Have you ever cut a holiday short and come home early?

We did once when we took the kids to a water park when they were very little. We had already spent the day enjoying the water park, and would have had to check out the next morning anyway, but had planned to spend the night in the hotel. After attempting unsuccesfully to get the kids to sleep for hours, we finally just packed up, checked out, and drove home. We figured we'd be too exhausted to wake up before check out time if we ever did manage to get them to sleep.

My husband and I were very close once. We were taking a trip to WDW - just the two of us- for a combo 40th birthday. He got very sick the first night we were there. And then we got bad news regarding my daughter's adoption appeal and all I wanted to do was go home. We looked at booking a flight, renting a car but it was either $$$$$$$$ or would get us home the same day we were scheduled any way. I ended up eating too much ice cream and drinking too much wine.

Not me but my parents did about 20 years ago.

They flew to San Francisco for a vacation and when they landed they found out that my grandma had taken a turn for the worse so they caught the first flight home. They like to call it the time they flew to San Francisco for lunch lol

Ohhhh, I am so sorry to hear about the bad news about the adoption and the grandmother!
That must have been really tough.

Yup, we took a 4 night weekend with the kids to various places in Wisconsin, and the last two nights were at Great Wolf Lodge. We were planning on staying there the entire day the day of checkout, and leaving for home at about 5pm.

We woke up the morning of checkout and the news was abuzz with an incoming snowstorm that was supposed to bring about a foot of snow. Roads were going to be going from bad, to worse, to hazardous, to impassable as the day progressed. We looked outside and the flurries were just starting to cover the ground. DH and I talked about it and decided that since it wasn't going to get better, we should head out sooner than later.

Bummer. I still wish we could have stayed the whole day. That trip was the most fun trip we ever took with the kids. It was a shame that we had to cut it short.

We did this past October. My nephew and I left Disney World early because of the hurricane. We were supposed to fly out Saturday night and flew out at the crack of dawn Thursday. It wasn't worth it to have the rest of the family at home worrying about us if we stayed. Still bummed as we missed a lot of great meals and didn't get a chance to ride a few of our favorite rides.

As it was the pilot made the announcement before take off that it would be rough as the first bands were starting to hit. Not a fun couple of flights home.

Yep, twice. We were at WDW when the first World Trade Center bombing happened. My husband worked there as a P.O. We came back from the park to put the kids down for a nap not knowing what was happening at all. We put the TV on and saw the news. We were glued to the TV. My husband saw people he knew being carried out, the chaos going on and he could not relax after that. We were due to drive home the next day but he was so upset we packed up and drove straight home to NY. Ironic thing was he was supposed to be at work that day but we were having such a good time he called work the day before and extended our stay. Ever since that day he wore a tiny MM pin on his badge holder.

The other time was when we were at the beach a few hours from home and the weather was horrible. Pouring rain for the 3 days we were there and forecasted for more rain in the days ahead. We just cut our losses and headed home. Good thing we did....one of our kids (who was not expecting us back) was in the midst of planning a big party!!!

Yep on Thanksgiving to visit my in Laws in Pittsburgh. We live in STL. My uncle was in the hospital and took a turn for the worst so his family pulled the plug. I called and changed our plane tickets and a day later we came home for the funeral.

A couple of times. The first time was when the boys were young and they were acting up so bad I put them in the car and drove back to Illinois from Colorado in the middle of our planned stay. The second was about five years ago when we were on a camping trip in Missouri and got word that our Beagle had become very ill. We had just arrived but we turned around and went home.

Once, when DH's work called and said they desperately needed him back early---we could have the vacation days back already used (just two, I think) and they'd pay the airfare so we could afford to fly out again when he could stay. Luckily we were able to cancel hotel with no penalty

I treasure every second of my vacations and typically get home as late as possible. One time we took my FIL on a week's road trip. First half went well...then our minivan got broken into in a parking lot in broad daylight and our laptop and GPS was taken. Cue DH flipping out because I insisted we not bother to stop to drop off our stuff where we were staying before we went sightseeing. FIL started grumbling. The next day, it started raining. Rain, rain, rain at our next stop (where we had planned to spend our time boating). FIL grumbled some more. Moving onwards, it continued to rain. With more rain in the forecast for the next couple of days, my FIL's grumbling increased and he started insisting we go home early (we were visiting HIS children!). I stayed quiet and wasn't rude to FIL, but I think I pretty much pouted the whole way home. Took MANY years before we invited him on vacation again.

I've learned that if I take him somewhere, that a certain portion of the trip needs to be a combo of some firmness to ensure we get our wants and yet some flexibility to cater to his wants. He has zero understanding of why someone would want to do something he doesn't have any interest in doing.

Only once. We went to Myrtle Beach for my daughter's dance competition. She was only scheduled to dance one day but we thought we'd make a week of it and enjoy the beach. The place I booked got good online reviews but it was one of those buildings where you rent through a common property management company but each unit is actually an individually-owned condo. You got to choose the floorplan when booking, but not the actual unit. Our unit was AWFUL. I am *not* a germaphobe and I wouldn't sit on the couch without a sheet over it. To top it off, on the day my daughter danced, we came back and our unit's door was propped open and nobody was inside. Apparently the housekeeper had propped it open and forgot to close it (thankfully I don't think anything was taken.) I said "I don't want to stay here anymore. Let's go home." (And I *love* the beach. I would definitely tolerate less-than-ideal accommodations to be close to the beach, but this was gross.) The official policy was that they had a week minimum stay, but after I got the manager up in our room, he did not give me a hard time about checking out after 2 days and getting a refund for the remainder. I will never stay there again, although I will acknowledge that all the other units that we saw through open doors looked MUCH nicer than ours.

DW & I came home early from San Antonio due to bad weather.

I left 1/2 day early from a hunting trip in Colorado after basically falling/sliding down the mountain the previous day. Was supposed to hunt one final morning & head out that evening. Instead, I broke camp & headed home as soon as I woke up. As it turns out, that was a good move. Hit snow crossing Monarch Pass and I was just an hour East when I heard that the highway patrol had closed the pass. I would have been stuck for a couple days.

A few years ago DH and I left our beach vacation a day early. It was a Saturday to Saturday rental. Most of the week the weather was fine, but it rained heavily all day Thursday, and the forecast was the same for the next few days. So we packed up and left Friday morning.

Before exH and I were married, some friends invited us to their campground for a 3 day July 4th weekend. It was miserably hot and I wasn't at all enthused about going in the first place. After a horrible day and a half, I just couldn't handle it any longer. We apologized to the hosts and they understood. We went back in the early fall and it was much nicer, but I'm really not a campground kind of girl.

We went to a campground near Pittsburgh one Summer and it was non stop raining for a few days, we had enough so we left.

We left Vegas a day early last month cause we just weren't feeling it. We saw everything we wanted to see and do in the 2 days prior. Luckily, we left early beach our daughter called in a panic that her car was broke down and it was on a really cold night.
Disney has ruined us for other destination vacations because we kept making comparisons. For example, most of the escalators were broke

Once when I was 5,the summer before going into Kindergarten.
My parents and I had gone to my aunt's house 3 hours away for the weekend.
I ended up having chicken pox and we had to go home. Calamine lotion was my friend lol.

But as an adult, every time, stuff happens. Nothing that had made me come back home though.

When I was a kid we did a vacation to the Florida Keys. We drove all the way down from Orlando and ended up only staying one night- a tropical storm ended up moving in and my dad thought it best that we left.
