Haunted Mansion too dark

I have been to the Haunted Mansion twice.
The first time it was at night, and it was great. The second time, it was in the middle of the day and it was so bright outside that my eyes never had a chance to adjust.

I had to hold on to my husband all the way through the Stretching Room and the queue. I could barely see a thing on the ride!

Does anyone else find this annoying?

Me neither. It is dark in the stretching room - pitch black all the time once they turn off the lights. But I never had any difficulty seeing in the ride.

Did you forget to take your sunglasses off, lol? Just kidding!

I don't think I've ever heard anyone complain about this before. All haunted-house type rides are dark - they're supposed to be dark! It adds to the spookiness.

My eyes usually adjust quickly once we're in the stretching room, but the first few seconds can be a little disorienting.

Never noticed either. Maybe your eyes are just particularly sensitive? My mom's eyes can be like that. She needs sunglasses even on cloudy days.

I agree that ride is pretty dark. I suggest to keep sunglasses on while in line and take it off as you enter the building, maybe this will help to adjust.

My eyes adjust fine when I go in during the day, but at night I can see things on the ride much better. There definitely is a difference.

I can be really sensitive to brightness. I try to look down or to a shades area as I transistion from indoors to outdoors. It might sound funny but it works well for me and after having done this for years and years it a natural habit now.

Perhaps you should visit an eye doctor (seriously).

It's pretty dark in there, but I think that's the desired effect. There are things you actually see, and then there are the things where the limited light adds a dimension of mystery. :earsboy:

Oh, I'm not complaining about it being dark! The ride is perfect IMO.

I actually did get my eyes checked :thumbsup2 and the doc said they were okay. But I don't have the greatest night vision.

I will try the sunglasses in line trick. Maybe I'll have my husband blindfold me for a few minutes before.

Did you know that pirates wore eye patches so that they could see below deck better? It was so dark down below and so bright above that to go from bright to dark made finding anything down there super hard. So they wore the eye patch over one eye and when they went down below they would uncover the one eye (which was already primed for the dark) and switched it to the other eye. Once down below they eye that had been covered previously was ll set to see in the dark. They did a whole show about this on mythbusters....fascinating!

That said, you should try to shield your eyes while on line outside the ride so by the time you get in, the rods and cones in the back of your eye are already primed for seeing in the dark. Like a pirate.

Arrr matey!

I think some people's eyes just adjust at a different rate or are more sensitive...or something. It takes my eyes a lot longer than it seem to the others around me, so I usually hang onto my DH for a bit until I can see well. I remember walking outside on a date when I was in my early 20s. My date could see enough to at least stay on the walkway though there was no light, no NOTHING. I couldn't see anything so I had to hold onto him until we got around some lights again. It was SO weird.
@ OP, hang onto someone you're with for a little bit of you can. It's what I have to do. ;)

I'm one of those people that has sensitive eyes. I have to wear sunglasses when its cloudy and depending on the brightness, even when its raining due to glare. I always wear my sunglasses until I pass through the doors to the HM and it seems to really help. Good luck next time!!!

I'm the same way. My eyes are sensitive and I wear sunglasses even when it's cloudy.

I'm OK with the Haunted Mansion, but in the PoC queue there is a place where you're going downhill in the indoor queue (where you turn around a corner) and that section of the queue is way too dark for me. I can't see the floor. I asked my family about it, and the level of darkness in that one particular spot wasn't an issue for them. That is the one place I wish there were just a little more lighting.

I have the same problem, but only between the stretching room and the doom buggies. I can't see the floor or the rails, and it's very disconcerting. Since I normally travel solo, I don't even have anyone to hold onto.
