OK I have a new one for you.

Has anyone flown into Miami and driven up to either Port Canaveral or Orlando?

I'm asking as there are some reward seats available for Maimi on the dates we want to fly so I was thinking of buying 2 PE seats and upgrading instead of buying UC seats outright.

I could even fly in a day or two earlier so we could see Miami.

Thoughts?

lots of people have flown into miami and then driven up to orlando....
i've seen many posts about it...i'll see if i can find one...

That's a really polite way of saying "use the search feature." :)

Thanks.

Done the math and we'll save around £1100. A no brainer if you ask me.

no no...i really meant i'd try to find some of the posts i've seen..

here's one:

:)
I wasn't being sarcastic, I was honestly thanking you, should have thought of searching. I did a search and found a few myself.

It looks like they have the better entertainment system on the flight and the drive along the 27 goes through a bit of the everglades which is a winner for me. So this looks like a done deal.

Assuming we like it, every time we get enough points for an upgrade Miami will be the route we'll take.

Slot better entertainment, we flew back this way in 2008 and loved the Ife, it's normally an airbus not a 747

We are flying into Miami this year for the first time and are really looking forward to the drive up as we get to see some more of Florida( not going up the intersate) , to be honest this was the only way we could aford to go as the prices where so much cheaper and I managed to get M+M flights and with going into miami I even got husband to agree to gone for a extra few days :cool1:

We've flown into and out of Miami a few times, we've never driven straight to Orlando off the flight and don't think we ever will as it a bit of a trek and wouldn't want to be under pressure to drive if we were tired, I know plenty of people on here have done it though.

Once we got in about 2 hours late and then 2 hours in immigration and an hour in the car rental, we were shattered and no way could of driven up to Orlando.

We have stayed in Miami and Fort Lauderdale for a few days after arriving and wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Ok, we took the plunge and booked it.

Flying Upper Class from Heathrow to Miami on the 1st of Dec, and returning on the 17th of Dec.

Staying at SSR from the 1st to the 11th (my partner is sure she can drive straight there, given we're flying in comfy UC seats)

Then staying at OKW from the 15th to the 17th.

And the gap in the middle is for the DCL cruise I'm about to book. :)

Yay! We're finally booked!

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

We flew into Miami last August as it saved the three of us over £1,000 and we drove straight up to Orlando after landing.

The drive took just under 4 hours using the Florida Turnpike. Tolls were around $16 each way.

We are doing this in Oct, how did you find the drive after the long flight?
I'm not looking forward to it but with a few coffee stops I should be alright.

Just spotted earl of sandwich and dunkin donuts at a couple of the service stations on the way up the Turnpike so I'm a very happy bunny.:goodvibes

It wasn't that bad. Although we were delayed by 2 hours which meant we didn't land until around 4:30pm instead of 2:30pm, by the time we had cleared immigration, collected our bags, bussed over to the car rental centre and sorted out our car, the rush hour was past it's worst so not too bad a drive from the airport to the Turnpike.

As above, had a coffee at the airport before leaving, then a bite to eat and another coffee about half-way (Fort Pierce service plaza I think) and arrived at the Royal pacific around 9:45pm.

TBH, it was far better than having to drive back to the North-West from Heathrow!!

We prefer to find a hotel near the airport for the first night and pick up the hire car the next morning. This way we can enjoy more of the 'hospitality' on the flight over without having to worry about being over the limit.
If you plan on using the Turnpike, I believe that they no longer accept cash at the tollbooths, so you will have to make other arrangements to pay the tolls.
