Has owning DVC curtailed your variety of travel?

I would have to agree that at first our vacation scope was more narrow. We also moved a long way from family not long after joining, so our pattern became: fall - WDW, spring or summer - back to visit family (also included sight-seeing and "fun" stuff). We would do other 'day trips' or 2 nights of camping here and there also. This year, we broke from that pattern for the first time in 5 years. We took a week to drive to the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion Nat'l Park. We had a great trip and plan to do something like that again next year possibly. That meant less time for family trips for dh because of work, but I still took the kids to the northeast to visit relatives this summer.

On the other hand, without DVC we NEVER would have take so many vacations so regularly. That is one of the main reasons we bought into it.

We specifically bought DVC so we could stay 2 weeks during Food and Wine! My husband stipulation for buying DVC was that we had to go other places also, which we have done. However, most of our vacations are at Disney. We are going on 3 trips this year and 2 have/will be at Disney. We were not planning on going to Food and Wine this year since we have been planning a Maine family vacation since last year but my husband "we have to go other places or we are not buying DVC" has to have his F & W! I love Disney so
F & W hooked my hubby so it works out well for both of us!

yes, we hadn't been to WDW in 7 years, and now we plan to go every year, or 2 out of 3 years.

these are the types of trips we did before buying DVC
1) camping
2) visit family
3) house exchange

Now we have added 4) WDW!

we have lots of vacation time since I am a teacher and DH works PT on an hourly basis and can take off whenever he wants to.

of course, vacation dollars are limited! but for us the key was camping. when we started camping & enjoyed it a lot, I realized that it was so cheap that it essentially freed up vacation $ for more expensive trips like WDW.

No, we feel fortunate that we are able to take more than one vacation per year, so we go to WDW and often somewhere else. This year it was Italy. We are also able to do a few weekends in various places.

before joining DVC 2002 we went to WDW once. now we go 3 x a yr within 365 days to get more use out of our AP's :thumbsup2

I think we probably visit WDW more often with DVC than we would have if we hadn't bought in, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing! DVC has also enabled us to go to HH & VB on our fall breaks for 4-5 days; when before we usually only did a 3 day trip to a location fairly close to home. I think we will likely get into the pattern of a weeklong summer trip to WDW, every other year and then fall break at HH or VB every year. The summers that we don't go to WDW, we'll do an extended trip to the places we would have gone without DVC. For instance this summer we did a 3 week trip out west. We did use points for DL & the Hotel Del in San Diego, but also visited the Grand Canyon, Zion Natl. Park, Las Vegas, and many places along the way. Next summer, WDW. The summer after that, we're already planning another 2-3 week trip. DH & I are both teachers, so those long vacations are possible. I think when the kids are gone, our vacation habits will change, but I think we'll still be going to WDW and enjoying things like F&W.

It changed our vacation pattern for the first 7 years. But now that our kids don't need diapers and we don't need the big double stroller we are starting to venture out. We are ready for a break for WDW and are planning a trip to HHI in March and then a trip out West next summer. Also, we have found over the last 2 years that we haven't visited the parks much. In July we were at Disney for 2 weeks and we into the parks one day. We are going on a cruise in Dec and then MVMCP after that, no parks for us for at least 18 months. Unless we get serious withdrawl! :rotfl:
