Have you found any "miracle products" that actually work?

I have not tried the Magic Eraser yet, but I plan to. Actually, someone posted a link to a site here yesterday to send away for a free sample, so I'm hoping I get one. It said allow 6 to 8 weeks for delivery. I might break down and buy one before then though.

Ok, my products to add would be,

Glad Press' N Seal. An amazing product! I had my doubts about it, but trust me, you will love this.

I also use a product called Simple Green. It can be bought in the gallon size container at Sam's Club for around $7.00 a bottle and sometimes it has a $2 or $3 rebate. You can also pick it up for about the same price for a quart at places like Western Auto. That's pretty expensive though! It will take out almost any stain you can imagine in clothing. I've heard lots of mechanics wives use it in their husbands laundry because it will remove all the grease. I might try Dawn the next time I'm out of it though.

I use a product called CLR (calcium, lime, and rust) to clean my bathroom. I put it into a spray bottle and there is NO scrubbing required. It's pretty pricy though, but that's ok with me if I don't have to scrub! LOL

I don't know if it's the best out there, but we use Herbal Essences conditioner. My daughter switched for a time (my husband picked up something else one time) and someone immediately noticed that he hair texture was not the same. Like I said, it might not be the best out there, but we won't be switching again.

I also wanted to say that I don't think I'd be fearful to try any Mr. Clean product. From my experiences and from what I've read, their products seem to do exactly what they're suppose to do.

Oooh, ooh, look at me! Look at me! I know some!

First the absolute best tile & grout cleaner is by Finazzle. It is in a big, white, low-budget bottle with a magenta cap and a flowery label. I believe it has the ultra-creative name of "Bathroom Tile & Grout Cleaner." We are the happy owners of a nearly 20-year old house lived in by at least 3 families before us. 3 of the SLACKEST families in the world, I might add. The grout in our bathroom was dark brown and disgusting. You squirt this all over your floor and in 15 minutes, all the nastiness in your grout is floating on the surface. Then you mop it up and enjoy the dazzling whiteness. I have recommended this to people at work & they have had the same result. They sell it at Lowe's & I think Publix now.

Carbona Stain Devil for ink--while a pain in the butt, it is the only thing that has ever removed ink. Even Sharpie ink. Hair spray does not work for me.

Sno-Bowl is the best toilet cleaner I've ever seen. It worked so well that DH wanted to clean his tub with it :p but the bottle says not to do that.

Anyway, these are all "good things." Enjoy!

Awesome: Cleaning product from the dollar store. Works wonderfully on everything, except windows. Cuts grease.

Odo Ban: From Sams. Sanitizes and removes odors. Even cat urine smell. When you first use it the smell is even worse for about a day then goes away completely. It is also used to kill germs around the house. Our golden got sick in the house several years ago and make a mess on my new carpet. I know he had to be really sick because he NEVER messed in the house. I cleaned it up the best I could then saturated the area with odoban. It still stunk for a day and then you would have never known it had happened.

Bleach: I use plain household bleach in my toilets. It's cheap and cleans great. I also use bleach and water to clean my kitchen sponges.

Vinegar and Water: Works wonders on windows. Also cheap without chemicals.

The best all around cleaner I have found so far is Orange Clean from the dollar store. It was the only thing that cleaned the mess of our kitchen cabinets when we first moved into our home. It works for bathrooms too.

this thread deserves a BUMP

Think I will buy some DAWN today at the food store sounds like it is great for quite a few things...thanks for he tips

I'd love to hear more about this dish soap/vinegar in the laundry. Some questions...

1. You just, and only, use dish soap, not laundry detergent? How much? What kind?

2. When do you add vinegar? I don't hear my machine as it's downstairs, so I can't just run down to add it during or before a cycle...any ideas on this?

THANKS! :)

I love this thread and thanks to the person that bumped it. I need to get some of these products.

I can vouch for the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser at least. DS bounced a ball against our white front door and it was covered with scuff marks that would NOT wipe off. I tried the Magic Eraser and they came off easily. This kept me from having to repaint the front door. :)

A product that we finally tried and loved is Rain X for car windows. It was fun driving around in the rain without using windshield wipers. :teeth:

As far as when to add vinegar to the washing cycle, my machine has one of those things to put the softener in before the cycle starts, so I just put mine in there. However, if you don't have one of those, you could buy one of those Downey balls and put the vinegar in there. That might work.

When you first open the lid after the wash is complete, you might get a whiff of vinegar, but don't worry. After it's dried, you don't smell a thing. I just did this today since I ran out of Downey (love the smell of this stuff)

WOW!!! there are so many great ideas here!!! I have never heard of putting dish soap in the laundry. I know this has been asked before but i haven't seen an answer yet. How much do you use? TSP?? 1/2 cup?

HauntedMansionGeek -- do tell about the Dawn Detergent. How do you use it in the laundry? What kind of stains is it good for?

Oh gosh, I'm sorry I didn't peek in after I wrote about my Dawn miracle. LOL

Let me describe my husbands work clothes first...maybe that will help.
He works in a taconite mine, usually in "the pit" where they do the actual blasting of rock or in the shop where the trucks are kept/maintained.
The grime on his clothes is fine black baby powder textured taconite dust, fuel oil, massive amounts of black axle grease and a few occasional burns.

The Dawn gets squirted directly onto the stains, and then some into the washer as well. It doesn't always remove the black color in the stain but the grease washes away.........

I use a small amount in with my towels and regular clothing too.....I often drip butter or other greasy things on myself and the Dawn takes it ALL out.

YAY DAWN!! ::yes::

I don't measure the squirt, I just SQUIRT for about a couple of seconds. I have not used laundry detergent in YEARS!

I love Downy Wrinkle Release! I hate to iron T-shirts and I go through a lot of them. As I take them out of the dryer, I spray them with Wrinkle Release. I just snap them and the wrinkles disappear. No ironing! Yes!

:scratchin I need to go buy some DAWN. I can wash my dishes, scrub the dog and do my laundry all with one bottle.

Who could ask for anything more

:p

Capture carpet cleaner works great. We had a huge u-shaped traffic pattern on a berber carpet. We went and bought MANY different products to clean it. Although the dirt seemed to come out, after the carpet dried the traffic pattern re-appeared. Saw capture at home depot and decided to try it. Voila, stains are gone. It is a dry powder cleaner. It supposedly works in as little as 30 minutes, but we left it on several hours and even overnight. Sears also carries it. Ti comes with a pre-treater which is a light mist before using the dry powder. The pre-treater does make a difference for really bad areas.

Also love the Mr.Clean eraser.

Vinegar and water (equal parts) took the yellow stain out of carpet after my dog vomited (on brand new carpet of course!). Just blot it on and blot to dry with towels. It took a few times, but it really worked.

Peanut butter also works well for getting price stickers off things. I use creamy.
So does mayonnaise.

I am throwing a load of wash in now, with the dish detergent. Will let you know how it comes out...............by the way, DH used liquid dish detergent in the dishwasher......what a MESS!!

I think the Clorox bleach sticks are great as well as some stuff called "Great Stuff" for sealing leaks, cracks, etc. Oxy Clean isn't really any better than most other things. Also, the new practice of putting cleaning solution in a tub of "wipes" is a great idea. We use any and all of those that we can. Makes clean up much less of a hassle.

I am going to try the dish soap in the washer, but beware....if you have a water softener the suds will increase....The place where we bought our softener told me to only use 1/4 of what I normal use with soft water....so I would imagine dish soap would really foam.
I also love the Magic Erasers.....I cant wait to try the new type that dont fall apart so easily.
