Can't believe I've never had an occasion to need this information before:

If I were to wear a hat in WDW, would it fly off on some of the more "thrilling" rides? :-)

Trying to figure out a way to look "cute" in the parks, without spending primp time in front of the mirror in the pre-dawn hours. Hats are always a great way to do this, but if I were to lose one on, say, Expedition Everest, then I'd be walking around with hat head all day! Actually, now that I think about it, I'd probably just invest in a Disney hat - don't want to scare the tourtists, you know . . . :-)

This ever happened to anyone?

Any loose articles are prone to becoming airborne on the thrill rides.

Most CM's will remind you to take off your hat when you get on. You can either hold it in your hand, or stuff it in the compartment available to you in the seat.

I can think of a few rides where hats fly off...DH lost a few this way! Also, the trees, bushes and ground of Barnstormer is littered with hats.....and the ride will be over before you even know you are hatless!

You know what they say at Big Thunder Mountain:

"Hold on to them hats and glasses, cuz this here's the wildest ride in the wilderness!"

I usually put my hat on backwards or just hold it for most rides. RNR I stow as much as possible since you invert, and EE you have to watch it as you go backwards, so then your hat is facing forwards into the wind... :rotfl:

DH and DS are ball cap guys and wear one constantly. DH always has our backpack in the world and he just attaches their hats to the bp with a caribiner. DD always wears ears and she just puts her arm through the elastic strap while riding.

Well, dang. There goes that idea out the window - literally! :-)

Guess I'll have to see what I can do with a nice headband or two . . . Or as a last resort the good old fashioned pony tail. It's not about how you look, but how much fun you can have, right?! :-)

I always wear sun hats in the parks. As soon as I get on a ride, just tuck the hat into the mesh bag, or under my leg (doesn't work so well on ToT). Trust me, during a ride on EE, no one is looking at your hair! And you have plenty of time to jam the hat back on while you're waiting to get off the ride.

BTMRR ... I was in line and saw this guy's hat out there. So, sit on your hat or hang on to it!!

I was with a friend last October who lost his baseball hat on Splash Mtn. I always take my hat off on any of the thrill rides, just in case.

Dumbo hasn't lost his hat on the ride-

My adult DS always wears a ball cap on rides. He will turn it around during the ride so that the bill faces back so the wind won't get under it and take it off. This has worked so far. He lost it on Test Track but luckily it blew back into the car and he found it on the way out! If the hat fits snug on your head you might get away with it. Otherwise, put it in the netting and don't forget to gather those personal belongings as you exit and watch your head and step! :goodvibes

I wear a baseball hat every day at the Parks. I take it off when I get on a ride (like BTMR, Splash, Space, RnR, Kali, EE). I either stow it in the compartment, or sit on the hat. As soon as the ride is over, I put it back on. Been to WDW 8 times, and never lost a hat yet! And I won't go to the parks without one.

Just take it off for the ride, then put it on again! Your hair is blowing around on the rides so much that no one will notice! :thumbsup2

My DD put her her on the floor in front of her on ToT (like she was told to by the CM). Well, on the first drop the hat shot up, when we stopped, it hit the head of the guy in front of her. And he SCREAMED. We went back up, and on the second drop, the hat went up again... and when we stopped, hit hit the same guy, and he SCREAMED again.

It hit the same guy on EVERY drop.

After the rdie, we apologized to him (and asked him for the hat back, as it wound up in front of him.

He said, "That's your hat? I thought that was a special effect on the ride!" :rotfl:

My DH lost his hat on Splash Mountain a few years back. We went to lost and found later on that night to see if anyone turned it in. The cast member there told us that the hat probably went through the water filters there and was probably totally shredded. Oh well, I hate to be an I-told-you-so, but I did tell him to remove it before the ride started:confused3

I'm another one who lost a baseball cap on Splash Mountain.

I bought it, went on the ride, and lost it.

I filled out a form at the Lost & Found. About two weeks after I got home, I got a package delivered to me. It was the hat, with a huge grease mark on it.

My 9 year old lost her hat on Splash Mountain as we came down the drop, luckily it landed in the lap of someone in one of the rows behind us and they gave it back to her!

My DBF also lost his hat (his Norway hat from EPCOT that he loved) on Splash Mountain in November. It was his first time on the ride and he said he didn't know that there was a drop. Well, I told him it was a 50ft drop during the ride. I guess I should have specifically told him to take off his hat.
