, she went home and took a long nap. She woke up with a fever and had chills, shaking and body aches all night with no sleep. She said she was texting her boss this morning that she would not be going to work. She just took ibuprofen for her fever and body aches and went back to bed hoping to sleep. I promised not to text her until late afternoon unless I hear from her first.

I'm about 26 hours post 2nd Pfizer dose now, with zero side effects. As I wrote above, I'm worried that my injection didn't go intramuscular but who knows. Trying to stay upbeat about it but my mother just showed up, asked about my side effects and I told her I had nothing. She said "They must have done your shot wrong--you never NOT get side effects." :-( I have no need to wonder why I am the way I am. It's mom's fault!

You'll have to post back as the second subject in my "2 1/2 mile walk" approach to this. Good luck with it!

So, 21 hour point...I started getting a little more arm pain at the 4 hour point last night (which, I was really happy with, b/c blood cancer people have been known to get no immunity from these shots, and my 1st shot had almost no side effects...but some reaction now, I'm pretty sure, means some immunity:))...I waited til hour 6, when the pain was about a 4, but started radiating across the chest (with some pain in the lymph node under the arm) to take 1 Ibu...and the chest issue was gone (and the arm pain went back to 1). I took a 2nd Ibu before bed, and have woken up a touch tired and an arm pain at 1. No meds this morning.

If this is what I get, I actually consider it perfect - just enough reaction to know it worked, but not too much...but I'm gonna wait til 96 hours to know for sure, since I know a LOT of folks start reacting more strongly between 24-48 hours...and I'm planning another bland dinner just in case b/c GI issues would be my least favorite to get, so I'm trying to avoid them at all costs:)...

My daughter absolutely had arm pain. I was actually talking about the other sort of systemic side effects (flu like stuff aches, fever, headache, GI stuff). If you escaped that, then I call it a win. And it sounds like you've had a lot to contend with, so I'm glad all you had was arm pain. :grouphug:

FYI, my daughter's arm pain was all gone yesterday. She's 3 days post second injection and still nothing beyond the arm pain. She knows she got lucky.

For your experiment (I think it was your post), I'll be taking my 2.5 mile walk again today around lunch, since I feel good enough (and it's my daily thing)...and yeah, compared to Shingrex, so far, this is a breeze, so I'll take the lucky break:)...so here's hoping the walks and anti-inflammatory foods and fluids continue to keep the side effects here to a minimum:)...
