Have a good one!

Leave it to the Dis to complain about a greeting where someone is just trying to be nice! lol I don't get it.

I was not complaining. Did you even read my post? I was wondering if anyone hears it as much as I do or was it a New England thing. Leave it to the Dis to complain about someone complaining when they did not!

Sooo....judging by another post, the ultimate would be:

"Hey, have a good one, toots"

;)

Doesn't seem strange to me... I guess it's something I'm used to hearing. I've worked in retail and banking my whole life and I guess you just get used to hearing other variations of the repetitive "thank you and have a nice day" routine. It gets monotonous very quickly, so you find a way to switch it up.

I'd lay odds that the person saying this generally works the night shift and is just used to saying "have a good night". Been there, done that.

LOL! I didn't realize how many things bugged people until I joined the Dis. :rotfl:

:worship:

I thought they were referring to the posts that followed yours. :upsidedow

I don't hear it often.

It's HUGE in the south. However, it rolls off the tongue more like "Have a good-un".

I live in South Florida...I would be thrilled to get a grunt after a transaction. Or an acknowledgement. A clerk telling me to have a good day/one/whatever would be unsual and very welcomed! I am usually the one saying, "Thank you, have a good day!" And yes, I sometimes say, "Have a good one!":goodvibes

The strange one for me is to hear "have a good night" and it's 10:30 in the morning or some other time before 5pm. Weird. :upsidedow

I used to work a job where sometimes I worked early morning (6am -2pm), sometimes I worked afternoons, and sometimes I worked evenings (3pm - 11pm). We were supposed to tell customers "thank you" and "have a nice day/afternoon/evening". Most of us started saying "Have a good one" after a while because with our varying shifts, we'd ALWAYS end up saying "Have a good morning" at 9pm, "Have a good evening" at 7am, etc. and that just seemed weird. So "Have a good one" it was... a good afternoon, a good morning, a good evening, a good weekend, a good holiday, whatever. People didn't look at us funny anymore because we weren't saying the "wrong" thing.

Be happy that the clerk was at least talking to you, lately I've seen so many that don't speak AT ALL, it's ridiculous. If the clerk is polite to you, who cares if it is "Have a good day" or "Have a good one"??? But yes, I get annoyed without the "Thank you" in there some where, and at least some sort of greeting.

I say that all the time. "Have a good day" sounded too cliche to me. I always say "have a good one" when a neighbor is getting off the elevator before me.

I use it a lot, and I never really gave it any thought until I saw this thread.

I say this all of the time, just out of habit. To me it means, have a good day.
