they don't write back to you?

Twice now Ive emailed different people with support for whatever situation they were posting about and I never heard back from them even though I checked to see if they read their mail and they had.

I guess I figure it wouldnt be too much trouble to drop a note back even if it only had two words written on it to acknowledge that they got it. I was trying to be nice. **SIGH**

I feel like SRUAlmn when she posted the "Threads that Bombed" post.... I wonder if I said something that wasnt as nice as I thought it was.

(on the other hand I have had some very very nice conversations via PM with some other people so maybe its not just me!)

I'm sure that lots of posters don't even know that they have PM's in their box. Up until about a year ago, I didn't realize this either. Now I have e-mail notification if I get a PM and I check User Cp also, but I honestly didn't know about them back then. I'm sure the posters you PM'd are not even aware of them.

Melora--

I fear that I may be one of the "two" posters you mentioned!

I did get the article you sent and it was indeed a good one. I should have shot you back a PM to say thanks.

Sorry!

Now and then but not too often. I just like to think they were busy or it slipped their mind. I know sometimes, I have received a PM, read it, but, busy at the moment, kept it to respond to later, with it thus getting buried. I'll find it a week later as I am cleaning.

Some PM'd me about the ladies shaving thread. I'm not sure who it was, but I thought it was an accident that they PM'd me. I thought they wanted the OP of that thread. If you were PMing me and I didn't respond, I'm sorry.

Melora,

Why do you feel that people are obliged to write back to you?

I understand your particular question Melora, but in some instances, the conversation does have to end somewhere.

Dan? Oh, Dan?? The infamous last word PM'er! :p

It's happened to me and I've done it to people on accident.

Sorry of I've offended anyone

Melora, thank you for reminding me. Sometimes I forget I haven't responded to a p/m.

I've received PM's where I wrote a response to and received a message telling me the person I am sending the PM to has a full mailbox. I tried again to resend the messages but the boxes were still full then I just forgot to try again, until now! :D

if its a long p/m there asking for it

Actually, I think it's polite to acknowledge a pm if it is informational, supportive or asks a question. If I don't get a response (even just a "Thanks for letting me know"), I consider the person to be rude. Sorry, EJ, that's the way it is for me.

Now...if you've exchanged PMs with someone...sure it has to end somewhere....no big deal. I'm talking about initiating a PM and never receiving a response to a question, a comment, an observation.

There are only two instances I would ignore a PM....if the PM was insulting and intentionally trying to pick a fight or if the PM was suggestive. Even then I might respond depending on the situation and the person who wrote it.

Oh....and if I'm sending support and I know the person has 1 million PMs sent to him/her expressing that sentiment, I totally understand why they wouldn't individually respond. Most people in that situation start a thread expressing their thanks to people. That's totally okay.

I for one didn't ever notice I had a PM box when I first started at the DIS for close to 8 months-- then it had a dozen messages. I felt so bad thinking I ignored these people.

I PM'd someone concerning something from the Theme Park Attraction board and have never gotten a response but I figured it's because the person isn't aware of the PMs.
