I don't normally follow long threads here on the Dis, so I don't know everything that has gone on in this thread (I'm new to it). However, I did a quick search of it to find out about WoodysRoundup. My heart goes out to you, WoodysRoundup. I've been in your situation so I can understand your pain. God Bless you and your family. If you need anything, please do not hesitate to ask. You have many friends here on the Dis who care about you.

BambiTamby, I found your post especially poignant. I had actually attempted to host my dinner party at the Poly. I even volunteered to switch my reservations around to include a concierge stay at the resort if an outdoor dinner party could have been planned (it would have been my family’s first stay at the Poly). Sadly, it just wasn’t in the cards. But everything worked out beautifully for my family and guests at the Grand Floridian Resort. A dinner party was most definitely in the stars for us at the Grand.

On the subject of wonderful parties, will you be getting any special desserts for your fireworks cruise? Please tell us exactly what you have on your dessert menu.

Bonzie1, thank you for your lovely description of the dinner party but I want more! I plan on "stealing" whatever Floridafam and you have written when I finally get around to writing my own report. ;)

Also, I want to add a photo link to the lovely table that was filled with the etched crystal mugs that Bonzie1 gave to everyone at the party that night. Floridafam has already spoken of Bonzie1's generosity. Seeing that table filled with a gorgeous mug for everyone completely took my breath away -- click here for photo. I hope to have a better picture to share soon.

As to Bonzie1 & Floridafam, besides being two of the kindest people I have ever met, they are the cutest -- click here to see their smiling faces. Aren't they gorgeous?

I have begun my trip report -- click here to view it. Pretty soon I should begin describing the Family Magic Tour that Floridafam treated my family to. Like Bonzie1, Floridafam's generosity completely took my breath away. The tour was magical. I hope my words and photos can do it justice.

First of all, THANK YOU everyone for the prayers & PD for my cousin. She has agreed not to make any life-altering decisions until she calms down. She is still very angry and bitter, but with God's guidance and all of your prayers, I'm sure she will find the strength to do the right thing. I REALLY did mean to PM those of you who were "reading between the lines," but was stricken with a bad case of bronchitis and have been an absolute slug for a week.

Janet2K your photos are beautiful! You are obviously a fabulous hostess - I would be so envious if I believed in envy!

Congratulations to all the LLs who have had good news & exciting events during the last week. You all have been so busy! I really missed "visiting" and can't wait to get back into the swing here.

BTW, Cajunfam, my DH golfs early (usually a 7 AM tee time) and he stops in the Poly lounge on his way out. If the coffee urns aren't out yet, a CM will usually offer him a cup of coffee from the back, so I'm sure you could ask for one. It is kind of nice having the coffee maker in your room, but we hated the taste of the coffee made with Florida tap water, so you'd probably want to bring some bottled.

Wow! That IS very interesting story, Janet!!!
Well...they were certainly impressed with your spread at the GF!
Maybe this can give them some "ideas and inspiration" to do so next time they are asked!::yes::

As for the G1 desserts....what can I say?
I told Melissa and Marilyn.....cinderella slippers, Mickey Mousse bombs, the mickey jello with whipped cream, parfaits, dirt pots, and some vanilla ice cream!
Plus, iced tea, water, beer, Cokes, and Sprites for beverages.

Poor Vagal and her and my family...and moi!...will have to be rolled off the boat!:earboy2:
Love those pictures and reports about your wonderful party!

you three gals have gotten me excited about our cruise and safari...which I will post as soon as we return!:teeth:

steveanddonna...thanks for the update about your cousin!
And  to you....get better, girlfriend!
I love what you said about Janet....

Janet2K your photos are beautiful! You are obviously a fabulous hostess - I would be so envious if I believed in envy!

Donna...you said it perfectly! I just love how we all are so happy for each other and appreciative of our friendships.
Can't find that in any other "lounge"!;)

dreamflight...I got your PM! Thank you, sweetie!
And I love those purses! And those Dr. Scholl sandals! I have a pair with the flamingos on them! Just love them! LOL!

....the perfect shoes, purse and accessories!

Wow BT & VAGal...you all are next to go!! I am soooo jealous (sorry I wish I were a better soul, but I am the jealous and envious type! )

Donna...glad your cousin has decided to wait until she calms down to make any decisions. I have been in a situation where I have had to put my anger and hurt behind me for my child's best interest. That was ten years ago, and I truely believe that it was the right decision...especially when I see how my son is growing up to be a wonderful person. At the time though, it was a very DIFFICULT thing to do, so tell your cousin she is not alone! (I am also reading between the lines). My continued prayers for you and your famliy. Also, hope to see you in the lounge at the Poly during our visit. (I may run into your DH looking for a cup of coffee in the am! :teeth: ))

Woody continued prayers for your Dr. Appt. tomorrow!

Janet2K/Flfam/Bonzie1...I have truely enjoyed reading about (and viewing the pics) such a magical event! Thanks for sharing! I will be off to read your trip report when I leave here.

DF...where did your DD learn the steel drums...my DS is learning drums right night...want a set for Christmas (should be interesting
:hyper:) He would probably love the steel drums...at least I would!

Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday!

wow!!!...i finally went to see your pictures...
first of all, all of you are adorable.....
and what a beautiful party...
i'm still in the middle of looking at the pictures but i just had to post..
one thing, i'm really surprised...it looks like you had really few people...when i was reading the various posts i thought that you must have had zillions of guests....but this was a very intimate dinner party..
is there a minimum number?

Woody'sroundup>> Made some iced tea for you! Here is your magazine selection for today!
SteveandDonna>> Great news! You have also never left my mind!

BT and VAgal>> What can I say but... HAVE A BLAST! I know many of us can't wait to hear about all of your travels experiences! I just know you'll all have an awesome time!

KAC'smom>> Wish I could help, but I am in a similar quandry, and this was also supposed to be a less expensive trip!

Here is what I posted on the S/D thread, and I'd love opinions from here, also!
We're now in major quandry, DD has no opinion, nor will she say "Yes, I will be there!" for sure. DS doesn't want to change resorts since he doesn't want to repack (similar to cleaning a room, I am sure!) We currently have a split stay 3-3 (could be 2-4 the way I reserved it) Dolphin CL and Poly GV concierge, yet we're toying with the idea of the Contemporary Tower since we've never been! I know there are much more important things to worry about, but I am a DISer! The one thing we know for sure is we'll have great views/restaurants/pool/heavenly beds that will await us at the Dolphin! The other two would be new to us. Throw into the mix our great love for AKL and the fact we really do feel at home there! Last night I even dreamed of visiting the lounge and hearing welcome home from a few of the CMs! (One week left of school, I am obviously in crisis level! LOL)

HELP! Please! (I do know that I am the "mom" and what I say goes... so if split trip is still the vote, it will happen!)

Janet2k>> You are truly a lovely person and what a hostess! I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the posts and pictures from you, bonzie1 and floridafam! A truly lovely time was had by all and it is evident in the smiles in the pictures, and the posts written here to share with all of us! I have to tell you that your pictures of AKL are one of the reasons I had my first visit to AKL! I had sent the link to my mother when she asked about the resort. I told her she could pick anything and I would be paying. She picked AKL and the rest is family history! Three trips and I can't get enough of the place!

I had forgotten about the Steel Magnolia's quote! I love that movie! DF>> I ended up browsing through the DB site last night. I just added a few purses to my growing list! I think this coach girl just might be able to expand! I have been truly impressed this year by the shoes/handbags being shown. I think we finally have our girlie girl items back in full force!

Mouseteacher>> You do have one advantage, though. You know where your things are! They haven't walked off to an engagement or party!

Janet2K - Wow! You are an eloquent writer! I've been reading your posts, and trying to read your linked posts, I'll have to read some more later, but I'm enjoying your descriptions of trips immensely!

steveanddonna - So glad to hear your news about your cousin! What relief you must be feeling for those kids. Hope you are recovering from your illness - I had bronchitis last week, too, and I'm just now getting over it, had to take an expensive antibiotic, I'm so sick of taking drugs!!

BT - Your trip with your folks is getting sooo close, how can you stand it?! Your family and VAgal's are gonna have a great time with the cruise and safari, can't wait to hear your report!!::yes::

Debbie - LOL! I pm'd you about this very issue! I still think you'll have a great time at the Poly, that's where you should stay! Your DS will love the pool, and that lounge is fantastic! And, we found out on our last trip that moving from one resort to the other is not a big deal. We packed one suitcase with our stuff for the first 1/2 of the trip, and our second suitcase with the stuff for AKL. We unpacked one suitcase at the resort, and repacked our dirty clothes as we used them, so that on the day we moved, we just scooped up our toiletries and off we went, to unpack the second suitcase at the next resort. Hakuna Matata!!:teeth: It's really like having 2 trips in one!::yes::

Hey, everybody else in the lounge! Have a good Sunday!

Trying this for the first time. I write our team's website, yet I don't know how to post pictures to the web! *geocities won't let those files get posted to other locations*

For those who would like to look... the graduation photos *just a few* and those hockey pictures at the Joe I promised a long long time ago!* In any extended family pic, DH is the tall blond, I am auburn, DDad brown, his wife blond, my DD blond and DS looks like a 10 year old hockey player. I think DD's BF is in there too.

Here goes nothing

Allright, BT, that settles it. You can I are "cut from the same cloth!" Steel Magnolias is my all-time favorite movie! Any true Southern woman has seen it numerous times and can quote it at will. :teeth:

First... BambiTamby: thanks for the GREAT Welcome to LL!!!

Now, onto more Summer House Magic at WDW GF...

The official start of the Barbeque was 6:30, but Janet said we could come over at 6:00. Since we hadn't seen Janet + her family since last October, I wanted to squeeze in as much time as we could, so... off we went from POFQ to GF. Needless to say, we arrived more than early... around 5:15, but no problem, a girl can always shop right? (ha!)

Once in the GF Sandy Cove Gift Shop, we were peeking out at the party area. There were chairs filled with towels, people sitting everywhere in bathing suits, eating and laughing. "What's going on?" I thought. "Boy, if I was the one throwing the party, I'd be worried things wouldn't get done in time!" Can you tell I always have my fingers in the planning? I am never one to really relax... ever, and this time it wasn't even my party!

About 6:00 We saw Janet + family outside. We waited a few minutes more before going to meet them. Actually, I was wondering what she was going to say about all those people in the party area...

After the joyous "Hello...s" + hugs, the "How are you...s" + the "It's soo good to see you...s", I pointed over to the dishelved area my DH + I had seen through the shop window, with the towels, and loungers. Janet laughed and said, "Oh that's not our area... We're over here!" (So much for my worrying!!!) I turned and saw a beautifully set up patio area right next to the beach + themed to the hilt! We were secluded, far from the other GF guests.

It was complete with a salad table dressed with red + white checked table cloths set on the diagonal. The food dishes were arranged at different heights to add depth and contrast. There was even the skull of a longhorn propped up to add some Southwestern flair! In awe we moved our eyes to the grill area. This was complete with chef and "food, glorious food". You must see Janet's pictures. You can almost feel the heat of the charcoal, and smell the aromas! Our chef was very personable. My DH enjoyed so much speaking with him. As one of the head GF chefs, he's prepared food for many functions. I should have asked him for the grilled shrimp marinade recipe... Yum. We peeked at some of the offerings: T-bone steaks grilled to order, marinaded spicy shrimp, chicken, ribs, roasted corn in the husk, grilled vegetables... yes, all for 9 people. Not to worry, all uneaten food would be sent to a homeless shelter.

There was a small table set up with the etched personalized mugs from Crystal Arts MK. Then there was our dining table, set up right next to the patio rwall complete with a view of the lagoon, and the Polynesian. We even had a bartender all to ourselves for the evening. This area also had the coordinated barbeque theme of r+w table cloths. But believe me, there was nothing usual about this barbeque.

By then we had been introduced to Floridafam, her DH and her 2 children. How wonderful to feel right at home with new friends! I looked out over the lagoon, just thankful for the beauty of the evening and saw a boat in the distance heading towards the GF.

When I looked up again, it was closer... I couldn't believe my eyes, and asked my DH to get the camcorder. Then I leaned over th Floridafam's DD and said, "I see someone I think I know in that boat... I think you know him too." Well she looked at me and then at the boat. Then I cried out, "I think it's Mickey Mouse! It is, it is. Look!" Well the face of a child all lit up is just so precious. Sure enough, here came Mickey Mouse right up to the shore, + off the boat. He was our very special guest! This was the first time he made a trip across the lagoon in a pontoon boat for a party... What magic! And, we hadn't even eaten yet!

Hello my fellow LLs. I am enjoying the beautiful weather here in California. I am staying on Vandenburg Air Force Base visiting my daughter and her family. It was funny when we arrived to checkin at the Vandenburg Lodge, my son-in-law apologized because there is no concierge floor here!!!!
It is still a very nice suite of rooms. My 3 yr. old grandson showed up our first morning with coffee and Krispy Kreames saying, " My mom said you stay at hotels that have free breakfast, here it is!" It was so funny.
Staying on this base is beautiful and very inspirering. They even do the flag retreat at 5pm, like the MK!!!!:

I only have a moment right now and promise to answer all of you later, but Bonzie1 PM’ed me about her latest addition to this thread and I just had to read it. Bravo, Bonzie1! What a lovely, lovely write-up (I say as I furiously cut & paste your post and save it on my computer with the ulterior motive of stealing every word and using it in my trip report ;) ).

I have spent the past two days trying to compose the “pre-planning” portion of my trip report. Talk about time-consuming. I have done nothing but type & eat all weekend long (with the minor exception of when I had to leave the house yesterday morning to take my daughter to dance class). I am ready to throw in the towel and not complete the dang post. Too much stuff to share and I fear it will bore everyone silly. Arg!

BambiTamby, I just took a look at the BEO from my dinner party. Here is a partial list of the desserts that were offered (more desserts were offered at my party than were stated on the BEO):

Cinderella's Slipper Dessert
Mickey Mousse Bombe
Mickey JELL-O
Pudding Trifles
Dirt Pots
Mickey Krispy Treats
Warm Apple and Blueberry Cobblers

I thought it was pretty cute to have "Dirt Pots" offered to my guests at Disney's flagship resort. I got a big chuckle out of that. I can imagine my guests describing the dessert party to their friends back home (the following is tongue-in-cheek): “Yeah, Janet2k invited us to some swanky dessert party at the Grand Floridian Resort. Wanna know what was on the buffet table? DIRT POTS. Can you believe that? The gall! I was never so insulted in my life.”

I should note that my daughter said the Dirt Pots were delicious. I believe her. She’s a true connoisseur of Dirt Pots. She’s made them numerous times in the Grand Floridian’s Grand Adventures In Cooking Class, most recently just a week ago. I’ll post pictures soon. :D

DF - My DD helped me get a pic of her sandals - see if these are the same!

http://shop.skechers.com/shop/ProductBrowser?GENDER=W&INDEX=0&VIEWALL=FALSE&SORT=POPULAR&NEXTSHOE=1&STYLE=SANDALS&PRODID=679016&CAT=S&PAGE=/shop/product/default.jskx

Hey this is k&a&c's mom's dd. I put the link to the pic cuz for some reason it won't paste. The sandals should come right up, but if they don't then they are the khaki heatwaves-kauai. If you click on the first shoe in the list then they should come up in alternate colors.:bounce:

Debbie - Love your pics! What a beautiful family you have! Your hair is almost the same color as DD's!

goodferry - Loved your pics, too, your oldest DS's expression while standing near the princesses cracked me up! Looked like my DS when we took pics with Pooh! Your kids are adorable.:sunny:

  Room wave!!

Just a minute to say...ENJOY YOUR TRIP BAMBI AND VAGAL76

Woody Thinking of you and hoping for good news tomorrow.

Janet2K Wow. My vocabulary is letting me down. That was some event.... And your trip reports have never been boring....

To everyone who asked for pixie dust consider it sent. :wave2:

Well, gotta run. :wave2:

I am cracking up over the dirt pot comment! Janet, I think we're all on the edge of our chairs waiting for the rest. You will NOT bore us!

I can't see goodferry's pics! It goes to the site and all I have is a blank page. I'll try rebooting later.

KerryCM>> I bet that was the best room service ever, though!

KAC'smom>> Thanks! I have pics all over my computer. I just need to find them! Had I had the time I'd of changed their format from what my father sent over. He did a beautiful PDF file with music of the entire graduation, focusing on Natalie. I tried to upload the whole file but msn didn't like it. Most of her pics are there. The deck pics.. OH man I can't believe it looked that bad! That was pre deck wash (last week) and our real patio furniture wasn't even out yet! One of those "Watch what is in the background, will ya?" pics! The best part of the deck (and most of it) is facing the OTHER direction! LOL

I am ready for a dirt pot! Anyone else?

Debbie <---who still has to be up at 5am tomorrow morning and should be in bed by now!
