I would have to agree that at first our vacation scope was more narrow. We also moved a long way from family not long after joining, so our pattern became: fall - WDW, spring or summer - back to visit family (also included sight-seeing and "fun" stuff). We would do other 'day trips' or 2 nights of camping here and there also. This year, we broke from that pattern for the first time in 5 years. We took a week to drive to the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion Nat'l Park. We had a great trip and plan to do something like that again next year possibly. That meant less time for family trips for dh because of work, but I still took the kids to the northeast to visit relatives this summer.
On the other hand, without DVC we NEVER would have take so many vacations so regularly. That is one of the main reasons we bought into it.
