"Hate Speech" or the Truth?

Sounds like truth to me, all you have to do is watch the news to see it!

She is free to speak her mind, but it's hard to swallow that site's claim of non-partisanship when they publish stuff like the "Durbinization of Gitmo." Ms. Gabrielle's politics are showing.

So would you suggest that she ignore the impact of Durbin's statements in the interest of "bipartisanship". What is said and done on the Senate floor is heard through out the world. What ends up on the front page of the New York Times is seen through out the world. Are we giving "aid and comfort" to an enemy who has never had it so good in their lives?

:rotfl: Nice spin attempt -- hope you didn't get too dizzy from it.

I find it more and more humorous that so many web sites lay claim to the banner of "nonpartisanship" while filling their pages with rather obvious partisan articles. That was my point.

For the record, I did not agree with Sen. Durbin's initial comments and I found his so-called apology somewhat lacking in sincerity. That said, he has the right and freedom to express his opinions, on the Senate floor or elsewhere, just like every other American does. I will not begrudge him or any one else that freedom.

OTOH, I find it a bit far-fetched for people to get worked up into a lather claiming that his comments give "aid and comfort to our enemies." That charge is ludicrous. And if being imprisoned on a small island separated from family and friends for years is truly "never having it so good in their lives", then maybe you'd jump at the opportunity to experience first-hand never having it so good yourself.

They were captured, many of them, away from their family and friends. They gave up the opportunity to be with them when they engaged in terrorism. Their goals are simple. Eliminate Western culture and establish a theocracy through out the world that is stalled in the 15th century.

As opposed to the theocracy the christian right wants to impose that is only stalled in the 19th... :rotfl: ...Yeah, they "hate us for our freedoms"...I forgot... :rolleyes1

What an absolutely ludicrous statement. One couldn't make this up! To compare the advances of Judeao Christian Western societies to the one that the Islamo Fascists, a la Taliban, have offerred up is no less than bizarre! You can't be serious! Yeah, the do hate our freedoms. They hate open societies, and you know what, they would even hate you despite your need to defend them. Amazing!

Actually, it's more like the 7th century, but who's counting?

I figured you'd fall back on the standard "they gave up their rights" argument. I didn't figure you would be willing to share the "never had it so good in their lives" experience... it's OK for them, but it's just not your cup 'o tea.

Just for the record, I am not opposed to Gitmo, but at the same time, I'm not going to join the whitewash brigade to make what is happening there seem like some Club Med vacation. If we are doing something right there, it doesn't negate or outweigh whatever has been done that is wrong. The prisoners there may be getting decent meals, bedding, Korans, exercise, etc, but they are still prisoners and their existence hardly rises to the level of "never having had it so good in their lives."

Um...It was a joke  Hence the :rotfl: smiley after the comment. As bad as the christian right is - and that's plenty bad enough - I'm not so ignorant as to think they're on a level with the taliban, no matter how much I enjoy making comments like that and imagining people like you with their eyes bugging outta their heads :teeth:

As to the second part...Yes, I'm sure you're right. People are strapping bombs to their chests and blowing themselves to bits to protest the fact that Sex in the City is popular half a world away... :rolleyes1 You're right...you just can't make this kind of stuff up...

I didn't find the joke funny given the events of today. For a joke to be funny there has to be some element of truth. Obviously you found some element of truth and therefore some "humor". I found it bizarre.

Posting things like this is just designed to stir up trouble... and then you get upset when folks don't agree with you.

Personally I find websites like the one that was linked to by the OP offensive. Hate mongering is not a good way to live and doesn't strike me as very Christian.

But... but... but they claim right on their web site that they are nonpartisan! :confused3

I am all for people speaking their minds, and I wouldn't label Ms. Gabrielle's comments as "hate speech." At the same time, this site, like so many others that lay claim to the nonpartisan label, mocks the word "nonpartisan." It's OK to have a particular political position. Lay claim to it and be proud of it (unless you're not). I just wish people would quit trying to wrap themselves in this guise when it is obvious they have a specific agenda to pursue.

That website is about as nonpartisan as Fox news. :rotfl:

I don't get "upset" when "folks" don't agree with me. I consider the source. I certainly think that Brigitte Gabrielle's experience of growing up in Lebanon, having to live on grass and search for water due to the persecution she felt from Islamic extremists as a Christian Lebanese may shed some light on the nature of the enemy. It might be useful for you to consider another point of view.

Sticking your head in the sand isn't a particularly good way to live either. Didn't we learn that lesson on 9/11?

Thanks for the warning... I'll just avoid her threads in the future.
