Has DVC trapped you?

I may be in the minority, but I have little desire to vacation at places other than WDW.
I travel all over North America for a living. I have seen many places in the USA. I do agree that there's much to see (Grand Canyon, Vegas, Colorado to name just a few), but none of these places I would want to spend two weeks visiting....MG

Understand that travel routine!! We have our DVC for about half of our vacation time and use MVC for the other half. We get plenty of Disney time and get to see other areas as well.

I am going to New York and on a Panama Canal cruise this year (it's a Disney ship, though) and am still going to run down to WDW for a few more weekends.

Thanks again everyone for your responses. I guess like someone suggested maybe we should attempt to trade out or rent out for a year of two. But, I think I will still want to visit at least one week per year to the World. I also agree with what someone else said. I enjoy going because of the service that you can expect, the cleanliness, etc. I can't see us ever selling points though. We have 3 contracts and want to be able to give a contract to each of our kids, then have points for DH and I to vacation alone or with the grandkids someday.

I understand what the OP stated. I don't feel trapped in going to WDW but we also travel to other places as well. I do not expect any world class dining at WDW as someone else posted but I know we will be guaranteed a great time with mostly good food (we know where not to go;)), clean parks and clean, spacious accomodations. There is something for all of us at WDW and we all enjoy ourselves when we are there.

Freetime

My DW and I bought into DVC for us not the kids, we love Disney and still go 2-3 times a year. but we went more before we had children. With school and everything that goes with it, it's hard to take them out of school and I for one am not going in June,July and Aug, way to many people.

We knew when we bought DVC that we would still want to see other places, like Vegas and... did I mention Vegas?:rotfl2: anyway, we saved up and purchased a Marriott timeshare so we could do the "other" trips because there is alot to see and do in this country.

But my DVC is solely for our Disney trips, we already have one add-on and looking at getting another.

You could alternate years with your vacations so when your not going to Disney you could rent the points and use the money to go elsewhere like Vegas :rotfl2: or... did I mention Vegas? Oh I guess I did!

We don't feel trapped. If anything, I wish we had bought some more pts. (We have 175/use year). We have used it to go to The Plaza, WDW, and 3 day cruise. I LOVE to go other places, too. (I have already been a lot of other places before we bought into DVC, but hey..there's a whole world out there! ;) ) But for now, with 2 young children it's mostly WDW for us. We are soooo not timeshare people, but liked everything about the DVC. And besides...there's always something to do at WDW! In the next few years, we'll venture out to some of the other places!

Trapped no - I was going to WDW 2 to 3 times a year when I brought DVC - it has saved me money... (I am in the minority)

with US/IOA - go ask on the US boards - I think the AAA annual pass is around again - $99 for a year - you need to buy the voucher in Florida from a local AAA. You don't have to belong to that AAA - just one of them.

with SeaWorld - they have a flex pay - so it is not alot for a 2 years annual pass.

I love WDW - but I also enjoy US/IOA and SW. We even stayed in Royal Pacific once when they had a rate of $99 for annual passholders. Beautiful resort!!! wish WDW would get the FOLA.

when the trip is mainly not on WDW property - I exchange one of my other timeshares - or even better right now RCI (the other exchange company) is having a sale on Sept....much better than their website - a week for $149 in several resorts (not all that are listed for Sept - just a few). this is a 2-bedroom villa for a week.

there are bargin out there. there is also skyauction. great for last minute trips!!!

go ask on www.tug2.net

and you will find some of them. the RCI sale was learned on the disboards - Orlando/ board.

Oh - I YEARN to be trapped! I'm told we just went to DVC for ROFR on a resale, we look to pass soon - I hope, I hope.

Maybe, several years from now, I might feel the same way - NOT!

All kidding aside, I thought one of the benefits was the ability to use the collections to visit other resorts? Hope my DVC Guide wasn't painting a rosy picture when he was trying to sell me that SS package. Guess I'll find out through experience.

Life is what you do between vacations, enjoy. pirate:
