Hassan Told Me I can Rent my points!

I am new to this whole thing and am looking to invest in DVC. I was told by my rep. that you can rent the points. I am also looking at renting points until we can outright purchase a share. So if you would like someone to rent to I would be interested if everything is in order. I was told renting can go for any price you would like any where from 4 to 15 dollars per point.

Okay, who's been renting their points out for $4 a point. Please call me ASAP and I will rent all you've got. Thanks for that heads up :rotfl:

But Icy, can you trust renting now?

You won't be able to confirm your ressie, you would have to trust the Owner, isn't that too risky?

(I already know you would never use your Membership # to confirm another Owner's ressie for you, aas that would be a technical violation of the Renter calling MS policy!)

You braver than me, dude!

The obtuse point I'm trying to make here, gentle readers, is until recently Renters couldn't call MS to verify their ressies, the loss of this feature IMHO is nothing in the grand scheme of things. People who have a certain level of comfort will continue to rent, others will call CRO.

The DVC will continue, as will we all!

Due to early retirement and less income I am renting a few points this year to pay for plane tickets and I think I have the ultimate in level of comfort from the person I am renting to. I also rented to her a year and a half ago. I could not get all four days so we have a waitlist for the additional day. I told her on Mon
day(Nov ressie) she could wait to send payment until I sent the written confirmation and then if we get the last day she can send that also. Today I got an email saying she was putting a check in the mail this morning for all four days since she really thinks the waitlist will come through.

I don't know if your teasing or not. We rented a week in Hawaii from Redweek.com. The owner faxed me a copy of the reservation with his name on it for my timeframe, when I paid him, by Paypal. Then he faxed me a copy with my name. It was at the Westin, A Sheraton property, I called the 800 number and I was told that my reservation would not be transferred over to them until 2 weeks ( I think) somethink like that, before travel. This was almost a year prior to going. When the time came I called the 800 number and my name was there. I had booked all the Air, car etc. Point I am making, I didn't get to call Member Services and get a actual confirmation either and I was going to Hawaii from the East Coast. Even at check-in I was worried but I had a reservation. He was Chinese and didn't speak good English and I couldn't have a decent phone conversation. Most, probably would not have went. I have since emailed him and I will deal with him again. I think we can work around the MS call. What do you think? It does say we can rent to guests, It's the commercial renting.

Not certain I am as confident about the last day but will set the money aside so I can return it if it doesn't come through.

If I could actually get points for $4 each I would take all offered. However an Owner renting at $4 is actually losing money even if he bought when I did 14 years ago.

As far as calling MS I think a renter can still do this once they have a confirmation number. I know that MS told me to have my renter call and let them know their flight plans for the Magical Express Bus service.

I have had to call MS and make the Magical Express plans for a renter last week. The renter called twice and their call was not excepted. They were treated very nice and explained that this was a new rule. I received a email about it, from the renter, which was the first that I had heard about the new rule, at that point. Everyone was fine and all is good with the reservation.

Marylyn, haven't you been listening????? :sad2: Only members can call MS now effective this week. Should have been that way all along, but they are enforcing it now.

ONLY members can call MS now. I've read posts on the dining plan board about renters being unable to add the dining plan because MS said the member has to do it. They were told it's a new rule. I personally think it's a good thing. :)

Why is it a good thing that guests can't call and confirm or Dining or Magical express? Is it really that much time that they are spending to do it? It takes me the same to add this on as the guest. How is this saving member services any time?

As for only one transfer in or out....this ends a lot of flexibility and makes me wonder if I should buy the add on that I was considering from Disney. If I buy the same use year...then they lump it together and the one transfer in counts or out counts for both contracts. Shouldn't two contracts qualify for two transfers instead of one? Right now it counts as one. I was going to buy the same use year and to add flexibility I would need to buy a different use year, but then that would create problems when making reservations.

Has anyone else thought about this? Did I explain this well? Does anyone know what I mean?

Usually when a member calls, they give the facts, talk a minute or two and then they are off the phone. With what we have read on these boards, non-members start making requests, told they can't make them, they ask why,..... or they start asking about MS and the dining plan, what does it cover, where do they get the bus, can they bring.......

We have five contracts with two different member numbers. Only one 50 point contract with a different use year. We manage that one just fine by borrowing or whatever.

Hi,
I am failing to see why you would be upset with renters. I might be wrong but it seems to me that points are points wether they are used by the owner or a renter-calls need to be made to disney by someone to make arrangements. The member who rented their points paid just as much in annual dues/point as you did so I can't see where you think that they are getting disney to do more work than disney would have done had the resevation been made for the member.
I am not a member yet but I would like to be in the near future, and being able to renting my points is a big incentive to buy. It seems like many on this board are way to concerned with what someone else does with or without their points.
Maybe you can give me an education on why people are so concerned with this. I have read where this change will result in layoffs in the MS dept, or shorter wait times. I don't think either would happen. Reservations for points will be made wether they are used by the owner, rented, or given to charity :goodvibes

I feel that only members should be able to call MS and I always have. I don't think a renter should be able to call as many times as they want to feel "comfortable" with the reservation or to "check" the reservation. I also don't think MS should be making their dining ADR's or adding Magical Express for them, but that's just me. I guess I just feel that Member Services should be just that, service for "members", not some random renter who is going to call MS every week to check on things or change dining ADR's.

Could not have said it any better myself.

Renting your points should not be an incentive. Disney could make it more difficult than ever should they decide to. Purchase DVC as a means to take family vacations, not as a money making operation. On page X of the POS (dated 7/2001) it says
"Ownership Interests are offered for personal use and enjoyment only...Ownership Interests should not purchased with any expectation that any Vacation Home located at DVC resorts can be rented. ...Club Members should not purchase an Ownership Interest based upon any expectation of deriving any rental or other revenue or profit therefrom."
