Once , my brother and mum went to the hospital and I came from work didn't have my keys so had to wait outside for 90 minutes

Yes. I remember once when I was a kid my mom locked us out of the house (before cell phones). We had to smash a small window in the back door to get in!

I've done it once, but in the post cell phone era, so I just paid a locksmith

Sure, years ago. I popped the screen out of the back door and entered through the frame, no problem!

Not in the modern times, we've got a remote on our garage door and leave the door to the house inside unlocked so we can get in without a key.

In the old days, yes, but we always had a neighbor with a key so it wasn't a long wait.

It's funny we always go through the garage door. But if the power goes out, all the other doors in my house are double locked and have one of those hotel locks at the top.

Can't wait to address that issue when it happens.

Yes. After that a neighbor has a key and there is a hidden key in my backyard.

Yes. Many times. Once when we were still living in NY, and my dad was spending weekends here in PA, I locked myself out of the house and it was Friday, and my dad wouldn't be home until Monday. I also had an alarm in the house, so if I broke in, I knew the alarm was going to go off. My boyfriend at the time and I, looked at the back door, and saw that the hinges were exposed to the outside. We unscrewed and took the hinges off and sort of pried the back door open that way, and I slipped through the door. The alarm did go off for a bit before I could get in there and get it shut off. Cops didn't come. Once we saw how easy it was that even I could get in when locked out, we had that back door better secured and a new door put in.

I work for our local police dept. I keep a spare set of keys in my desk and have let my DS know if it ever happens, he can go there and get them. We have had to use them on 3 different occasions! LOL! Twice DS locked the door behind him before driving off, leaving me, who had been working in the yard, no way in! Thankfully, I only live 3 blocks from work. In October, DS had to go to the PD and ask someone for the spare set because I was out of town and he had locked himself out.

TC :cool1:

My garage door has the ability to run..albeit at a low opening/closing speed and only for so many times..without the power being on due to battery back up. I haven't had to use that yet though.

We don't lock our door from our garage inside our house so we could still get in. We also have an egress window in the basement that isn't locked (the only window in the house not locked).

Yep -- with a new baby asleep in the living room. I pushed in a window A/C unit and climbed through the window. We hid a spare outside after that! Unfortunately, it's been used many times since...

Sure. Our house had a locked door (with entry lock) going downstairs. I think it was because the original owner had a tenant and limited that tenant's access. Our kid pressed the lock button and closed the door while we were downstairs and we didn't have the key to the front door. We never had a key for that inside door. There was a nonfunctional phone downstairs and our VoIP and cell phones were all upstairs. We ended up going to a neighbor to use a phone to call my parents, who had a key to our front door. I replaced the door with an unlocked passage lock.

I had a room tenant at my house once, and he called me after he locked himself out of his room. He couldn't drive his car since his entire keyring was locked in the room. I didn't keep that key with me, so I had to drive him to my other house where I kept the backup keys and drive him back. He owed me a meal for that.

I have since replaced my door with a keypad lock. never get locked out again! Its quite nice because i do have rooms rented out, i dont have to rekey the locks every time a new roommate moves in, i just need to erase the codes and start with brand spankin new code... :]

It's easy enough to get in without an opener or power. DH's keys slipped out of his pocket during the most frightening, cab ride from hell. (a story for another thread) There was no way we were going to call and ask the psycho cabbie to come back so DH busted into the garage. My sister and best friend both had keys but it was like 4am. We shouldn't because it's REALLY easy to get into someone's garage but we leave the door between open also.

The last time it was because we did lock that door. Just got home from vacation and the spare set of keys I'd tossed in the console of my truck vanished. Luckily my SIL was right up the road and down around the corner. It was torture though, we all had to pee!

Once my FIL locked us out of his house when we'd been out. (on purpose, another story) and we sent DD in through the doggie door.

Being locked out of my own house is a kind of a phobia for me. Consequently, I have never left the house without a door key even if someone else was home. Sometimes when DW & I are going somewhere I stop to throw my keys in my pocket and she's tell me I won't need them. I think to myself "Famous last words of someone who's eventually going to get locked out." ;)

yes may times as a teenager. I knew which window was kept unlocked. Now we have a keypad lock with a key lock override. I carry my key in my wallet but have never used it. We just use the keypad to unlock the door. Its great for the nanny and cleaning lady. We know who went in and when.

In my case, it's not if I have but how many times I have. My daughter lives 15 minutes from me and she does too. Lol

Nope, I did forget my MB last trip when I ran down to the gift shop to pick up my packages, was so embarrassed. If I did lock myself out it wouldn't be a big deal my son has a spare key and so does my cleaning lady as well as my honey. We also keep the kitchen door unlocked into the garage because we have a garage door opener in all three of our vehicles. My honey also keeps a key to the basement door in his truck so we could always go in that way. Push comes to shove, our neighbor two doors down used to work for one of government alphabet organizations (CIA, FBI, HS, whatever he won't say) so I'm betting he could get us in.

Yes - on the morning of our dress rehearsal for our wedding. I'll never forget it. DH was at work and I walked outside to take the garbage out not thinking when the door closed behind me. It was April and a little chilly and I had to shoes on. We lived in a semi rural area and the neighbors that were all close by were at work - except for across the road I happen to see one's daughter pulling in to drop the grandchildren off for the day so I quickly ran over and was able to use their phone. My in-laws didn't live too far away so I after a few tries I was able to track down my father in law who finally came to let me back in. Ever since then I am extremely careful about walking out and checking the locks on doors!

DS locked me out when he was 18 months old....slider patio door.
Had to get a neighbor come break the door jam to get in.
Always a key hidden outside after that.

Nope. I'm very conscious to check and double check to make sure I have my keys before I lock the door. I also do the same thing with car keys.
