This might sound a bit weird, but has anyone purchased at a resort just to be part of DVC, even if it wasn't your first choice?

For example, years ago, my DH performed at the opening of the the Disney Institute(now SSR). He was in the Army Band of West Point, NY and had an assignment to play under Morton Gould at the openning week-end in the theatre at the DI. I couldn't let him go to WDW without me and DD age 4!!! So we booked a ressie for the WL(which was relatively new at that time). I really didn't like the WL at the time. I thought it was too dark and the rooms too small.

Years later, and many trips to WDW since, I convinced DH to buy into DVC. He did it for me as a 25th anniversary gift. Guess where we bought? VWL!!!!! I now LOVE it! As a matter of fact, I've just decorated our basement rec-room in the VWL style!

I am sooo happy with our purchase that I can't believe I didn't like the Lodge at one time!!!

I am "hoping" to grow into our resort!! We bought into the BWV pretty much sight unseen in February. We have never even stayed there! We purchased at that location due to the park proximity and the lower point values for the standard views. However, I was at Disney 3 weeks ago (Stayed at VWL and LOVED it!) and was able to take a look around! I liked the BWV a great deal and think I can grow into it!!!!

We have definitely grown into WDW and in the course of this, have also grown into DVC.
We have been going to WDW since the late 70s and first our "growth", was that our number of WDW trips grew.
During the early years, we at first stayed off site, but once the kids came, we always stayed in FW in a trailer (they have since been replaced with the FW cabins). Since the kids were literally babies and there only being MK & Epcot at that time; this location was wonderful for us.
Then one trip we decided to break up a trip to FW with the last 4 days at a moderate resort--Dixie Landings, now known as POR. By this point, the kids were older and the need for naps, cooking meals, etc was no longer needed. Well, we absolutely feel in love with Dixie Landings. There was so much more going on! With the great pool and slide, arcade, lounge, dining options etc.-- we were all in our glory. Sadly we had outgrown FW; although we still loved FW, we realized that other resorts had more to offer for our vacation needs/wants.
However we did miss the additional space the FW trailer/cabin provided; so we began researching DVC. At that point, what was available through DVC, was not for us.
So we continued to happily stay at the moderate resorts.
Then we got a great AP rate on YC and we stayed there. Well we very, very quickly grew into the deluxe resort mode, especially the Epcot deluxe resort mode! We were all now, really in our glory! We very happily tried out many of the deluxe resorts and were even more so in our glory and were just lovin our WDW vacations.
Then DVC announced plans for an Epcot resort! We were interested observers but still continued to happily stay at the WDW deluxe resorts, that we had now grown into.
Well, the first time we actually saw BWV after it was fully opened to the public---we were wowed. We were beyond being in our glory--we were in heaven!
Within days we were proud DVC members! Once again, we had grown to a different phase of WDW vacations. We have continued to add on DVC pts and we have enjoyed every single pt to the fullest, from each of our latest WDW "growth".
Yep, I can definitely say we are a family that has grown into WDW and then subsequently grew into DVC!

WL rooms are too small for a deluxe, but the WLV are much larger giving you room for growth! Maybe that explains it.

When we bought, our only choice was BWV. We really weren't crazy about it but knew we could stay at the other DVC resorts. I didn't know about this board then and the ability to buy resale.

Well we just love our "home" now and are so glad we own at BWV. We have stayed at other and loved each one for different reasons but BWV is our home!

We bought BW, although our first choice would have probably been VWL. And we will grow into it. VWL was our first choice due to the theming and decor - and the proximity to MK - our kids were 2 and 3 when we first bought.

Our kids are almost 5 and 6 already. In just a few years they will appreciate having MGM so close and will have outgrown the MK. A few years after that, DH and I will spend more time in Epcot than we have.
