Cat Cora's over on te Boardwalk? and we were very disappointed as things that were familar to us just tasted off the wall strange to us but we like to try all the new places so made the best of it but had to pass on desserts had enough of the "different" by that time:eek:

We are big fans of Iron Chef, so we were very excited to try Kouzzina's last year. We've never eaten Greek food before, but we are adventurous while at Disney. We were very disappointed in the food. The kid's options were not appetizing at ALL to our then 6 yr old. He wouldn't even eat it. We were on the free dining, so I wasn't worried about wasting food. But our favorite part was the desserts. We each got a different one so we could all try several of them. DH just LOVED the coffee!! I won't have a meal there again, but I'm considering possibly having dessert here one night during our next stay.

Well we have a breakfast lined up in November at Kouzzina's. I looked at the menu and it seemed nice. Has anyone been there for breakfast? We are very adventurous eaters. I do like good coffee and I've always found that in Greek restaurants. I'd love to hear about your meal there.

Okra? LOL...Please add this thread to those threads about "funniest thing you heard someone say at Disney". Well, even though it isn't at Disney.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

The food is great if you have a taste for fusion cuisine. Kouzzina serves Greek style food with a Southern USA twist. Since my DH and I love both styles, Kouzzina fits our tastes just fine.
Expect fresh Mediterranean with a few sizzling overtones.
Try not to be overwhelmed by the open kitchen and the high energy, noisy dining room. This is dining Mediterranean style. Get into the spirit and yell, "Opa!" with the rest of them!

I really do not like Cat Cora at all, but I did enjoy the whole fish here.
One of the best meals I have had in a Disney restaurant.

The starters and the desserts were not great.

The soup tasted like it was out of a can and the donuts were not fresh made.
I did not like the hummus and I am a big fan of hummus. I make it all the time at home.

The donuts for the dessert really need to be served fresh and hot, not reheated.

It may be better now, they had just been open a few weeks when I went.
If I go again I will avoid the starters and dessert.

We were a party of 6 and none of us enjoyed the food here and we all love greek food. We also saw a lot of food being returned.;)

We had breakfast and dinner there on our last visit and loved both. We have a breakfast reservation for our next visit as well. I wish I could work in another dinner there, but it's not in the cards. Nine months later, I still salivate when thinking of the pastitsio I had last time.

me and my husband both liked it, my teenage daughters didn't, but they did love the desserts

We ate there on August 24th and were very disappointed. We are all adventurous, even sophisticated, eaters and there was nothing impressive, at least about the entrees. I make a mean pastitsio (so I'm told) and Cat's was mediocre at best. The lamb slider was okay, very spicy, but not bad. The third item in the sampler was so memorable, I've forgotten what it was! Oh, right, it was the cinnamon chicken - not good at all. I make better chicken in my crockpot. That was DD14's entree and she left most of it. DS16 had the fisherman's stew and liked it but since he wouldn't share a taste, I have to take his word for it. The desserts, OTOH, were very good to excellent. I had the donuts with various dipping sauces, DD14 had the baklava, DS the chocolate cake and DH the semolina custard. All received raves.

I had very high expectations for an Iron Chef and she did not deliver.

Just to be clear, Cat Cora created the menu and I assume trained the chefs and probably worked on the design etc., but she does not actually work at Kouzzina. She lives in California.

We thought it was outstanding, I had the fisherman's stew and the semolina custard, DH had the lamb shank and baklava. We had the saganaki appetizer also, which ... well, I discovered I don't like haloumi cheese, but that's not the appetizer's fault, it seemed like very good quality cheese, I just didn't like it. (DH did.) We tried one of the Coranation (her own vineyard) wines. Also, the service was absolutely outstanding.

Just had dinner here last week and thought the food was great. We had a spanakopita which was good. Dh had the whole fish which was yellowtail snapper that day and very yummy (he thought a little spicy, I didn't think so) and I had the lamb shank which was delicious and tender. Desserts - I had the chocolate cake which was OK and I don't remember what dh had but he liked it. I think the semolina...DD4 got the meaty macaroni which was ok and I believe the same as everywhere else and the kids sundae which was as expected.

Yes, of course, we know she doesn't work there. I'm sure you didn't mean to insult readers' intelligence. My point is that the restaurant bears her name and I would hope she assigns one of her "people" to assure quality control of the food that is prepared there.

True but if she's going to put her name on it then she needs to stand behind it and make sure it is at a certain level.
She is there on very rare occasions, like food and wine festival.

This is no different than Todd English, Emeril (He fell of the face of the earth…) or Wolfgang Puck.
It is extremely rare to see them at their Restaurants in Orlando as well.

As for her being an Iron Chef, well I won't comment.

BTW: People forget that at one point Todd English was an Iron chef as well. That show just did not do well.

Wolfgang Puck was an original Iron Chef on Iron Chef America, too, along with Bobby Flay and Mario Batali. His first and last battle was against Masaharu Morimoto. Puck won, but declared the battle too stressful and retired, and Morimoto took his place.

I would bet a significant amount of money that at least some people who hear about Kouzzina assume that Cat Cora actually works there, especially since it's her only full-service restaurant.
