I actually find this quite offending. It disgusts me to no end how politically correct this country is. Every empire has its downfall if we are not careful this PC crap will be our downfall if we are not careful.

They didn't do it to be PC or not... they did it because it would make an interesting storyline, for what looks like a short story. So I wouldn't worry too much about Superman.

I too was going to ask how he became a citizen as well. I mean, he was born on another planet and ended up in Kansas. Consider if an astronaut from another country was up in the atmosphere and came crashing down in Iowa, gets out and says "I'm an American!" We'd go "Oh hell no! Get back from whence you came!"

I have the issue in question, and the story in question is a 6=7 page story towards the end that has nothing to do with the main story. With it being issue 900, there are a couple of extra short stories added as an extra. In this story Superman is more or less yelled at by a rep for the president because he attended a protest in another country. He did nothing but stand there to make sure no one is hurt. In doing this, the other goernments of the world claim he was there on behalf of the president to push american views. He renounces his citizenship because he is citizen of the world, not one country and he is here to help everyone, not just americans. In it he says he sees the bigger picture. Clark Kent is still an american, just not Superman. When this story was put in the issue, I do not think DC thought it was gonna be as big a story. If they had, they would have put of a press release on Tuesday before the issue hit the stands. Sometimes I think the media makes a big deal out of things.

IF DC continues with this storyline... sales of Superman comics in the US will likely suffer... I know my kids will likely be turned off by this when they see that particular story...

I don't see this as positive at all. It shows what the writer thinks of American views and Americans in general. If he is there to make sure know body is hurt, than he should just say so.

If this was not a magazine aimed at kids I guess I would not think it was as bad. IMHO it is not good to try to make a child think being loyal to a country is a bad thing.

Correct.. It IS his right. It's also my right to disagree with it, thus I posted this thread.

I think it does affect the United States. Every time someone with a bully pulpit spouts off and puts down the US in some insidious way, it does affect the country. Especially when writing a comic book. It could be taken as a low level form of indoctrination.

But it's not necissarily aimed at being negative towards the US. Go read the story before you decide you have any issues with it. It's actually conveying a positive message.
