I've seen recipes online for making a turkey breast in your slow cooker, but I've also read that it's not safe because of the low cooking temperature. Has anyone done this, and did it turn out ok and most importantly was it safe to do?

I have made a turkey breast in my crockpot several times, using Stephanie O'Dea's recipe from her blog. It came out quite moist.

You want to start with a thawed turkey breast and keep the lid on it - no peeking. Its every bit as safe as cooking a roast beef.

I have done it several times and plan on doing it again! It keeps the meat so juicy! It is so nice to have the oven empty for other things!

I'm so glad this was asked as I've been wondering the same thing!!

I have cooked small turkey breasts in the crock pot (2lbs) but I have a 5 lb turkey breast for thanksgiving that I want to put in te crock pot. How Many hours would you cook a 5lb (it's just us this year).?

I have a 4.75 boneless Butterball turkey breast in my frig. This is what the package says (word for word) about cooking it in the crock pot:

Crock pot
Roast must be thawed

1) Place thawed roast, skin side up, flat in 8 inch diameter crock pot

2) Add 1/2 cup water

3) Cover, cook on low 7 1/2 hours* to internal temperature of 170 in center

4) After 4 hours, check temperature at center, ends and near top for food safety. Turkey must reach 140 within 4 hours.

*Cooking up to 9 hours does not impair eating quality. (Cooking on high for the first hour does not reduce cooking time).

Hope that helps!

I did this one year and it was delicious! So moist and flavorful and my in laws never asked me to make the turkey again. It was awesome! They were disappointed there wasn't a turkey on the table:rotfl:.

I do them all the time! I just put them in frozen before I go to work and they are done when I get home! I plan on doing it again this year. I am going to put it in before I go to bed and then it will be ready when I get up. We are eating at noon, so I want it done early.

Yes...mine is always completely thawed. I use rotisserie chicken seasoning and coat it thoroughly. It's delicious! :goodvibes

A few years ago we went camping in our travel trailer for thanksgiving and I did a turkey breast in the crockpot. Someone recommended buying one with bone in so it would have more flavor. I have since done both bone in and boneless and I agree the bones did make it taste more like a whole turkey. It came out great BTW, very juicy and flavorful.

YES, YES, and YES!!! :thumbsup2

Just as safe as cooking any other meat or poultry in the slow cooker. I usually set it on Low for 8-10hrs... but if I want to fast-track it, I have turned it to Hi for 2-4hrs of the cooking time, and reduced the total time.

I soften 1/4 stick of butter, and mix 1/4 tsp (more or less) each of rosemary, thyme, and sage into the butter. Then rub the butter mixture under and over the skin of the turkey breast. Lastly, pour a small jar of turkey gravy over the bird, to serve as the liquid in the crockpot.

Always comes out beautiful, moist, and so yummy! I do check the temp with a meat thermometer to determine when it's done.

Turkey... it's not just for Thanksgiving anymore. :hippie:

Very moist and easy way to cook a turkey breast! We do it all the time.

Yes, we love it that way! MIL will sometimes soak hers in salt water overnight first but I just throw it in & it comes out great. Easy & I love that it is something we will all eat without complaining!
