Has anyone ridden Velocicoaster with 7 year old?

Hi! We are heading to our first real Universal vaca this summer. We are of course excited for Velocicoaster! My 7 year old, thrill seeker, daughter meets the height requirement but she's barely 50 pounds! Tall and skinny. It will likely be her first upside down coaster since we are hitting Universal before Disney. I don't really think there's a chance she might slip out :rotfl2:but I heard you get a lot of air time and there being no shoulder restraints and all....I'd love to get a first hand experience from someone who rode with a young child and how it went. Thanks!

I haven't rode with a small child but the day I was there I saw a few riding (one they had to measure right before getting on) and didn't notice any hysterical crying or anything like that. I will say there is a lot going on with it as far as heights/launches but it is very smooth so it would be a better first experience than Hulk since that is kind of rough.

Definitely do Hagrid's first if she hasn't ridden that already to see her tolerance :P

Following--our kiddos are barely 51 inches and super skinny, but the more thrilling the ride, the more they love it! I guess Universal must set the height limit with the expectation that it is safe at that height regardless of weight, but it just makes me nervous with it being such a new ride.

Thank you! She has ridden a VERY intense wooden roller coaster, El Toro, at Great Adventure (our Six Flags) that is more intense than anything I’ve gone on, even though it’s not upside down.
She’s done mine train at 2 years old, Everest when she was 4 so I’m not too concerned about her freaking out more about her feeling like she’ll fall out! She would hate me if I pulled the mom arm across her chest the whole time! 😂

Yes exactly how I feel!

I'm not letting my 9 year old ride. She's not even super small, but I'm just not comfortable without the over the shoulder restraint. I'm sure it's safe or it wouldn't be allowed---I just can't do it. I talked to her about it and she was okay with it. It may have been different if she was really looking forward to it, but I told her we'd go do something fun while her big sisters rode it and she was okay with it.

I know, my logical brain is like, there is no way that they would ever allow someone ride it that could actually slip out. But a very small part of me is like....but what if she does? That's why I kind of wanted to see that children her age/size have ridden it.

Y'all are making me feel so much better. I was starting to worry I am just an awful helicopter mother who doesn't let her kids have fun, but the worry is REAL! I am glad I am not the only one stressing out about this.

That said, I promise to abide by the consensus of this thread. If people come back and post that their little ones had no issues despite being "borderline" on size, I can be persuaded. My kids do really really want to go.

I rode it today and Holy Crap! JMO, if they are on the small side body wise, I wouldnt think its a great idea. I rode w my 6'3' 20 yr old son and we are coaster people and again we both said Holy Crap! I was up off the seat quite a few times and I am 5'9' (feet didnt touch the ground during ride) and like a 10-12 pants. Best of luck w whatever you decide

My 27 year old sd lives in Orlando and called today to report two things.

1. The ride was AMAZING.

2. She agreed with me not to have my 9 year old ride it. She said she felt kind of scared with just the lap bar, although to be fair, she's 4-11 and a half and about 110 lbs.

I really am sure it's been tested over and over again. I think we will still sit this one out.

A question: how small is the person your child may ride with? I would feel a lot better in a situation where they are a smaller adult so the lap bar would pull down lower. I'm 5'6 and a size 12, so I'm not a petite woman.

I am sure the lap bars are individual. The ones at Cedar point close quite tightly onto your lap. You are actually very secure. We enjoyed the steel vengeance coaster which has significant airtime. I cannot imagine how you would fall out because your legs would have to go all the way through it. I don’t see any way it would happen.

That actually makes SO much more sense! Thank you for pointing that out! In my imagination, it was a lap bar like Big Thunder at Disney.

It is individual bars per rider, so they fit each person. I much prefer that type of ride than a single lap bar for anything! lol

When we were there while they were doing soft openings we promised GD we wouldn’t ride it without her. That trip in July. Worked for me, it looks terrifying IMO

I did askthe CM who appeared to be in charge (dress shirt) standing near the line entrance how old a child had to be to ride alone.

he said seven (7), as long as they met 51 inch height requirement. Will say I was surprised, expected older & taller

If she can handle El Toro, she'll likely be fine.

Okay, that's what I was looking for! You have ridden both?? Because we are not coaster enthusiasts but I have seen El Toro at the top of many people's all time best coasters list, though it's hard for me to gauge intensity. I feel like El Toro is the most intense ride I've ever been on and she rode it like she was on a carriage ride through the park.

I will be riding Velocicoaster for the first time on Thursday, but judging by what I saw when it was testing a few weeks ago, as well as accounts from people who have ridden it, I would say it's similarly intense. El Toro I have ridden a great many times since it opened.

Okay perfect, so you'll have to let me know after you ride it!! Thanks!
(Are you from NJ?)
