I have used them multiple times for Disney and elsewhere. They are owned by Expedia (along with Orbitz). Cheaptickets used to be the cheapest (make sure to check the coupon codes too) but lately I've found Orbitz to be the same price or extremely close (again, check coupons) and you get "Orbucks" which you can apply to future bookings.
As far as room, yeah, I agree that you don't always get the best room when you book through these....but I'm also not paying top dollar so I don't go in expecting a the most desirable room location or unexpected upgrading/"pixie dust". Most decent hotels shouldn't vary that much room to room as far as amenities etc but I do think you're more likely to be placed in a less desirable location vs. someone booking direct (and paying more). With the exception of one experience in Vegas I've never had much quibble with the room I was given via these kinds of sites. Being courteous and pleasant at check in never hurts either.
