I had a call from a company I applied for today to say they were extremely impressed with my application and the results of some assesments I did.

They asked me to complete one more set of online tests, but were so confident that I would do well that they provisionally booked me into an interview anyway, providing I did ok on these tests.

However, I have done THE STUPIDEST THING! I filled out the tests, was so pleased with my answers, but I've just realised something.

When I was asked to describe myself, the FIRST thing I wrote was 'enterprenuerial' implying that I am willing to take risks, be a team leader, be enterprising and help others.
However, I've just looked up what it means and I've misunderstood it slightly and therefore shouldn't have used it to describe myself.

I'm devestated! I can't believe I did that. I can only HOPE the person who reads it doesn't quite know what it means either, or realises that I might not have meant it in the literal sense.

Do you think if the rest of my application is good, that I'll still be asked for an interview?

You are a collage student, you are entitled to mistakes. I'm sure they'll either get a good impression off of it, laugh at it or not really even notice it... i'm sure you'll still get the interview. Good luck.

Thank you :goodvibes that's sweet of you to say.
I just spoke to a friend who agreed she would take it to mean creative and oppurtunistic rather than 'rich businessman'. I'm starting to feel calmer but its just such a shame I didn't notice it at the time because I did work so hard on it.

I would bet good money (even Disney Dollars) that 99% of the population believes that the definition is exactly what you meant it to be. And since most people who would be in a position to "grade"/criticize this test would expect that they do know what such a commonly used word means they would never second guess themselves by actually looking it up. Don't loose any sleep over this!!!! I"m sure you did just fine.

Should have looked it up before you put it on the application. The first thing I thought of when I saw it was an entrepreneur. Attention to detail when applying for a new job is critical to their first impression of you.

Yuck, I know :guilty: I'm so accustomed to writing and using big words that I rarely even think about looking things up. I should have been more careful. Strangely enough I re-read it and re-read it, but for some reason that didn't stand out to me.

They may think that you are using big words just to try to impress them. If that's the case then it backfired.

What line of work are you in? Any place Calpitalistic at all would not mind your use of that word. I think the general usage is what you implied or even that you are willing to think out of the box to get results. If that company is interested in making money I don't think they would mind it!

They are enterprenuerial themselves, right?

i guess so yes, it is a recruitment company, which is essentially sales and communications based. I can't see it being a bad thing if they take it to mean creative and flexible, I'm just concerned they'll catch on that I didn't quite understand the meaning.

So, what sentence did you use it in? I guess it's hard to know if it will look stupid or not without the context.

Well, that's just wonderful, dear. But remember, it's important to know what those big words actually mean before using them. :goodvibes

The question was simply : 'how would you describe yourself'

I started with 'I consider myself to be entreprenuerial' and then carried on to give (i think) quite a good list of other qualities.

At least I know they'll be calling tomorrow so I'll know either way then.

Well then, I don't see how they would have any idea if you didn't really use it correctly. I think you will be fine. In that context, I would personally assume you meant you were a self starter and had creative ideas that you weren't afraid to go after.

And yes, I used to hire people.

Thank you Julie :flower:

I'd be more concerned that you misspelled the word myself.

Well, I got the interview!

Furthermore, what's really crazy is that I have been doing some reading in advance of my interview and it says 'to work for our company you must have....euntreprenurial skills!!!!!!

I nearly fell of my chair when I saw that!

So anyway, interview is on Monday. I'm so nervous! It's the last stage in the whole process so I will find out if I've been successful by the end of next week. That just seems crazy......

I think you did fine with the definition. I doubt most people would bother to look it up for the exact meaning, and just see it as another positive way you describe yourself. It's so cool they describe the perfect candidate as having entrepreneurial skills. But I agree with Bob - double check your spelling.

Congratulations on getting the interview! Good luck on getting the job.

Shame on me, I was thinking the same thing, but hoped it was just a typo here and not on the application.

I am really really hoping that it was just a typo here.

I am a spelling freak and have learned to be forgiving of the DIS boards over the years :rotfl:

I didn't! I spelt it perfectly on the application. It was just a typo here. Actually I'm a spelling freak too, I was just typing that post in a rush.
