Has anyone here read The DaVinci Code?

On pages 261-262 of the hardcover version it says Walt Disney and the Disney artists use much symbolism in the films- especially in Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and the Little Mermaid- all having to do with paganism, godesses, and the Grail! Oh, and Walt belonged to a secret society- like DaVinci!

In addition, the main character, Langdon, wears a Mickey watch. Dan Brown must be a big Disney fan!

I know its "just a novel", but I thought this was interesting!

I noticed that too. AM now reading 'Angels and Demon's and the Mickey watch is mentioned there too!

All the really cool, smart people I know wear Mickey watches! Or at least a Disney watch of some kind!

I read both of them and I have my favorite :teeth:

The strap broke on my Mickey watch, so now I am wearing my plain old Timex :sad1:

I loved those...and I think "secret societies" are more prevalent than everyone thinks.

I loved that book and Angels and Demons too.
I noticed that about Disney Too, oh well!

I have and I loved it. I really enjoyed the way he mixed factual people, places, things, etc. with his Langdon storyline. I'm looking forward to the film with a mixture of anticipation and trepidation.

Read Angels and Demons too, and I hope they make THAT into a film as well, I love the whole Vatican setting, the whole antimatter thing, and love the ambiagrams!

LillyGator, the sunsets with a spray of color.... :smooth:

Seriously, I agree that there are secret societies, but most we have heard of. This doesn't mean helecopters or JFK theories, but we all want to be part of a society.

Look at the response to The Last Temptation of Christ. Too many had heard the "gossip" but suddenly it was a new idea.

Da Vinci, I waited for paperback, now I am reading them all. Try digital fortress also.

Ah, I agree with you that at least I would love to be part of a secret society.

There is, or course, nothing to the "symbolism in the little mermaid" stuff. IRL, both Walt and Roy were Freemasons. Roy left the fraternaty after he got married. His wife was Catholic and the Catholic church frowns on Freemasonry. Walt was never particularly active in the Fraternaty (like he never joined Scottish Rite or the Shrine). While I wear a Micky Mouse watch, they have not been used in any of the secret-masons-take-over-the-world meetings that I've been to.

I thought that Walt only joined DeMolay but never moved on to the masons. :confused3

However, I was told that Mickey was also officially a DeMolay and it was the only group he ever "joined" in an official capacity.

Of course, you know how celebrity things are claimed ;)

Dan Brown's next book should make things even more interesting.

(I wear a Goofy watch, btw :teeth: )

I agree with this... anticipation and trepidation. IMO, Tom Hanks is too old to play Robert Langdon. I think it should have been Russell Crowe. He could have been nerded down to Langdon but still have had the vigor that is required. KWIM?

I recently read this book, and I was have to say that I knew pretty much where the plot was going. I read a number of books about The Knights Templar, and books about the "real" Jesus about 10 years ago (a phase I was going through I think!) and it really was just a rehashing of all of those. Whether that means there is anything to it is a debate I shall swiftly sidestep!!! Having said that I did enjoy it, be interesting to see the movie. The girl in it is the one from Amelie, yes? She is so pretty, and I loved Jean Reno in Leon (The Professional)

I liked the book but actually much preferred "Angels and Demons." I think Ton Hanks is a horrid casting choice for Langdon. Not at all who I pictured him to be and definately too old. While I think Harrison Ford is also too old, since Brown specifically mentions him I always pictured Langdon more like Harrison.

I always thought Nic Cage would be a good choice.

I even see people like Owen Wilson, Matthew McConaughey or Matt Damon as a better choice than Hanks. ETA, I'm bored. George Clooney, Val Kilmer, Hugh Jackman, Pierce Brosnan.....anyone but Hanks.

There are photos from filming here.
