Hubby received a letter upgrading him from blue to gold status. Although he is a member,we've always booked either through expedia or annual pass. I understood that in order to "advance" in status one had to book through Loews or AAA. I'm not complaining :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Actually I feel like the laugh is at our expense, because they advance us in catagory, but yet we get no benefit to it. Don't get free upgrades, late check out or welcome gift. WHat's the point in advancing if we still can't use the card?

We were advanced from blue to gold using ap rates at RPH. Hoping to get an upgrade at PBH this upcoming trip, and late checkout. Last time we got wine - very nice too.

I also got upgraded from blue to gold after staying using an APH rate....no benefits here either.....how did it happen???

I have always booked with APH rates, and once through Hotel Kingdom. Got my platinum card recently. Never got the "gold" benefits. Don't expect to use the "platinum" ones either. But, I'm still a proud card holder! :)

I booked Loew's South Beach last week and they asked if I was a Loew's 1st member and for the number. The Loew's central reservation office in Arizona told me that I was Platinum and offered the suite upgrade to a St. Moritz Suite. They asked what Loew's amenity I wanted and if I still wanted the local newspaper.
That said, all of my previous stays have been at Universal hotels using the APH rate. The last PBH stay was booked with an APH and we were upgraded to the 1000+ square foot Villa Suite with club access and they sent up the Surprise Regional Gift welcome amenity. At least four of our RPR have been upgraded to Executive Suites with the amenities and late check outs. Other upgrades there were to pool view and only once can I remember them saying that we didn't qualify for the welcome amenity. At Loews Don Cesar St. Pete we received a suite upgrade and the 2 welcome amenities they even threw in dinner because the check in was late.
At check in I always have asked for my Loew's 1st number to be added to the bill for the room.
Loew's First has been berry, berry good to me!

Although you may not be getting free upgrades at Universal because the hotels are full, it is very likely you will get them somewhere else. Our platinum card has gotten us some of the most beautiful rooms we have ever stayed in, for the price of a regular room.

At Universal, we have often gotten the upgrade from standard to deluxe room but we tend to go at non peak times.
