Has anyone used Song Airline?

We are currently booked on a red-eye from the west to MCO. We haven't used Song at all. What can we expect? How is the seat comfort and space? Any suggestions as to what we should take with us for a red-eye flight? This is our first time flying red-eye. Any all thought or suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, I know it is too late, but are we going to be happy on Song?

I'll give this a shot. First off, you will like Song. They fly only 757's, no first class, all coach seating. Standard seating, with the exception of exit rows and bulkhead. If it's all adults or above 15 years of age traveling you can try for an exit row at check-in for more leg room. Dish TV (24 channels) and music for each seat. Food for purchase ($3 - $9).

About Song? Started out as a low-fare subsidary of Delta flying from the Northeast (NY, CT, MA) to key Florida destinations (MCO, TPA, FLL). Replaced the old Delta Express. What's happening now is that the Northeast service is being reduced or eliminated in some key markets so that Song (Delta) can expand service to farther destinations...west coast (LAX and SFO) and Aruba and San Juan.

Nuff said. We still have non-stop service from BDL and love it! So will you from I assume LAX or SFO.

We love Song, have flown it 4 times already from Boston, and flying again in 3 weeks. The DishTv is great, they now have 6-7 games to play also; go to flysong.com, there are live demos of the entertainment there. You can also preorder your food from a menu there.

The seats are good, all leather, pretty good room.

Thank you all for your help. We are celebrating my DH birthday and our anniversary and I want things to be perfect. But, I also don't want to spend the $$ for first class. My DH is 6'4" and seat room is an issue. Since it is a red-eye and non-stop we should be ok. They have started service from Las Vegas to MCO non-stop, one flight a day at 11:35 PM. I understand Song is also going into the San Fran. market.

Thank you for such complete answers. :flower:

Song is our favorite. We are very upset they pulled out of EWR. Just to add they are the most friendly people we have met in the air recently. Also, on your individual screens you have a choice of 6-8 pay per view movies as well as a free tracking map of the flight. This is great after you dose off and want to check out the progress.

It seems like they are cutting down their schedules. I wouldn't be surprised if they merged it back in with Delta.

My husband is also 6'4" and seating on Song is typical. Your husband certainly won't have more room than other airlines, but he should be fine. We really like song and are flying again in Sept. You can't get much better than non-stop flights at the times you want for $116.90 rt. (Hartford to Orlando) Have a good trip.

Our TA scheduled a Delta flight then said it would technically be Song (first I had heard of Song), then said but it would be a Delta plane. Now, I have all of our travel documents and it says "Important Notice: Service between Richmond VA and Orlando FL will be operated by Chautauqua Airlines and doing business as a Delta Connection" Anyone experience this or even heard of Chautauqua Airlines? Still sounds like it will be a "Delta" flight :confused3

While they are cutting their existing schedule, they are expanding their coverage to more locations. They only have a fleet of 32 757's. I don't see them being absorbed back into Delta.

You may need a new TA. Chautauqua is definately NOT Song. Chautauqua is a "Delta Connection" carrier that typically operates smaller commuter aircraft. Song is a unit of Delta and operates full size 757 aircraft. Your TA should know the difference on something this basic. No wonder you're confused.

It could happen, the DL CEO has been fairly critical of the Song "experiment" .

Also, just an FYI for the OP. There is not a first class on Song so you are stuck with the small seats!

Just flew back home to Orlando last night on Song and it was a great experience. Everyone on board was friendly and helpful, we left on time for once and both flights were SMOOTH which for me is such a plus!!!! I'm sure the weather had a lot to do with that but I will definitely fly Song from now on.

I just booked my tickets via Orbitz, and when I looked for my seats, the front of the aircraft came up as "premium" seats. What is this if it isn't first class?

The first 8 rows on Song planes are to the left when you board. They are no different than any other seats except it might be easier to get off the plane when you land since there are only 8 rows to deplane instead of 30 or so.

Not sure were this "SONG CUTTING SCHEDUALE" thing started. Like all airlines they look at market share and resources to decide where to best use planes. They cut back at one airport and expand at another. They added planes when they moved west coast flights to SONG. They have more aircraft then last year and will expand as this is Delta's only way to fight low cost carriers like Jetblue.

It looks like I'm in the minority of disliking Song. Delta was a great Airline. But in recent years the quality has gone way downhill. With Song they nickle & dime you for everything. Buy yourself food before you get on the plane. I now fly the cattle cars of Southwest because I don't think Song is worth the extra money. They treat you like second class citizens. And don't even think about taking a suitcase that weighs over 50 pounds. They will charge you a fortune. Those pins add a lot of weight really fast.

Song keeps the front seats open (and usually the exit row seats) for Delta very frequent fliers. If you fly often on Delta (Song) and accumulate 25,000 miles in a year, you can book one of those seats. On Song, they are no different that any of the other seats - just a better location.

Glad I opened this thread! I had no idea Song flies out of San Francisco. Have to look at their fares and see if it is comparable to SWA. Generally fly SWA out of Oakland (about 45 minutes or MORE, depending on traffic from San Francisco). It would be nice to have assigned seats and don't have to worry about the "Fat Police", excuse me, "Passengers of Size". I am overweight but fit into one seat and don't need a seat extender. I travel with two small children so we qualify for preboarding on SWA. Don't like this business of eyeballing someone to see if their caboose is too big and need an extra seat.

I recently did the Song red eye from LAX to MCO and it was a great experience. Having the TV in the seatbacks was nice. The music selection that they had was awesome. The flight attendants were friendly, and attentive.

As for the flight itself, most people were trying to sleep and the lights were off. So, conversations were quiet and to a minimum. I got 3 to 3.5 hours sleep on the flight. Even when I wasn't asleep, I was still "resting" since I was being overly stimulated with lights and sounds. Given the opportunity, I will gladly do this again.

We routinely fly Song and love it. I did fly SW two weeks ago for a quick last minute trip to WDW based on SW's great fares. Have to say that I am happily going back to just Song! I hated the boarding proceedure with SW..hated that I couldn't get anything to eat on the plane, missed my music trivia. As far as pricing goes...I have found that Song is cheaper than SW unless you are lucky enough to snag a just released fare, which is what happened to me. Otherwise, I compare JetBlue, Song and SW and have routinely paid less for the times I need with Song. Of course I do tend to book very early which helps. I like being able to choose my seat and have my flights all set 11 months ahead. Yes, they do tweak the flights but I have never had an issue with any changes.

As far as being tall and flying Song, my dh is 6'4" tall also. He flies Song, on the aisle and is comfy. When he travels alone he grabs an exit row seat...has a lot of leg room that way.

We don't mind paying the extra for the food. Being able to order it is a big plus for us. It isn't an option with SW. So, basically if you want to order food, you can..no one is forcing you to. You can always grab something in the airport. I like having the options of music or a movie when I fly. I love the trivia games or tracking my flight. And we have found the Song people to be wonderful. They are great fun and make your flight go faster. I think you will be happy with Song.
