By no means am I complaining. I am a brand new DVC member and have 3 trips to WDW in the works next year. I couldn't be more excited about my purchase and coming to visit Mickey next year.

I did have a question as I am still a newbie. Has anyone heard of a pet friendly resort?

My wife and I have 2 smaller pups and were thinking of driving down one of these summers to WDW. Would love to bring the pups if possible one day.

I don't believe any pets are allowed at any Disney resort...DVC or otherwise. There is a nice kennel onsite, so you could bring them but they couldn't stay with you.

when i talked to my guide, he said there has been talk of one. however, the hotel would just have a kennel in it or outside i forget. you couldn't actually bring your pets inside.

There are pet loops at the Fort Wilderness campground.

As for DVC, it will never happen. All the owners at that resort would have to be pet owners and people without pets would be upset if that was all that was left to make a reservation. They would be asking management to bump the owners of the pet resort out of the non-pet resorts.

We'd love to be able to bring our boys with us as well when going for longer stays. FW is the only Disney resort that allows pets and that's only if your camping - not in the cabins. And they apparently have a new dog park area there as well. There are several kennels on property that you can leave the pets overnight.

Otherwise - Universal is pet friendly! ;)

Try renting an RV and use your points at FW. There are some locals that rent their RV and bring it in and set it up. You can then have your pet with you and have access to the Waggin Trails Dog Park. The only types of RVs allowed to have pets are motorhomes or 5th wheels. No pets allowed in tents or pop ups. You would still have to take them to the kennels in that case.

There are few timeshares that are pet friendly, many of the Westgates are though.

We spent a few days at the Royal Pacific at Universal and as mentioned because they are a Loews hotel, it was very pet friendly. I never brought a dog to a nice hotel before and was a bit freaked out about it. They put me at ease and hoped that she also has a wonderful stay.

I would love if DVC would designate a particular part of a resort as pet friendly. SSR comes to mind. It is spread out, the demand to stay there is not outrageous, and they can have an exclusive pet allowable building that segregates them from other guests.

Here she is enjoying the resort

She is not allowed on the furniture at home but DD begged to let her sleep on the bed with her. I said OK thinking it was kind of a vacation treat, like kids jumping on the bed.

I'll remember that info for the future! :thumbsup2

I could see the Carousel section becoming very popular.

But when a guest without a pet had to stay in that section because it was all that was available, I could hear lots of complaining. Kind of like "I got a room with no bathtub" complaining that we often hear about handicapped villas. I think the kennels are the best Disney will offer unless they have another company build that resort on or adjacent to Disney property and run it separately from Disney resorts.

Disneyland has a kennel at the front gate, but no overnight stays are allowed. There are construction walls around it currently from what I hear.

Most of them are but not listed as so with RCI. If you look on Westgate's home page, you can find the info by individual resort. It does vary with each resort. Some don't, some do but only certain units so you have to check, some you can just show up. I know Williamsburg, the top Branson, Gatlinburg and MB do.

Just because you love your pet doesn't mean that everyone does. Your DVC neighbors do not want to hear you dog barking or racing around the room overhead. And I know, I know, YOUR dog would NEVER bark or disturb your neighbors in the hotel but what about those other people's pets?

Nor do most members want to pay extra in annual dues to take care of the added expenses associated with cleaning up after pets. Because lets face it, there will be many instances where someone's pet has an "accident" or a "moment of spite" and leaves a wet or stinky present on the carpet or furniture. And even a "clean" pet smells and animals spray and stuff to mark their territories so after every guest traveling with a pet there would need to be a special cleaning. Besides, you can't bring your pet to the park, so really, what's the point?

whatever the point is, you sure missed it. I take it you don't like animals? don't have a dog?

obviously if there ever WERE a pet friendly resort, people like you would not book there, so don't get all upset over something that hasn't happened and most likely never will.

There are legitimate reasons for not offering a pet friendly DVC resort. This is a discussion forum..differing points of view are welcomed.

I do have pets, currently 3 cats, but we've always been dog owners prior to this. In 50+ years, I have never taken a pet on a "trip" where a hotel setting was involved, and would not. We board our pets at the vet while we are gone, they are well taken care of, even though it is expensive and adds higher costs to the vacation. When we moved cross country 30 years ago, we stayed in motels while traveling, the pets stayed in the enclosed, covered back of the pick-up truck as night, we did not leave them in the heat during the day, they were in the AC part of the truck.

The only time we ever took dogs on "vacation" was when we actually owned the home at the destination, for a few years we had a farm in Texas where the land was rented to a farmer, but the house was vacant, then we traveled with the dogs who loved the wide open space.

I for one do not want to see a pet friendly option at DVC, not only for maintenance fees, but because it further limits available rooms. Every added guaranteed booking category limits overall booking availability. And what happens if someone arrives with a pet, in a guaranteed pet friendly room, and the room goes out of service for maintenance issues? Do they then give them a non-pet room, where someone with allergies could be the next occupant?
