We've booked 2 one bedroom villa's for June 2004 and wanted to hear from people who have stayed there. Is it convenient to the parks? Grocery stores?

Thanks!!!::MinnieMo

Love, love, love, love, LOVE OKW! :) The villas are so big, and you can park your car right in front. :) Makes it really easy to bring in groceries. The buses to the parks are great, and they offer a boat to DTD also. You will LOVE it. ::yes::

It is not necessarily close to a grocery store. They do sell a few grocery items in the gift shop, but they are expensive. If you go out the DTD toward 535 and turn left, there is a Winn-Dixie.
The rooms are very nice at OKW. A 2 bedroom is a little more than 1300 sq ft, so you'll have lot of room. A nice balcony is off the living room. You'll have a full size waher and dryer. I'll be there in 2 weeks staying in a studio. The farthest you are from a park is probably 15 minutes at the most(by bus).

I would suggest trying to get as close to the main pool as possible. We didn't do much swimming because the pools were a long walk from where we were. If you don't smoke, you'll have a lot more options than we did though. We were way at the end, close to a bus stop, but not close to any pool. Very nice rooms. My family was very impressed.

As someone already mentioned, the villas are very spacious. I'd guess it's less than a 15 minute bus ride to everywhere except the MK, which takes about 20-25 minutes. If you go to DD, take the boat instead! It's wonderful! If you want to be near the big pool, ask for a villa near the Hospitality House. However, there are also a few "quiet pools" that are farther away from the Hospitality House, but they are much less crowded and more private. I suggest the one near Miller's Road. There's also one near Turtle Pond, but it's usually more crowded because it's very far from the main pool and there's a snack shop, etc.

I've stayed in a 1 bedroom the past 4 years in May. The rooms are very spacious. We like the water views on Turtle Pond Road. We always rent a car so distance to the main area or bus stop is not a problem. We usually drive to the parks, we prefer it to the busses (nothing wrong with the bus service, we just prefer the car). Be aware that only buildings 62, 63 & 64 have elevators. The rest are 2 or 3 stories with steps as the only option for the upper floors. When I take my mom, I request first floor. There are 1 bedrooms in all buildings and are all lockoffs (have a connecting door to a studio). If you are having someone sleeping in the living room, be aware that only buildings 30 and higher have a second bathroom entrance through the laundry room. Buildings 29 and lower have only one bathroom entrance through the master bedroom.

Our first visit to OKW will be August 3-13. We plan on getting a 2bdrm, since there should be 8 family members staying together and we know we will need the space!;) So far there has been a tremendous amount of valuable information on the Dis Boards to help us in making our decision and seeing OKW last summer helped too.
Have a wonderful trip Madeline and keep us posted as to how things go for you:) Reading about it makes me want to be there now:hyper:

We have stayed in both the 1br and 2br villas at OKW and we loved it. Very spacious, wonderful balconies, nice jacuzzi tub plus the washer and dryer are convenient.

You don't say if your driving or not. The grocery stores are not real far but they are not close enough to walk either.

We have been in different areas both times we have stayed and liked both areas (neither were near the main pool but both were very close to the other pools).

I'm sure you will like the villas. Have fun.

OKW is awesome!!
It is so peaceful and quiet; especially after a long day at the parks. The units are large, so it feels like you are "going home".

We like the Turtle Pond area, it is in walking distance to a quiet pool and spa. There is also grills and a snack bar.

Grocery store is very close, not more than a 5 minute drive.
You can also ship non-perishable items and they will be sent to you unit after check-in.

If nobody has problems with stairs, request a top floor. There are no elevators but units are 2 or 3 stories high. You get a better water golf course view the higher up.
