I am making the hash brown casserole tonight. It's the one with the frozen potatoes, cheese, cream of chicken soup, sour cream and green onions.
Does anyone know the measurements on the soup and sour cream? I haven't made it for a long time and I don't remember how much soup to use or sour cream. TIA:)

BTW, if some recipes start rolling in and you've never made this dish, you might try it out, it is YUM.

Robin that sounds right, thank you:) Anybody else with a variation on this dish they would like to share? We crumble some corn flakes over the top of the ingredients with about 20 minutes remaining to cook, and drizzle a little butter over it. YUM:)

I make it with hashbrowns, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, velveeta cheese and cubed ham.
My family loves it, but I don't make it very often.
I call it heart attack hashbrowns

My recipe is :
2lb bag of frozen hash browns
1 can cream of chicken soup,
12 oz of grated cheddar cheese
8 oz carton of sour cream
1/4 cup of chopped onion
Mix all together in large bowl, pour into 9x12 casserole dish, top with 2 cups of bread crumbs and pour 1 cup of melted butter or margerine over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

I guess by adding the cubed ham it's a complete meal(although this stuff is so good I could eat the potato & cheese version all by itself). Tonight it's a side to filet mignon (we're having a guest). Thanks again Dis-ers. If anyone else wants to chime in, please do.:)

2 to 3 pounds frozen southern-style hash brown potatoes, thawed
1 cup diced onions
1 pound sour cream
1 can cream of chicken soup, undiluted
2 sticks butter, melted separately
8 ounce shredded cheddar cheese
Salt and pepper, to taste
½ cup corn flakes or crushed potato chips
Fresh chives and parsley

Preheat oven to 350°.
In a large bowl, combine potatoes, onions, sour cream, soup, 1 stick of the melted butter, cheese, salt, and pepper. Spoon into a 9 x 12-inch baking dish. Top with corn flakes or crushed potato chips. Drizzle with melted butter.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes. Garnish with chives and parsley.

rhinobutt????????:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: sorry

I also sprinkle corn flakes on mine, not my rhinobutt but the hashbrowns:)

I love hash brown casserole. I make it a little more heart friendly by using fat free cream of chicken soup, low fat sour cream, and it doesn't really affect the taste at all. My whole family loves this!!!

Here is 1 recipe from my dd's school recipe book. There are 2 and both contain cornflakes, interesting.

Mix hash browns, soup, sour cream, onion. Melt butter. Put corn flakes on top, drizzle with butter.
Bake 350 for 1 hour.

Other recipe is..

2 T chopped onion
1 1/2 shredded cheddar
1/2 c margarine
4c corn flakes

Mix browns, sour cream, onion, cheddar. Melt butter, mix in with corn flakes put on top of casserole.

There is a WW version! ;)

Bag of Ore Ida Country Style hashbrowns
1 cup sour cream ( I use non-fat sour cream)
1/2 cup Kraft mild cheddar cheese shredded
4 tbsp butter (I use I can't believe it's not butter)
10 oz Campbell's cream of mushroom (sometimes I use cream of chicken)

The point for the orig recipe (not my substitutions) are 5.5 for one cup serving; 4 points for 2/3 cup serving.

Spray casserole dish with Pam. Pour in the hashbrowns. Melt the butter in the microwave. In the meantime, mix the Campbell's Cream of Mushroom and sour cream together. Pour melted butter over hashbrowns then add sour cream mix. Mix until well coated. Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top. Cover with foil and bake @ 450 degrees for 40 minutes. Take foil off the last 5-10 minutes.

If you use 98% ff sour cream and 3 tbsp of butter the points are 3 per serving. :)

***edited to add. I *believe* that if you use the bag of hashbrowns, 1 cup fat free sourcream, can of 98% fat free cream of chicken and 1/2 cup of the shredded cheese, it is 2 points per serving according to my sister-in-law.
