Have you ever PMed someone and.....

I thought that everyone was notified when they had a new PM. Is that not the case?

I never was. As a matter of fact, I was expecting a PM this past week and I wasn't informed when it came.

Yep, they stay for 6 months. Then those that are read or unread get poofed.

I've PM'd and been PM'd. I used to get a notice saying I had
PMs but don't get those anymore and I forget to check.
The last two PMs I got were very nice but I didn't see them
until about three weeks later because of the end of school
and my subsequent vacation. I hope those senders were not
offended that they got my responses so late. How can you
tell if someone has read their PM?

Message tracking in your pm's. On the left side of your inbox is a folder list. Click on message tracking there, click on the bottom of your inbox where it says pm tracking, or use the drop-down arrow on the right hand of the screen that says jump to folder and click on message tracking.

I pm'd someone in "authority" on one of these boards, and even though I didn't ask for or require a response, I thought I would hear something. I heard nothing. Didn't hurt my feelings, though....

I wouldn't worry about it. Some people don't have the automatic thingie pop up and tell them they have a PM or they don't check their user CP often.

It's nice to get a reply but I don't get all upset if I don't. Especially if the person is going through something difficult and I've PMed them a message of support, I just figure that whatever they're going through is taking up their time.

I don't think I've ever ignored anyone. I have pop-up and email notifications so I usually catch everything.

If I have missed someone, it wasn't intentional and I apologize.

There are a couple of ways. Click on USER CP at the top of the screen. That'll take you to your inbox. Another way is if you sign in at www.disboards.com, scroll down to the bottom of the screen, you'll see if you have any pm's and how many.

It's happened to me alot of times before, and it does bug me that I don't get a response, especially when it is something that you need or want a response for. It does affect me at times.

Sometimes even when you click the box that you want a pop up to notify of new PMs, the pop up never happens. On the bottom of the main boards page is the place where you can see without opening your PM box if you have any unread messages.

And yes, if you sent someone a message, I think they should at least say thanks for the message, unless like others have said, many people sent a sympathy message to something written on the board. Then, an open thank you message to everyone seems right.
