Has anyone tried parasailing?

My 15 year old daughter took a look at the plan for our trip and said "you forgot to book parasailing for me". Oops I forgot that conversation is it worth the time and the effort? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Not at WDW, but I have been parasailing and it was SO worth it! :thumbsup2 I normally get nervous with heights (i.e. looking over railings on upper - even just 2nd! - stories) but parasailing didn't bother me one bit. Maybe it's the security of being strapped in and knowing that if you do come down it'll be more gentle than a freefall and you'll be hitting water instead of concrete! Anyhow, it was such a relaxing experience. If you have the time and money, I'd say do it if won't have an opportunity elsewhere.

I loved it. I was a little nervous, but the girl on the boat reassured me. I asked her if there was a chance I could fall and she said there wasn't. She then went on to describe the crap and tell me how to sit and all that jazz. So, I said, "I'm not going to fall. Even if I TRIED to get loose of this, it's going to hold me up there?"

She said I might get a really bad wedgie, but I wasn't going anywhere.

It was great. I paid the $25 extra (or however much) to stay up a few minutes longer and go a little higher and I'm glad I did.

It was peaceful. Although the wind rushes past your ears constantly and you hear a continuous whooshing sound, it is kind of quiet...like that noise is the only noise on the planet.

I saw something that looked like pastel military housing off to the right of the MK. No idea what that was. But mostly I just kind of looked around. It really was breathtaking. :)

At one point I started getting jerked around and that was a wee bit of concern. Then I saw that the boat had stopped and the girl and driver had both gone to the back of the boat and were fiddling around with something. And the jerking got worse. And I was SURE that was it, I was going to die. I was thinking about how not to get tangled in the sail or how to push it up if I managed to hit the water and live. I was considering whether I should hit the water diving or try to go in sideways or what.

Then the boat driver and girl went back to their positions and the boat started moving and all was well with the world again. About 2 minutes later, they brought me in. The last 2 minutes weren't as fun as the first ones because I kept thinking whatever it was might happen again and I'd die.

So, if that happens, don't worry. :) I'd have had a much better time if I hadn't been worried about an untimely, painful and imminent death and all that.

You don't get dunked in the water. The other girl who went that day was all kinds of pissed off about that - they'd dunked her the LAST TIME, she wouldn't tell, wouldn't they just dunk her again. I was thinking - "go to the pool, dimwit." But if you're looking forward to getting dunked, you don't. You land on the boat. :)

Afterwards, I was PUMPED! Never felt like that before. Wanted to run and run. Wanted to hit something. I was so pumped and it lasted for a couple hours. It felt great. I told a war veteran about it (actually, I told everyone, because it was so amazing to me) and he knew exactly what I was talking about - described it better than I could, though I don't remember the words. Nobody else really seemed to "get" the feeling, but it was good. :)

All in all, I think it was well worth the money to be able to fly through the sky and not be in a plane. A unique experience I'm damn glad I had. :)

Have fun!!!

I haven't done it at WDW, but did in Mexico and this is a great description. We haven't done it at WDW because we generally don't take any time out of the parks, but if it's worth the time to you guys you should defintely go. It's a totally unique experience, and for sure fun!

Mother of 5, here, and I went up for my 45th birthday. (3 years ago) Drag DH with me, too.

We loved it!

Now, I just have to figure out what I want to do on my 50th birthday. Hmmm?

I have a very major bd coming up next september and I am hoping to get up the guts to do it! :)

My DH and I did it in the Bahamas. It was fantastic! It's an experience you have to do at least once. I, too, am afraid of heights but didn't have one concern while up there. It's so peaceful and, in the Bahamas, you can see clear down to the bottom of the water. I was hoping I wouldn't see a shark or something.

I parasailed the last time I was at Disney. First off, I am deathly afraid of heights when you don't come down right away (Rollarcoasters great, top of a tall building panic attack) so I was freaked when I found out how high it was. But I figured I'd be okay, till I got to the Contemp and saw someone else going and was like WAY high. I started offically freaking even when I got on the boat and sat down. There was another person going too (a grown man) and he let me go first so I would chicken out. The lady on the boat was so nice and calmed me down alot. I was totally fine, even about landing in the water on the way down (which she assured me would not happen :) ) A pp said that you don't hear anything but the woosh from the air, and she's totally right. It was so peacefull. I could see everything from the inside of MK to Downtown Orlando to the Swan and Dolphin Hotel to MGM (It was a clear day). I was sad to come down and I couldn't keep a smile off my face while I was up there or afterwards. I think I'm going back this Christmas and am planning on doing it again.

I had a great time parasailing! I love thrill rides and was surprised at what a smooth and not thrilling experience (by that I mean I didn't get the dropping feeling in my stomach I expected) it was. The views were great. The only negative about it for me was that I felt pretty sick (a seasick feeling) after getting down... but after having a snack that passed. I would recommend it. Have fun!

how difficult is the landing when done sailing? if my DS7 went tandem with me, would we crash land?

LOL...NO! :rotfl: They sort or pull ropes in to land you on the boat. It's very simple. And very easy. You won't crash land. :)

I want to add that although I loved the parasailing, you are very high up with just some leathery straps and strings. IMO, people who are afraid of heights might want to find thrilling adventures closer to the ground. :)

Sounds like everyone who went had a great time. Can you tell me is there a weight limit? I would probably do this with my son and I think together we weigh 225 lbs. Can you take a camera up there with you? I would love to be able to take pics while I was up there.

Thanks.

We went and my adult DS's and perhaps some of my DIL's took photos up there. They came out great.

Don't forget to take money for the tips for the boat captain the the assistant who helps you in and out of the harnesses.

here are a few pix, where you can see the rig, and how high you get. These are actually from Australia, but most are similar.

The two loops over your thighs are really what keeps you "in" the sling.

you can note in this picture that my swim suit is green, so you are really just sitting on a "swing" like strap

My kids also want to do this on our next trip.I am not sure I will have the courage to do it,but my younger son really wants to do it with me,so hopefully I will have the guts by then.

We did it and loved it. I am deathly afraid of heights, flying, etc., so it took alot of nerve on my part, but I am so glad I did it. My DD and her BF went first, then my other DD and I went. It was so peaceful. I'm sure we will do it again some day.
