Have you ever had a conversation with someone famous?

Yep. Quite a few times, actually. I grew up in Maine where a lot of celebrities have vacation homes.

Just over Christmas I was in TJ Maxx looking for maternity clothes and ran in to John Travolta (a regular in my home town) in the toys section. I had my three girls with me and he asked them what they wanted for Christmas and what girls their age (my oldest is tall, and almost 10) were into right now.

We talked for a good 15 minutes about girl stuff. It was hilarious. He had a full mustache, and I teased him saying, "You know, that mustache really isn't fooling anyone..."

He's quite a regular and is there a lot. He has two homes in the surrounding area, one on an island and our town is the pit stop. So people really just treat their family as regulars.

The very next day, about an hour from my hometown up the highway, and went into my sister's store looking for toys! She was all freaked out though. Apparently John waited until the last minute to buy presents for his daughter! :rotfl2:

When I was in highschool, I used to bag and cashier at the only grocery store in town and we would get a lot of plain and boat orders that needed to be boxed early saturday mornings. I would go into work at 6 am just to do Martha Stewart's, because I was the only person that could put up with her cr@p. I finally lost my temper with her when she threated to have my bag boy fired because he substituted one brand of real vanilla extract with the store brand of real because we didn't have any of the kind she wanted in stock. I pretty much lost it and gave her a piece of my mine. I have a good ol' Irish temper, and after that, she didn't complain again much. That was my senior year in high school, so I didn't work there when I went to college.

I used to baby sit Mel Gibson's kids during the summer junior and senior year. He lived four houses down from us, right on the water. It's how I got to be a principle extra in Man Without a Face as "window shopper girl", although I don't think I made the scrolling credits with that one.;)

We've had many movies filmed in our area, and I have been fortunate enough to be in most of them. Steven King is also a regular, but it is Maine after all....:rolleyes1

sounds fun!

He was just a sweet old man, actually. He was very interesting and pleasant to talk to. And I would guess that it was around 1993 or 1994...before prison, yes. I was shocked that, in the midst of all the controversy, he was just openly speaking to folks like that.

I beleive in the right to die, so I actually admire old Jack. I was talking at work yesterday with someone that making the "kavorkian machine" would be pretty easy. With the right disease.....I am choosing my own destiny!

but back to our original programming........you all are very impressive!

The 3 Garza Brothers that make up the Los Lonely Boy Band. I've talked with them a lot. If you have the chance to see them in concert... it is amazing.

My mom (and I) met the Love Boat cast back in the 70's LOL. They filmed a lot of the show in my home town (Skagway, Alaska). And Marc Harmon. My mom said I was toung tied :D My mom's favorite was Audry Lind from Three's Company (Mrs Roper). My mom said she was the nicest, most down to earth lady. She sent my mom stuff from the cruise ship, plus signed stuff later.
My Mom, Grandma and I met Shirley McClain (was that her name? Mom off the Partridge family) and her husband a few times and their most favorite... John Wayne (and his son) a couple times. She said they always had nice talks.

I grew up in a small town in Alaska and they had a lot of actors/actresses/stars come through. Last year Calista Flockheart and her family were there.

Jack Scalia... he was filming a tv series, my office was one of their locations.

Not-so-famous, but even closer - one of my very good friend's daughter is a Jacksonville Jaguar cheerleader. I was at the hospital when she was born!

A semi-famous musician (God Bless the USA) used to live near here - not so nice!

Re: John Travolta - a male relative is a massage therapist at a high end resort ... while JT was filming, he became his therapist of choice - I'll just say, the relative was more than a little uncomfortable!

If Mickey Gilley counts then I'm in. Some friends and I (who were 15,16) were outside of a bowling alley that was next to a theatre in the freezing cold and there was a tour bus. We'd heard Ronnie Milsap (liked him!) was performing so we were gawking. The bus driver took pity on us and asked us onto the bus. It was Mickey's bus, not Ronnie's. The driver had porn on (I had never seen THAT before ) and a few minutes later when Mickey got on he was very, very friendly and very, very loaded. He kept trying to give us beer and the driver kept saying no, they can't drink. We got off the bus pretty fast.
Sigh. Wish my story was Denzel!

I enjoyed reading everyone's posts (especially the PP who gave John Travolta shopping advice--swoon!!). I'm impressed.
I've never had a conversation with anyone who was/is famous. Not one, ever.

I think you might mean the Oscar-winner Shirley Jones? (Shirley MacClaine, another Oscar-winner, is Warren Beatty's sister).

I had a great conversation with Garry Marshall(directed "Pretty Woman", etc.) and the next day, when I saw him again, he remembered my name! What a great guy.

If you ever want to read a funny book about show business read Marshall's "Wake Me When It's Funny"....truly hysterical.

agnes!

not sure if this counts.

but we were extras in "a christmas story" & we stood next to Peter Billingsly for over 3 hours while they filmed the window scene. so we talked in between takes.
stuff about the movie & how freakin' cold it was (18 degrees) . he did say he liked to play golf. even hung out in the bank where "they" went to get warm & took pictures.
he was really nice.

(wished I could have met the other actors.)

I met hillary clition at a teachers convention. I was so so close I touched her shoe.
I met the band skillet and got a hug from there lead singer and birthday wishes from them all
I met tony perkins from good moring american and had a long chat with him at the HRC in Dc.

By conversation I mean a real conversation not just exchanging pleasantries like would happen at an autograph session or book signing.

Me - nope.

Yes a few. DD is an actress so i have met some famous people. While waiting on sets when she was under 18 i had to be there with her. Have had nice conversations with everyone listed here.

sorta. when I was 15 I saw JOEY JEREMIAH! waiting in line to get a drink in the airport in Toronto. now, you might have to be Canadian to know who JOEY JEREMIAH is, and honestly, I can't even remember his real name now!!! hahahahaha!!!

last year I met Andrew Firestone and his gorgeous wife in the airport in SFO. I recognised him, he was pacing in this odd way, he expected to be recognised, so I got a picture with him. well first I said I was trying to be as discreet as possible! I should have asked for his wife to do one with me as well. that woulda been fun! oh well. it was on my FB page but nobody "got it", it just looked like I was posting a picture of me and some random semi good looking guy with my daughter and my preggo self :P

Yes, believe it or not, for all their "kookiness" they are indeed very nice people, just the same on or off camera, the kids don't even notice when the cameras are rolling, or they're just so used to it. I really didn't want to like them, lol, but I couldn't help myself, the kids are so polite and adorable and Michele is a sweetheart. Jimbob is nice, but kinda ditzy and scatterbrained, i think they had this several week roadtrip planned out and trying to stay on schedule with that many people and events was probably overwhelming. I didn't know them before they came to our area to film for their show, in fact, I emailed and invited them and never expected to hear from them. Well last May/June I got a call on a Friday from Jimbob himself saying they would be here the following Monday! Boy, did we have to scramble to hook up an itinerary for them! If you saw the show where they went to Amish Country in Ohio before going on to DC, that was the one. I work to promote tourism here so that's why we invited them. They were here Sunday evening and all day Monday, but only about 15 minutes actually made it in the show, I think I got about 10-15 seconds of airtime. :rotfl: It was funny when that show aired, my teenage daughter's cell phone started ringing with her friends saying, "your mom is on tv!"...she wasn't too impressed though. I haven't talked to them since they were here other than a few emails, but I do have an open invitation to stay with them if we ever decide to go to Arkansas!

I did see that episode, but to be honest, I have no idea who you were in it. ;)

For some reason, I have this weird fascination to meet the Duggars. And I feel I would be all star-struck if I did see them...and I know they're just regular people. I love watching their show because it's so refreshing to see a family that isn't so Jon-and-Kate like.

I've grown to love the Duggars. Thanks for your reply! I appreciate it.

Will Smith. My aunt taught him when she was a teacher at Overbrook High School and was close to him and his family. He was at a family crab party (we have had one every August for years on top of years), I was like 13. We talked for a while about a whole lot of anonymous crap. I can't even remember. I know he said something like "and stay away from them boys. We're all dirty. No good." jokingly.

:faint:

Hottest. Guy. Ever.

If I wasn't married, I would so kick Jada to the curb.

I'm famous in my own mind, and I talk to myself all the time. So yes.:rolleyes1

This tickled me.

Did you get close enough to sneak your foot over so you could touch her foot, or was it just an accident?

My BIL did. He was doing a research project for Alec Baldwin-years ago . He was buying property on a coastal island off NorthCarolina and wanted research on the water and coastal contamination-BIL was the local Coastal Research scientist at the University. My sister said it was so weird to open the email and see one from him!;)

They filmed all the episodes of Dawson's Creek in their city-Wilmington NC has a Movie studio-and neeeded a whole greenhouse of orchids for one episode. BIL is the president of the local orchid Association-so he chatted with the Now Mrs Tom Cruise!
