Just curious - is the Christmas tree lighting at MK worth seeing? The one time we were close by, nothing happened except for the lights coming on - what did we miss? I have read it is a 20 minute ceremony.

Thanks,
Anne

I haven't seen the tree lighting ceremony. Let me bump this back to page one for you. I'll bet some of our WDW veterans have some advice for you.

They usually have a little show first with Mickey & Minnie and the "Mayor" on the train platform. Then they turn on the lights. Get there by 5:00 and you'll also see the flag retreat, very moving. The tree lighting is at 5:30 I believe.

We caught the tree lighting by accident. We were on our way out of the park and had stopped at the Kodak store where the CM asked if we were staying to see the tree lighting. We told her we didn't know there was one and she told us we still had a few minutes before it started. Boy, was I glad we caught it! Yes, Mickey, Minnie and the Mayor were on the platform but there were also carolers. I found myself teary-eyed on Main Street USA! DH videotaped the whole thing and I still get teary-eyed watching the video. OK, I may be extreme but I would say if you are nearby - stop, relax and enjoy!

Oh boy, I hadnt heard about this yet. Thanks for the info. I think I need to rearrange my schedule to have us in the MK at 5:00pm some night. Is the ceremony over at 5:30?(have to start thinking about PS times) And do they continue to do it after Christmas, but before New Years?
