Have you been to WDW on New years?

When does the crowd thin out? This upcoming year, New Years is on Thursday. Would the heavy crowds go through until Sunday? Or do they magically disappear on Jan 2?

Thanks

We were there this past New Year's. We noticed the crowds diminishing greatly by Friday. On Monday the crowds were non-existent. We went to IOA on Friday and noticed the crowds were less there than at WDW. We left on Wednesday, and enjoyed quite a few days of fun, crowd-free days. I didn't take notes this trip, so I am going from memory. So, I would say you could look for crowds to start tapering by Saturday and Sunday. People will probably take those days for travel days.

We were in the MK 1/1/2000. It was a quick day trip and we had heard crowds were horrendous the day before...traffic backed up for miles on I-4, can't get in the parks, etc. When we arrived, we were ecstatic to see no crowds!! Hooray! I guess everyone was sleeping off their New Year's celebrations?

We were at MK 12/31/99 and it got packed at around 11am. We got in at 7:30am (those were the days!) and jumped on everything at Fantasyland. On 1/1 it was still a little crowded but it was a Saturday, by Sunday we saw the crowds shrink and by Monday it was a ghost town!

Thanks for the replys.

I would love to hear from more people who have experienced New Years at WDW!

This year NYE falls on a Wednesday, with Thursday being New Years Day. Most children will not go back to school till Monday 1/5/04. We head back north on the 1/2 and BIL and his family will stay till 1/4.
My guess on park crowds is they will still be strong on the 1, 2 and 3. Each day will be lighter as more people head home, but I would not expect quite till the 5th.

We celebrated New Year's at Epcot this past year. (It was the third time that we've been at WDW for this holiday.)

We returned home on 1/4. It was busier than we expected it to be since most schools gave the kids that whole week off.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't "empty."

I hope that you don't have the monsoon rains that we had this past year. They still had the fireworks even though the rain was relentless. :(
