Have you ever peeked?

Big time peeker here!!! I don't like surprises and I am one of those people who want to know the end of the book before I read it!!

I peeked once when I was little. I found my Roy Rogers double holster with pearl handled guns - HA!! I wanted to be a cowgirl when I grew up.

It was the first and last time I ever peeked at the presents. Took all the fun out of it.

I have peeked a few times. I think I was about 10 or 11 and the presents were underneath my parents bed and I peeked and saw some clothes. Then another time I looked in my stocking and saw some books I wanted.

Well, I never did. I was much too scared to.

However, one Christmas morning as my mother, brother and I were opening presents, my kid brother, who was in 3rd or 4th grade, would shake a present before opening it and proclaim, "I believe this is a video game, it feels like Jurassic Park II." My mother was livid, as he kept doing this with all of his gifts. Turns out she'd left a bunch of receipts out and he saw them.

DH was always threatened as a child that if he went snooping, Santa would know and he would have nothing to open on Christmas morning. Well, his parents sent him off to do some chore and he accidentally saw a bunch of hidden, unwrapped gifts. He was sooooo upset, hysterical and crying. His parents tried their best to reassure and console him that everything would be fine, but he was very upset. He still talks about that Christmas as being one of the most traumatic events of his childhood.

Never ever! I like being surprised!
Ok once...this year.
It was an accident! My mother and I went to Disneyland together in November, and back at the hotel room, I was digging through the bags of souveniers when I came across a couple of items she had bought without my knowledge :rolleyes1 So now I know that I am getting a wallet & eyeglass case of my favorite film, Alice in Wonderland, for Christmas. Whoops!!! :teeth:

I peeked one year when I was 9- I thought I got away with it, too. I was especially excited that I was getting a manicure set in a red leather case.

Well, on Christmas morning, I started opening my presents... then realized that the pile was much smaller than I remembered. I finished opening, and no manicure set- or several other things I remembered seeing. My mom figured out I'd peeked, so she returned about 1/2 of my presents.

I was really disappointed, but tried to cover, still believing that Mom didn't know. Well, she informed me that bad little girls who disobey their parents don't get all the presents they thought they were getting. I was devastated- NOT a happy Christmas for me. But I learned my lesson- I have never peeked since then.

And I never got my manicure set!

wanted to add - EVERY year when I was younger, my Mother hid gifts so well that she lost some. Realizing the last present had been unwrapped, she would get this concerned look on her face, and start poking around under the tree, muttering "there SHOULD be one more..." Looked under the sofa, then started wandering throughout the house mumbling to herself...one year it was a loofah sponge that didn't turn up until my birthday (July). :rotfl:
Even though I don't live with them any more, stuff like this still happens. A couple years ago she thought she bought me a Quay Brothers DVD and after all the gifts had been unwrapped and it wasn't there, she scrounged through all her holiday receipts until she found the one from Borders - which didn't have any such DVD on it. :confused3 "Whoops, I thought I bought it for you!" Gives new meaning to the phrase "It's the thought that counts" :p

My brothers and I were THE biggest snoops as kids. We knew well before Xmas what was gonna be waiting.

Guess that's why I don't snoop now. Don't wanna know. It's always interesting to see if Wifey has paid attention to my HINTS thru the year. :teeth:

I was awful :( When I was a teenager, I went as far as unwrapping one of the presents to see what it was, then wrapped it back up again. How lame is that?!

Philadisney: are we related? Do we have the same mom?? My mom does exactly the same thing!! Every year she will say, "I thought there was something else..." Or there's the classic moment every year where someone will be in the middle of unwrapping a gift, and Mom will snatch it out of their hands yelling, "No! That's not for you, I must have put the wrong name on it!" It makes Christmas very exciting.

Definitely sounds like it! We got through this year without any such "incidents", amazingly. :lmao:

Not me…I like surprises too much. But when my DS was about 12, he unwrapped EVERY SINGLE PRESENT that was for him under the tree. And this is how I found out: he went to my parents' home in another state when school was out for Christmas vacation. DH and I were going down on Christmas Eve and would be bringing the presents with us. When we started to get the presents to take to the car, the wrapping paper on every single one of my DS's presents started falling off. He obviously did a very poor job of taping them back up! :lmao: :lmao:
