But really, you didn't have to wait any longer as long as the line hadn't completely disappeared to the point that it was their turn to board. I don't understand why people get so impatient. The time you are waiting in line is no different if you are standing 2 inches behind the next person in line or 20 feet behind them as long as you aren't the next to board the ride. Why ruin your day and someone else's with such a minor problem? You're in Disney for goodness sake! Calm down, relax and actually enjoy your vacation.

I think it works just fine with one lane. Its the same thing just on a different scale (20 feet vs 1/4 mile, walking vs driving). You still don't get to your end destination any quicker, you still arrive at your destination, and you didn't get the person you passed annoyed.

In fact, more than one lane would pose a bigger problem as cars from those lanes would merge in and take up that space and slow down your arrival.

I would not have waited. You give up your spot in line when you stop to take photos. I would certainly never expect anyone to wait on me if I stopped like that (which is likely, me being a photo nut). In fact, I would be very likely to smile at the family behind me and say, "Please go on," if they looked like they were going to stop.

I find it depends on the queue. For example when walking into Pirates, lots of people stop for pictures and it's no issue to amble by but as you get closer and the queue narrows, it becomes an issue.

It seems to be all in the perceived notion of 'passing' someone which is more obvious with the thinner queue area. If the queue for TSMM had been four times as wide with lots of decor to pose with, I bet more people would walk past as there isn't really a formed line of sorts yet with an individual order.

Sorry, was just pondering all this as I went to answer the OP as in Pirates I would pass, but I don't know that I would in TSMM and I was trying to figure out why. It really is the queue sizing for me. If it feels/looks like I'm jumping a spot in line, I tend to wait or get confirmation it's ok. If it's just a group and there's meandering space, I keep on trucking.

Not to get too far off-topic, but I'm confused. Why go around then?

I envision the FP merge point as an intersection up ahead on a one-lane road. What is the advantage of passing the slowpoke in front of you if there are still cars between them and the intersection?

When there is no one ahead in line and it's moving along and folks stop for pictures, I think it's totally ok to keep moving past them. But in a line like TSM where you still have a 20 minute wait after the Potato head, I don't see where a family stopping to take photos is slowing anyone down behind them. The line is still backed up ahead of them...even if it advances 10 feet or whatever while they take their pics. I have had people do this to me in line when we took photos or paused to read something on a wall along the way...and I *never* get it. It's not like they walk right past us and board the ride...they just walk right past us and then find us right back behind them a minute later.

For a fast-moving line, I would consider them as having left the line. But if it's a slow-moving line, and you're not going to ride the ride any later than you would have either way, I would have either waited for them or told them you were moving along and they could have their places back when they were done. The Potato Heads are there for a reason. It seems kind of petty to get mad at someone who wasn't really keeping you from the ride, but just wasn't waiting in line the way you wanted them to wait (assuming, again, that their break didn't impact the time you actually got on the ride).

I would not have walked in front of them in line. There's still a way to go in that queue and honestly, even if they spent 5 minutes posing for pics, I would've waited. It stinks she threw a fit though and probably could've handled it better. However, if people behind you see you passing her, they would feel like doing the same and she'd quickly lose her spot in line.

I know posing for pics is important and I need to be more patient while people get their best facebook poses on but it's annoying when they spend a long time on poses and there's a line behind them. So, I'd have felt like doing what you did. I'm always the one telling my kids "C'mon, people are waiting".

EDIT: I just read posts about the merging FP line and agree that if you can no longer see the back of the standby line ahead of her, I'd point that out then ask for permission to move ahead. At least that will get them moving along.

while in line at TSMM, the people in front of us were taking lots of pictures as the line moved along. No big deal as it is a great queue! However, when we got to Mr Potato head, they and 2 other groups stopped dead and were posing their kids for shots. I walked ahead of them as we were not taking pictures. The woman had a FIT!!!! Yelled at me, tried to stop my DD from moving ahead too, complained to a CM, glared at us the rest of the queue. To me, it was one thing when they were just taking shots in the line but totally different when you start posing for multiple pictures.

Should I have waited while they finished their rather lengthy photo shoot? Really ruined the night for me. I suppose I should have just let her have her way but she made me sooo mad!!!!

Honestly, yes probably. It would have been one thing, if you guys were at the point that the CM was going to put you in the row to get on the ride (then I'd say yes, of course ask if they're going now, or if they're waiting and then go ahead,) but if you're in the middle of the line, so obviously it's not like it's stopping the line in the long run of getting on the ride, then yes you should wait your turn. I know sometimes I get a little annoyed when ppl. don't stay close to the ppl. in front of them when we're in line, but step back and think about it...does it really matter? No, you're still in your same spot in line, and if they're taking pictures, I'd def. wait. I'm sorry the woman was rude to you after you went in front of her, but honestly, you were pretty rude, because you basically butt in front of her in line, for no reason.

I agree 100% but how does one put this in practice? How do you respond to the woman's outburst and anger? I'm just curious about how other people handle these heated situations.

Talking calmly rarely works since the other person is already fired up. Yelling just makes things worse and it's embarrassing to your kids. Calling a CM over seems like overkill. I'm thinking waiting patiently or pointing out the disappearance of the line are really the best actions.

I agree with this PP with the exception of the first ride in the morning - when picture taking would really hold things up. Other than that whats the difference between waiting by Mr PH, the map or the log cabin?

Actually, if you would ask any castmember, you cannot just pass because someone is taking a picture. As long as the line is not at the boarding point, it is still their place in line and you are behind them. When did people start losing all common sense? You aren't losing any time in line because I've stopped to take a picture. There are still the same amount of people in line ahead of you and the ride only boards at one speed. What, exactly, are you losing by letting someone take a picture? Really.....take a second and stop and think about it?
