Has anyone taken taxi to a beach on Paradise Island?

I previously posted a question with little response, so here goes - maybe this is worded a little better

We need to know where to go to the beach, preferably on Paradise Island, when we dock in Nassau. We don't want to book an excursion - trying to save $$.

Is it possible to take a cab to perhaps the Sheraton or another hotel and just walk onto their beach? Or is there a public beach?

We took a taxi to Paradise Island and he dropped us off at the public beach. We had a nice day, although there were no facilities (maybe we could have gone into one of the hotels, but we didn't). Our kids were 4 and 5.5, and the undertow was quite strong in the water. The beach was beautiful and they spent a couple of hours playing in the sand. All around, it was a nice day, and nice to get away from everyone and spend family time together!

That sounds nice! Do you remember the name of the public beach, or is there only one?

Anyone else done this? Or has anyone else used any hotel facilities on Paradise Island without an excursion?

If you tell the cab driver "public beach on Paradise Island," he will know exactly what you are talking about. We have gone there many times, and although we have not used the hotel facilities, we have heard that you can use the restrooms in the adjacent hotel. You can walk down the beach behind the hotels, but of course you cannot use their chairs, pools, etc. It should cost you $4 to $5 per person to get there by cab, depending on whether they include the bridge toll on the way out. Just beware of the rentals (there are vendors with jet skiis, parasailing, banana boat rides, etc.). Hubby rented a jet ski that conked out in the middle of the ocean. It was a very bad experience!
