We are a family of 4 going to Walt Disney World for the 1st time in Dec and planning on staying in the cabins. Has anyone stayed here? whats it like?

We stayed in the cabins 3 years ago with (then) 3 y.o and 18m.o. boys. We were there in September, so it was so hot we came back everyday for a mid-day break. It was nice to have the separate room for the baby to sleep.

We had free dining, so we didn't use the kitchen, but I can see where it would be a great feature.

Definitely get the golf cart. The place is huge and you will need it. Besides that, some of our favorite memories involve cruising the campground in the golf cart. I wish we had known that so many people decorate their golf carts. We would have brought some fun things!

Also, be sure to hit the beach one night to watch the Wishes fireworks. So pretty!!! Have fun!!! :thumbsup2

Another HUGE fan of the cabins here. We stayed there over spring break this year and loved returning to the quiet and the SPACE after being in the crowded parks. So peaceful....

We stayed in the cabins in 2008 . We had a party of 6, 4 adults and 2 children ages 2 and 5. We did not use the kitchen much, only for breakfast a few days as we had the dining plan. However, the maid service here is really good and even washes the dishes for you! We really enjoyed the tranquillity of the Fort Wilderness Resort. It is so peaceful threre, but yet you still feel like you are at Disney. You will be close to the Magic Kingdom so you can hear fireworks at night. The resort is very large, so I suggest renting a golf cart as we did. You must eat at the Trail's End Buffet and go and see the Hoop Dee Doo Review. They are both excellent and are right inside Fort Wilderness! :rotfl:

Visit the "Camping at Disney" forum on the DIS. There is tons of information that I think you'll find helpful about both the resort and the cabins. The campfire with Chip and Dale, the movie nights, the beach, the pool etc. You will also find lots of info on cabin locations, lists of things in the cabins etc. Make sure you read the Golf Cart thread, you find great info on saving lots of money on your golf cart rental.

I just thought I'd put my input in here. I for one love the cabins. My fiance and I have done 2 Disney trips together and both have been at the cabins and we love them. I have a feeling these would work well for larger parties because you wouldn't feel stacked on top of each other. Before we settle in our cabin we pick up supplies for making grilled cheese, pasta, anything we think we'll need. That 24 pack of water goes a long way and using the cabin when you want to for meals is a massive money saver. In a one week stay we squeezed 5 meals out of that cabin, and we're not people who always get 3 meals in a day. The kitchen is stocked with pots and pans, plates, cups, silverware and dishwashing soap. And, if you do not want to eat inside, there's a picnic bench outside that's super-cute.
The fold-down bed is comfortable, we would spend some evenings pulling it down and watching dvd's.
The golf carts could be useful, but if you don't want to dish out that money, the buses work just fine. The campfire is a real treat, making smores, watching a movie, and Chip and Dale's special appearance- just remember your Bug-off, I've made the mistake of forgetting it.
Another bonus to the cabins is they are all separate, so it's nice and private and quiet(no leaking next door conversations!).
All together, the cabins are magical, and I'm not just saying that becaus eI got engaged there ;)

We loved the cabins. We were there in August of last year with our two boys (at the time 4-year old and 22 months).
I put a lot of info about them and pictures in my 1st trip review (below). Plenty of space for a family of 4, especially when 2 of them are little.
We had breakfast there in the mornings, dinner there almost every night, and packed lunches. Overall only ate 3 meals in the parks, so were able to save A LOT of money there.
It was great to put the boys to bed in the bedroom and hang out in the living room in the evenings. They are very comfortable, quiet and private.
We drove so used our minivan to get to/from the parks, but one of could come back early for the baby's nap and the other stayed with the 4-year old for another hour or two. This was especially easy in MK since they run a ferry straight to the campground and you don't have to fool with busses.
We got a golf cart on ONE day, the day we had no park plans, just to tootle around. They're a bit pricey (but you can get them cheaper off-site, and have them dropped off!), and the only place we went other days was the campground pool...we just took the bus, and were there in less than 15 minutes.
I was a little disappointed that everything in the campground carried a pretty hefty charge...from the "grocery" store to the horseback riding and bike rentals...for what you pay to stay there, it should be more inclusive.
But I'd definitely do it again! It's a great break from the hustle and bustle of the parks!

We stayed several times at the cabins. The last visit was 2 years ago during Tropical Storm Faye. Cabins are great, we celebrated my step daughters 16th birthday there. We had brought a Disney banner and hung it on the inside of the cabin, I ordered groceries from Garden Grocer on line and they delivered them and the CM also put all of our groceries away, while my family and I were in the pool, talk about a vacation!! :cool1:

While it is not necessary, we splurged and rented 2 golf cards, we enjoyed riding around the campground especially if you stay during Christmas, you can enjoy all the holiday decor the campers display. It was wonderful.:cool1:
