Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

I'm taking my dad to a local vaccine clinic (in RI) tomorrow since he is not a fluent English speaker. I am so happy that he is going to be vaccinated. Anyways, I booked him the last time slot since it will be after I get out of school and I'm planning on asking if there are any leftover vaccines that I could get. I feel a little shameless asking because I'm not in the current or close priority group but I'm a high school teacher. Should I even ask?
The worse thing that they can say is no!

I'm watching and waiting. I've lived long enough to have seen vaccines created, tested and the outcomes and I want to be careful which I choose. Right now, I'm watching for the Novavax. I like what I read about the ingredients and efficacy.
I’m in the Novavax trial and got my second injection a week ago. I think I am in the 33% that got placebo because all I had was a headache for a few hours that day (which happens 1-2 times weekly anyway). My friend is also in the trial, and had muscle aches, headache, and chills the night of his second shot so we probably got the real deal. But I will get the actual vaccine when they apply for authorization (supposedly on April according to the trial coordinator I saw) since they will unblind and give the placebo group the real vaccine asap

Age, race, ethnicity, urban/suburban/rural are all legitimate things to examine in a study like this. Political affiliation is not, and the only reason for including it would be to show a political result.

And for me, that changes the "study" from a medical study to a political science exercise and I give it the full weight that deserves...with is seconding your BS call.

That wasn’t meant to be a medical study.

But, I guess things are fake these days if someone finds something they disagree with.

Absolutely! I’m for anyone who can get is should take the opportunity no matter what group they’re in. The more people protected the better. I’ll cross my fingers for you.

Absolutely! No need to waste vaccines.

If you are in a situation where you might be able to get a vaccine, definitely ask! Everyone I know who works in healthcare says this, because if they deal with you now, they won’t have to deal with you later. This afternoon I drove DH to the county health department to get his scheduled first Moderna. He is very charming and chats everyone up and mentioned that I was waiting out in the car and hey, maybe there’s a spare dose for her. Sure enough, the lady who went in before him was having severe ‘shot anxiety’ and rescheduled and left. Bingo! Guess who got her dose? It was the very end of the day and I was the very last person in the ‘wait 15 minutes’ area. Sitting in the car after, celebrating, we saw the staff lock up and leave at 5:00. No one wants any dose wasted, SO ASK!

My husband is going with my son (firefighter) tomorrow in the hopes he can get a leftover vaccine. I specifically scheduled him for the last appointment of the day.

I am way overdue for a diagnostic exam. It took forever to get my last appointment I'm now rescheduled for the end of April. I will admit it makes me a little anxious.
Most breast cancers are not fast growing but if you are already overdue and are anxious can you move it up? ONe of the reasons I do not want people to reschedule appts they already have is that it can be hard to get appt and also many are already overdue. Its just a little inconvenience of being told your lymph node is large and having to come for a targeted follow up of lymph node in a few months. Its not as if people are being recommended to have unnecessary biopsies. hope all goes well. FWIW, I feel we are seeing the lymph node enlargement more with moderna than with pfizer. Thats just my experience.

I got my first Pfizer vaccination yesterday at Walgreen's. I think it was a glitch in the matrix that allowed me to sign up for an appointment but I am an essential worker that's high risk (an overweight teacher and obesity was listed). I was incredibly nervous that it wasn't going to work. The pharmacy tech a short checklist, which I was able to see. 70+? no. healthcare? no. Essential? yes. high risk? yes. I thought they might ask me what I did or need proof but they didn't ask for any additional information. I was fully prepared to show them my badge or a paystub. I purposely chose the last appointment of the day to up my chances. No one wants it to go to waste.

My students, who are currently hybrid (2 days in-person, 2 days remote, 1 day flex) will return to 4 days in person the week that I get my second shot. SCORE! Plus, I will now be fully vaccinated for my trip in April. That's an added bonus.

I'm 67. I became eligible in NH for the over 65's. I'm going for my second Moderna vaccine on Monday. I've heard some folks do experience flu like symptons for a couple days, including a fever. I'll report back after that.

Trying to coordinate appointments and procedures has been challenging. They will call if there are any cancellations.

I registered my husband with Georgia’s new system this past Monday (22nd), he received an email yesterday (24th) saying he was eligible to schedule an appointment, and he managed to snag one for tomorrow! He has to drive 7 hours round trip to get it but, oh well! He’s considered an essential worker in a healthcare-related field. He manages IT networks for healthcare systems providing medical care to Covid patients (among others) and his job requires cross country air travel. I’m thrilled he’ll be able to get the vaccine prior to his next trip! His second dose will be due the day before he’s scheduled to leave, so I’m not sure how he’s going to handle that — whether he’ll be able to get an appointment the exact day he needs, or how he’ll handle flying the next day if he’s having a vaccine reaction. Guess we’ll see!

My local news posted last night that Kroger pharmacy was starting to do the vaccine. I immediately checked and was able to get my mom an appointment for her first dose this Saturday. She is so relieved. Her appointment with the health department wasn’t until mid March. We were also able to make the second dose appointment at the same time.

Now to wait for more phases to open for the rest of the family.

Yes! Please do. My friends' husband got one yesterday because the 2 ahead of her no showed.

So up until now since moving into Phase 2 if you were 65 and up in my county you were eligible but only if you were a current patient at one of the hospital systems that the county provided doses to. You could also be eligible elsewhere in other counties in the metro depending on where you work. Next week the county will expand from age 80+ down to 65+ :hyper::hyper: The county says: "lowering the age to 65 represents a huge number of people living in the county that will soon qualify for the shot" that's because it takes away the restriction of only being a current patient at the several hospital systems in the area. This week was makeup clinic for remaining 80+ and health care workers since the clinics were cancelled last week due to the extreme cold. Also this week started up the pharmacies getting the vaccine and 65+ are also now eligible there. 1 Walmart location, 1 independent pharmacy, 7 in local grocery stores (same pharmacy company though).

Back on the teacher front that is continuing full steam ahead and it looks like the state's plan for extra doses just for teachers is being followed through as they are receiving additional doses just for teachers from the state. My county said "This Saturday (27th) we're going to immunize about 2,300 individuals from K-12 schools," Followed by another 1,200 shots for licensed child care to help stop the spread. Health officials said that another 2,300 doses will be available for educators the following week."

Before this the county said they had done about 40% of educators and staff so this should really help. Of note the 3 big districts in the county are returning the middle and high school kids to full time in-person vs hybrid or remote. One starts back up March 1st I believe, another March 22nd and another March 23rd.

____________

Thanks for those that responded about teacher priority and progress in their areas. Sure looks like that's really starting up throughout :)
