Have you ever taken only your camera (no bag) into parks?

This will be my first trip with my dslr. I'm wondering if anyone has ever taken just their camera on the strap with no bag into the parks for the day? Will I regret not having a camera bag?

I figure I can't get pictures if it's stuck in the bag anyway, but are there times when you really just need to store it away for a bit while you're in the parks?

I take 2 DSLRs and no bag, I do however wear a vest, which holds extra memory, batteries, 2 strobes and lenses if I decide to take any extra lenses with me

I always prefer to have a camera bag... You can always buy a locker if you don't feel like carrying the bag.

Probably 90% of the time I hit the parks without a bag. I do carry an extra battery, memory card and a gallon size Ziploc bag for wet rides.

The only time the camera bag gets to go to the parks is in the evening, when I will carry a flash and my Gorilla Pod.

The plastic bag is a great idea. You do need to be prepared in case of rain! :thumbsup2

I sometimes carry just the camera (memory cards & battery in my pocket) and except for rain and wet rides have found no need to put it away.

I don't carry a camera bag in the parks. I do have a small backpack for any extras but the camera stays on my neck.

I bring my bag because I have the worst luck in the world. Everytime I leave something back in the room, I end up needing it for a photo op that I didn't anticipate. It drives me crazy. Sometimes I will get a locker, especially on the real hot weather days.

The only time I take the bag into the parks is when I am planning on doing nothing more than photography. Then I'll need extra lenses, tripod, flash etc. This could be day or night depending on what I'm wanting to shoot.

The rest of the time it's just the camera and a single lens.

When I went this past October, I had a small bag that basically only held the camera. (one of those that are shaped and fitted for the larger lens) It was small enough to not be in the way but there if I wanted to put the camera away. However I did find that everytime I put the camera away, I wanted it back out to capture something. :goodvibes

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'm going to skip buying the bag I was considering. I did buy a camera strap cover from someone on Etsy. It's lined with Minky, which is a very soft fleece. Makes the strap a lot more comfy.

the gallon bag is a great idea for water rides. i've found even those that aren't supposed to get you that wet, usually have water in the seats from the ride before so I end up wet. I like the idea of a bag though because i am a bit clumsy and have had my camera bump things a few times when I wasn't using it and just had it hanging. Being a female, carrying a shoulder bag for my camera, just replaces my regular routine of carrying a purse, I move my purse items I might need to the one bag.

I have never carried a camera bag into the parks. I do carry a small messenger type bag with all the essentials for the family and just keep batteries, memory cards, ziploc bag and sometimes an additional lens in it.

50/50 for me, with and without bag. Some days I just put my walkaround lens on and bring only the camera, other days I bring along a bag with 1-3 extra lenses depending on what I'm intending to shoot for the day. I have two size bags I bring - 1 is a small bag that could only fit my camera with 18-250 mounted, and one small prime (30mm F1.4) inside - it's there to carry the 30mm for dark ride use, and serve as rain protection if needed. The other bag is a larger bag which can fit up to 3 additional lenses, plus the camera body and mounted lens...that's for when I'm intending to do much diverse shooting day and night, and want maximum flexibility.

Some days, if it's real nasty and rainy, I'll bring only my P&S and just leave the DSLR entirely...I have a waterproof case for the P&S and since the weather is foul I only want to have a small camera along for those 'just in case' shots.

I always bring a bag as well. But my bag is pretty small (Tamrac Velocity 7x) so it's not cumbersome. Plus I like have the extra protection and security when I'm in the crowds.

I always take the camera bag to the parks....

But the bag I usually take is very small. The holster bag I use will hold the camera with a lens attached. And another small lens. I take a 50mm and 24mm lens in this bag for most of the park trips. The camera strap is used to carry the camera and bag. The bag is there as protection from bumps and water though I would not depend on the bag for 100% protection on a wet ride or a heavy down pour.

The bigger camera bags only get taken to AK or fireworks related visits.

The small holster bag protects the camera but is not a big deal to carry. It is very light and not at all like lugging around a bigger bag.

Later,
Dan

I don't use a bag while at Disney. When I go to the parks I have the camera around my shoulder along with 2 lens pouches that attach to my belt and I can fit another small lens (50mm f/1.8 or 30mm f/1.4) in my pocket.

Can I ask a dumb question of the people who've posted that they don't bring a bag of any kind? Do you just wear your camera on the more jerky rides (I know none of the WDW rides are all that violent, but I could just see me letting my camera whack into the restraining bar on, say, BTMRR) or do you just not ride those rides when you're carrying your camera? What about rides where cast members sometimes ask people to put cameras away because they don't allow flash/any photography? I have watched CMs on Soarin', for example, ask people to put away cameras they were wearing around their neck.

Maybe I'm too precious with my stuff, but I'm way too paranoid to leave my camera around my neck on something like Dinosaur. (That T-Rex might eat it!)

OP thanks for posting this. I'll be taking my first trip with my dslr in a few weeks and I was wondering the same thing.
