I booked a car rental through National, who we've used several times from MCO with no problems, on July 7. This is what my confirmation e-mail says:
Sub total.....................................................$212.63
Discounts
Entertainment.com 2013 ($30.38)
Surcharges:
Customer Facility Charge 2.50/day $12.50
Airport Access Fee 10 Pct $18.72
Florida Surcharge 2.00/day $14.00
Tire/battery Fee .02/day $0.14
Vehicle License Fee .71/day $4.97
Taxes:
Sales Tax (6.50%) $15.12
Total Estimate................................................$247.70
This afternoon, I was doing some rate comparisons. I couldn't remember exactly what our rate was, so I pulled up our reservation on the National website, and this is what I saw:
1) Time & Distance ($266.77/Week) $266.77
Discount Coupon Accepted ($38.11
Subtotal $228.66
Taxes, Surcharges and Fees
Customer Facility Charge 2.50/day
$12.50
Priv Fee Recov Chg 10 Pct $23.36
Florida Surcharge 2.00/day $14.00
Tire/battery Fee .02/day $0.14
Vehicle License Fee .71/day $4.97
Sales Tax (6.50%) $18.44
Subtotal $73.41
Estimated Total $302.07
I haven't changed or modified the reservation, and the reservation number is the same. So how did the price change without me making any changes? I called National and got a completely unhelpful person who told me that she didn't know where I was getting my original number, but that I would be paying $302.07. When I asked to speak to someone else who could help me, she told me I needed to speak to someone at the Orlando location, and of course their administrative hours ended at 4 p.m., so I will have to call Monday.
Has anyone ever been through something like this? I imagine that if worse came to worse, I could take my reservation confirmation with me and try to argue it with them there, but I don't really want to have to do that. We wanted to use National because the code that I had allowed us to rent a carseat for free, and we were hoping to avoid lugging two carseats with us. We also have executive status and wanted to use the emerald aisle. But if they can't fix it for us, I would be hard pressed to stick with National.
