Has anyone picked up a car at WDW?

We are considering getting a car when we arrive at WDW, not at the airport. We have 4 people but lots of luggage, stroller, etc.... that usually requires a mini-van from the airport however, we don't need a van for 4 people during the trip. We really like FL Tours service, too.

Has anyone picked up a car at the WDW plaza or another location? Any difficulties? Is it a good idea?

We rented a car for a daytrip to Uni/IOA at Dolphin in 2004. The only downside was that they're not 24/7 but, I think, 8am to 4 pm so you'll have to time your pickup and dropoff accordingly.

I rented one in January from National at the Car Care Center. They had shuttles that ran to various resorts on property. I made a reservation for the shuttle, they picked me up and took me to the Car Care Center. I did have a little wait in line, since 3 shuttles got there at the same time, but it was very easy.

NCRedding I just reserved a compact for us from National. How did you arrange for the shuttle and where might I find more info? Thanks!

There are two locations you can pick up from on WDW property: the Car Care Center and at the Dolphin Resort. The CCC has longer operating hours and more companies to choose from, I think, but you have to arrange a shuttle trip to get there. The Dolphin had only Alamo/National as of September 2004, and it's operating hours are only 8-4. However, since it's at the Dolphin, you can simply take the Disney transportation (boats or buses) to get there, with no shuttle arrangement needed.
