This will be my first time staying value, after staying at Deluxes. This is the first time my DH, DS and myself are going alone, and we are really excited. However, we always stay deluxe b/c my parents and relatives usually go.

Has anybody not liked POP? This is the value I think we would like the best.

Thanks for any input.

We will be staying there for the first time in December and I am trying to find out all I can too. tripadvisor.com just had a negative review posted from someone who said the walls are paperthin and you can hear everything in the next room etc. That is one of the first negative reviews I have seen on this place. It didn't say what building he was in....not sure if they are all the same.

the room to room noise level is high in all the value resorts, two years ago we stayed at ASMU and in the room above us was either a young couple or someone was filming a mattress commercial.

I stayed twice (Jan and May) and here are my thoughts. I have stayed at all resorts, and usually enjoy the moderates most.

Rooms: the rooms are actually quite nice, more relaxing than the All Stars. Sort of Ikea furniture, but lots of little features to make them more comfortable for multiple guests (ie hooks, which I love in the moderate resorts for some reason) Fewer garish colors

Noise: now, I never had noise issues from neighboring rooms, but I did have noise. Like many resorts, there is noise when people return from the parks and kids and adults run along the walkway outside the room. I don't mind it when the elephants return - :)

The first time I was in the 70's building and right behind an outdoor speaker. Disco music BLARED so loud that I couldn't even hear the TV. It went on into the night and early morning. After two days I had a severe migraine and left in tears (turns out that they were having mechanical difficulties due to newness and the situation has been fixed - they were good about moving me to CBR so that I could sleep)

The 2nd stay I asked for a quiet room, and got one on the back of a building. But I was going crazy because a really rythmic beeping started right at 11pm and went on until 6am non stop. It sounded like an alarm like when a smoke alarm battery is dying. Security couldn't figure it out. The 2nd night at 10:59pm it started again.... security came up and listened with me and was stumped. Finally someone came up and laughed at us - it was a whippoorwill! (sp?) He was pretty lonely over at CBR and was sending out the most rythmic mating call I have ever heard, and obviously his clock was set for 11pm. I moved to another room next day and all was fine.

Food: the food court is the most diverse of all the value resorts, and there are a lot of healthy options as well. I didn't eat here much, but I enjoyed the fruit and dips etc to take back to the room

Transport: like all value resorts, it can be a little hike to the bus stop, but parking spaces did seem faaaaaar away from some areas. I actually liked it better when I returned the car and took the bus, which was never crowded and pretty timely

So long as you understand the difference in theming from a moderate or deluxe to a value resort, and the layout and potential distance is ok, you should be fine. I personally enjoy walking back to my room at POR or CBR because the walk is so pretty - you won't find that at a value resort.

For the cost savings, though, it's a great choice....

We stayed at Pop for our first night(7 for 5 deal at Ft.W cabins). I was excited to stay at the newer resort. We had 2 connecting rooms in the 70s building - facing the foozeball.

We have stayed at numerous resorts at WDW - Dixie Landings(honeymoon and tons of more times, CBR, Yacht club, BW, AS Music, and more.

The resort was very nice, happily decorated and full of energy. There seems to be lots of children running around unsupervised everywhere. Yes, WDW is a place for kids - I have 5 (ages 2 - 10), but mine are not allowed to run free.

The rooms are on the small side - even with two rooms things were a bit cramped. You cannot push a stroller directly into the room because the bed is very close to the door. The toilets are also very loud (we didn't flush at night because of baby sleeping).

We got in around 8:30 and headed to the pool. It was fun and packed. The kids really enjoyed it and all of the decor.

We finally got to bed after 11:00 and our neighbors decided to have a party - or at least it sounded like that - doors slamming endlessly, small children crying and screaming, people yelling, etc all well past midnight. My children were too tired to notice, thankfully, but it kept me awake for a long time. If I wasn't in my jammies I would have went out there and cried.

Of course the next morning little DD was up before 6:00. In order to let everyone else sleep we headed to the food court. The food court was very nice, reasonable priced and lots of selections.

All in all it was a good time. I am not sure that I would stay there for any length of time, but it was the only affordable place for us, then I'm sure we would.

Very noisy. We had a room right outside the Twister game and until about two in the morn we had teenagers SCREAMING while playing on it. Once I even got up and dressed to go ask them to please be more quiet as they kept waking up my kids. I would ask for a non courtyard view.

Otherwise - cute, bright, nice food court, rooms were clean although small. Great value I think.

We also had a room at the first of our trip(we had transferred to BWV.) that was overlooking the lake and unfinished section of Pop. Although looking out at the brown building wasn't too pretty you have a PERFECT view of Wishes. quite amazing the view actually. Totally unobstructed. You can also walk over and sit on a bench by the lake. This side was also quiet.

We have stayed deluxe most of the times but stayed at Pop over the July 4th weekend and had a great time. We stayed in the 60's section overlooking hourglass lake. It was not noisy at all and my DD7 declared it her favorite resort. We are going back for another weekend in Oct for MNSSHP. For longer stays, I prefer deluxe or moderate.

The weekend we went was very crowded and I had no problems with noise... then again, due to my DH's earth-shaking snoring, I sleep with ear plugs, so that could be the reason I didn't hear a thing.... I highly recomend ear plugs just in case!

You can also buy one of the noise machines that play white noise, rain, etc.

first off, thanks for all the great info on value resorts. I usually stay at moderate to deluxe and next trip really would of liked to say in value just because I felt would like to try it and it looks like the transportation system is great. but I am not one for noise at all. I wake up if the wind blows. So I am reconsider for my trip next year.

but here's my beef guys. Love to see everyone's pictures of kids, your signs, disney shots, etc. but I believe this forum or for that matter any one should be NON POLITICAL.

I take offense at anything else. whether you choose to vote for Bush or Kerry that is your choice. I do not want to see negative signs for either one.

This is not the place.

I prefer to say this is my retreat...my happy time...

So I suggest to the moderators and to all you pro kerry, pro bush fans, please keep your signs to yourself and let's just stick with the DIS news.

thanks for letting me vent

oh and my 2 cents.

I was darn happy we had the president we had on 9/11 or you may never know if WDW would still be standing today.

what a goof ball, you gripe about being political and then wave your own flag in your last sentence.

Ya, that was a little hypocritical. But, what else would you expect from a Republican? :teeth: Just kidding...

But really, if the DIS makes everyone with all the Bush banter take it off then I'll gladly take off mine, too. ;)

I am with you. I like the boards to be about Disney. Kinda takes away the fun of these boards when the "real world" comes in.

We stayed at Pop Century for a few days in July, and we had a great time!!! We were in the 60s bldg, and our room overlooked the kiddy pool. We never heard our neighbors! We never really heard any outside noise either! Buses were great!!! Food court was pretty good, but we really didn't eat there too much!

We'll be back at Pop Century in December!!! Can't wait!!!

We won't be back to Pop.

Resort is cute. Theming is nice, clean, upbeat. Food court is nice and clean, with fairly reasonable prices and variety.

I loved the interior decor in the rooms, very cute! DH and I shared a king room, and it was very spacious. Mom and sister had adjoining double beds, and their room was tight but okay.

But we could not sleep. And when you can't get sleep on vacation, it ain't cool.

The walls are PAPERTHIN. Really. I think they are hollow. EVERY conversation next door was heard loud and clear. Alarm clock next door going off at 6am was heard like it was in our room. Excited children preparing for the day could be heard. Running children up and down the outside. Not to mention the superpowered toilets =)

There were also people swimming at the quiet pools (ones that are supposed to close at 10pm, I think) until 2 and 3 am. With walls so thin, you heard that, too. We were three floors up, facing the pool.

All in all, it was nice and cheap. But since we hardly got any sleep, we will upgrade to a moderate or deluxe next time for that.

I think you should be prepared for some noise regardless of where you get a room just due to outside noise, toliets, etc. But then just hope and pray you have very quiet neighbors =) There are some people on here that weren't disturbed by their neighbors, but I really don't think ours were overly loud - just usual hustle and bustle of a family at Disney.

I say give it a shot = we were glad we did =) Now we know it's not for us!

we are staying here the second half of our stay. I am looking forward to it. I don't mind noise. I have 22 kids in my class. LOL.

Have you thought about switching to a moderate? This way you get a much more romantic, quiet atmosphere and still save a bunch of money over a deluxe. I loved the Port Olrleans Riverside the best out of the moderates, we really enjoyed our stay there even after staying at mostly deluxes.

Try this link, it will list all the discounts available as they're announced, sometimes you can even get a moderate for the same price as a value.

We stayed at the riverside last trip. We also loved it. We are staying at the CSR this time and then hopping over to POP.

Me and DH stayed at the POP in January for 3 days and that was 2 days too long for me. I would lay in bed at night trying to fall asleep and was kept up by either people going back to their rooms, the sprinklers outside, or the guy next door peeing. I couldn't believe it the walls were so thin that you could hear everything that went on in the room next to you......everything!!

I would reccomend going to either mousesavers.com or allears.net to see if you could get a discount code to stay at a moderate for the same price. If that doesn't work, i would stay at the all star movies instead of the POP.

I hope my ideas are helpful to you.

Try not to worry. Some people would complain about staying at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC in a $1000 suite. Take it with a grain of salt. I'm sure all will be fine.
