We have never rode Haunted Mansion at MK. Is it scary? Can someone describe the theme/ride for me?

It isn't so much scary as silly, but there are parts were it is very dark or when some kinda scary heads pop up out of nowhere (the attic and graveyard). It may be intense for young children, but overall it's very fun. You enter the Mansion and are led into a 'stretching room' with portraits that seem to stretch up the wall. You then exit there and get into a small que line for the ride. You ride in 'doombuggies' which are just slow moving ride vehicles, and listen to an audio track by your 'Ghost Host'. You proceed through the mansion. At first you don't really see any ghosts but they start to appear as you move on (such as in the famous swinging wake ballroom scene). The ride culminates in a graveyard and then you are shown a hitchhiking ghost and you are done. I would very much recommend it. :goodvibes

You just travel through a Mansion that is haunted. Very smooth ride, not (IMO) one bit scary. It is a TOP fav ride for many going to WDW! The lines can be long at times. The CM's at the Mansion are wonderful as keepers of the haunted mansion. Just OBSERVE their entire demeanor! There is a lobby you go into where they open the doors to the Mansion and ask everyone to come in....as people are entering they then ask us to "PLEASE STEP INTO THE DEAD CENTER OF THE ROOM"......get it "dead" center....

It is GREATTTT!!!

AT the very end, a GHOST will get into your seat with you....ssshhhh!!! I am not telling you how...it is fun...

Also, there are HIDDEN MICKEYS all throughout the Mansion...ssshhh!!!! You will need to look for them!!!

Not scary at all for adults. I rode this when I was a kid (too many years ago). It did not scare me when I was a kid and it did not scare my kids our last trip (DD was 22 months and DS was 8). DS was a little scared in the room where you wait before getting in your Doombuggy. Room was dark and crowded -but I think it was really the anticipation. The Imagineers did a great job on this ride. Is it holograms to depict the ghosts? There is one part that is really cool but I don't want to give it away.
I don't know if I am allowed to say this and please MOD delete if not but I found that the Unofficial Guide really gives good descriptions of the rides at all the parks. You may want to invest -- I myself have used Birnbaum's Official and DW with Children but this book was better. Also, if you have kids, you may want to watch Disney's Haunted Mansion before you go.

Nope, no holograms. :) The technology used is very old and surprisingly simple. :D
