Hi all: I was hoping to get a little info. on this newly advertised trip for members. I was going to call MS but the children will home soon and its hard to be on the phone during homework/snack time.

Do you know the points required?
Do you know the cash price?
Do you know the number of spaces available?

We have been desperately wanting to do this trip but the $$$ has kept us away. However, a DVC exclusive trip with the "extras" might push over the edge to commit. Plus it is during labor day week so the kids would only miss 4 days of school (our school system allows 15 days missed per year) but that could make DL horribly crowded.

Thank you so much for any info.!! :goodvibes

I just read about it in the ABD forum so I checked the member website and it is listed in the "News" section on the homepage. There appears to be a couple of extra things that aren't on the regular Backstage tour. I noticed that there would be a tour of the Kodak theater and a couple of other things. it sounds like soooo much fun! Enjoy your Jan. 09 trip!!:)

There was a wonderful 1 page (front and back) flier that came with the Spring edition of the Disney Files. I received mine today. ABD in this case stands for Adventures by Disney. Unfortunately for me, ABD is also my status in the Ph.D. program at Auburn University - All But Dissertation, but I digress.

Anyway, the package looks very tempting.

One side of the flier is a full page picture of a family looking at a parade float behind the scenes. The float has Gepetto and puppet strings. You can see Ursula in the background.

The other side has the details.

It is an ABD trip exclusively for DVC members. It is an "unprecedented special edition" of the popular Backstage Magic guided vacation in Southern California for September 2-7, 2008.

Highlights include:
  • A visit to Hollywood's historic El Capitan Theatre and a backstage look at the set of "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
  • A visit to the Jim Henson Company studios and a visit with a puppeteer
  • Privately guided tour of WDW headquarters and WD Studios
  • Behind the Scenes tour of Disneyland Resort complete with VIP experiences at both themparks
  • Accommodations at fine Southern California hotels including DGC
  • Exclusively for DVC:
  • Visit to Walt Disney's famous barn at Griffith Park
  • Tour of HOllywood's Kodak Theatre
  • Inside look at the development of a Disney Vacation Club Resort
  • Private tour of the Walt Disney Archives

I'd personally love to visit the archives !

Thanks Mickey'sapprentice! We have not yet gotten out Files mag so I did not have all these details. DH told me last night to book it! Of course, he is not the one who pays the bills so I have to ponder the cash flow a little harder. I want to do this so bad it hurts and our kids are dying to do this.

BTW - we are at the University of Georgia, small football rivals with the Auburn Tigers! ;)

The late release "might" be tied to the fact that this itinerary has not filled as expected. One date has been canceled and there is an extra incentive to TAs to book this tour. Could it have been that the fall dates were not filling up very well and thus they decided to make one of them for DVC rather than risk an empty tour?:confused3

Hey Global Mom:

I agree this does sound great! For us, we've not been able to justify the cost of ABD. All of the packages seem to be about 50% overpriced for me, but I can be a cheapskate. One of the Disney specials on TV visited the archives. WOW! This would be a fantastic trip. Its all a mute point for now as I finish school. Speaking of school, I've been an Auburn student for about 4 years now, but a Bama fan my whole life, so wareagle - I Guess, but ROLL TIDE ROLL!! in my heart.

(I better not say that much. I don't want thrown out of the program.)

The mail out did not mention any discounts. It only mentioned what you would get including the exclusive DVC offerings. My thinking is that there is NO DISCOUNT.

The rates listed by ABD are:

Early Booking - Adult $2,239; Child $2,019
Regular Booking - Adult $2,799; Child $2,519

You can use DVC points to book, and I think this one is 300+ points per person, and you can mix your group with points and cash, (i.e., you pay cash for yours and book the wife on points.)

Finally, the mail out said...

"To learn more, or to book this unprecedented vacation offering, call Members Services at ..."

Again, its too rich for my blood.

A Bama and Auburn fan!?!?!?! Oh my, oh my. What can I say to that other than: GO DAWGS! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

I am going to call tomorrow to get the price details and I will let ya'll know that they say. I really want to do it, and DH says "go for it", but I having a really hard time justifying the cost since we are a fam of 5.

I know this is not about ABD, but I'm not really an Auburn fan. I just go to school there. I couldn't let that pass. That would be like confusing a Yankees Fan for a BoSox fan, vice versa for all you non-southerners out there. Oh yeah, and again...ROLL TIDE!

That good news that you only pull for Bama, it would just be too much if you cheered for Bama and Auburn teams!! ;)

OK - back on topic, I am going to call this morning for the pricing and I am sure that I wil then be depressed for the rest of the day as it will be astronomical. My calculations bring it to about $10,000 just for the tour then add air, extra nights, food and misc. and I would say that this is a $15,000 trip!:scared1:

I think you're right. I was shocked to hear one had been cancelled already. Now, I know it's very expensive, and it's US, but I really think that for all the extras you are getting and the things you can't buy we get to do, that this would be a popular tour. The things that are offered on the DVC trip that I don't believe are offered on the regular trip that I will really miss are the Archive visit and the DVC presentation, and that will probably deal alot with the Grand Califonian Villas (duh..since it's in California..can't fool me)

If we had any of the kid still at home we could not do it. As it is, our tour is at Value time and we got the early booking discount, so our price was $2,079 each. We're on the Jan 13-18 tour.
