Has your child ever had to get staples in their head?

DGD split her head open in school this afternoon and was taken to the hospital.. They put 3 staples in her head - did a CAT scan - etc.. No problems expected although she does have to stay out of school tomorrow and no gym class for a week..

Anyhow - her Ped. will take the staples out in 7 days and she asked me if it will "hurt".. I didn't know what to tell her - my kids always had stitches that dissolved.. :confused3

Anyone know the answer? Is it a really quick procedure - like ripping off a band-aid?

Other than worrying about that aspect of it, she seems fine..

Yup, my DD opened her forehead last year and had 4 staples on it. No problem.
My Sister had a "C" section and had staples too.

I had staples after my c-sections and I was terrified of having them removed. I had no pain at all. I was shocked. They use these little weird shaped scissors (flat on one side) and it squeezes the staple till it looks like a M and it comes out painlessly. It might tug if it sticks but it shouldn't be painful.

Poor baby, give her hugs from me. :grouphug:

I had staples down my back TWICE. Didn't hurt, was just a little tender.

I had staples after both of my c-sections. When they took them out it was just quick pinches nothing to bad.

I had staples for my c-section and seriously do not recall them being removed. So either I was loopy or it was not significant enough to be remembered.

My kids have had numerous stitches on their heads, but never staples. I can take stitches out myself at this point.

DD had staples in the back of her head. They came out pretty easily and painlessly. I think she was about 4 at the time.

Dfi had staples in his head. He said they hurt WAY more going in than coming out, but they still hurt coming out. I hope your DGD is ok!!!

Hey C.Ann, how are you doing? :grouphug:

I'm "doing".. Yesterday was my brother's wake - this morning was the funeral..
I'm back at the lake.. Came up about 2 hours ago after I spent some time with my DGD when they brought her back from the hospital..

Hope the staples come out easier than they went in.. She did NOT like that at all.. Possibly you heard her screaming her head off???????? Glad I wasn't in there with her..

C. Ann, it just never seems to end for you and your family, I am thinking of you.

Been thinking about you. As you already know, take one day at a time.

You know, I think I did hear her. Scared the bejeepers out of me!

I also had 3 staples in my head from a rogue statue! No pain when they went in or came out although that spot on my head still hurts if I press on it and it's been a good 6 years!

My youngest son had 3 staples in his head when he was around 5 years old. When they were being removed, our pediatrician must've pushed down a little too hard because his scalp bled a little, but it didn't seem to hurt.

Your DGD will be no worse for the wear! :grouphug:

Hmmm..are posts disappearing with this "server is too busy" thing that's been going on here? I know I responded again after Blondie's post, but it's not here.. :confused3

Anyhow - just wanted to say thanks for the replies.. I'm sure she'll be fine.. I'm really surprised she screamed so bad when they were going in - normally she's quite the little trooper.. Probably more the fear of the unknown..

Betcha anything her Grandpa is over there handing her ice cream right now.. ;)

My DD was five when she toppled out the 2nd story window. She got 6 staples in her head, and I think it is a little uncomfortable coming out, but nothing traumatizing. My DD did not cry, she flinched a little with each one.
